Islanders are no-shows on TV for preseason
I did an item in my Friday newspaper column about the Islanders' radio situation, which involves a station with a potentially problematic signal reach.
Speaking of the Isles, I have heard from a few fans frustrated by the lack of preseason games on TV, compared to the bounty of Rangers exhibitions. Fair point.
I will do a better job of complaining about this to Mr. Dolan next year during our weekly offseason lunches to discuss TV strategy. (I'm just kidding. I've never met Mr. Dolan. I did sit two suites over from him at the Prudential Center for a Rangers-Devils playoff game last season. )
Speaking of the Islanders, former p.r. honcho and now blogger Chris Botta and Don La Greca will co-host a weekly show on 1050 ESPN called “New York Hockey This Week,” the only regular hockey show on local terrestrial radio.
It usually will be heard on Saturdays before Rangers pre-games. This week it will be on from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. in advance of the opener in Prague.
Botta said the show will feature the old “NHL2Nite” theme song from ESPN2!

That's because the Islanders are a non-entity when it comes to NY sports.
Islander fans should be kissing Dolan's butt. If it wasn't for the redunkulous money MSG Networks is paying them for the TV rights they would have moved a long time ago.
Yeah, Dolan should put Islander preseason games on so no one will watch and he can lose more money on his deal with the isles.
Stop whining Islander fans.
Yikes! No love for the Isles here. Tough crowd.
Should Islander fans be greatful that Dolan has also blocked internet streaming of pre-season games - something that wouldn't cost him a red cent since the Isles would fund it?
What are Jimmy and Chucky so afraid of in enabling the Isles to make pre-season games available?
No one should be kissing the butts of any Dolans. These people have screwed the people of Long Island for way too many years with substandard service. Do you Ranger fans have any recollection of the years that Ranger games were not available on any Cablevision systems --- prior to the time when Dolan decided that if you can't beat them...buy them?
FYI the Devils GM gets a lot more out of the Dolans than the Isles - like pre-game shows and one pre-season telecast on MSG that had Emrick and Resch on as the main announcers - anyway take a look at the pre-season.
Isles have their training camp in friggin' Moncton, New Brunswick, Canada! And many of their exhibition games are in the Canadian Maritimes for corn's sake! Way to really connect with the New York fan base! Even Canadian sports networks could care less!
Since hockey in NY all revolves around the Rangers ...
If the Rangers didn't head to Europe there would have been at least one maybe 2 Isles-Rangers preseason games [Garden/Mausoleum] on tv.
Isles - next year save a whole lot of Charlie's bucks. Have training camp at home, like the other 2 NY area clubs. Open the Coliseum up for more pre-season stuff. Connect with the New York fan base.
