Francesa, Jones, Carlin talk Yanks, Rutgers, McCain

246405.jpgWell, what the heck, why not go stomping through a minefield in work boots . . .

What did you think of the Mike Francesa, Chris Carlin, Kim Jones ensemble on WFAN today? I'll reserve my observations for later in the week to avoid tainting your opinions.

Today was better then Mike solo or with Ed. Kim Jones is too in bed with the Yankees to be any good. I would have loved her insight on the Yankee's locker room and Girardi. I heard nothing out of her. During the Heyman spot Mike kept trying to get something out of her and she gave nothing. Other then that I found the Rutgers debate entertaining.

It's tough with 3 people. One is always interrupting the other. Hopefully tomorrow they can work on their timing. Although the show was a lot more fresh today than it has been since Dog left.

boring.old hat. mike needs a new dog, fooch the pooch would fit nicely.

didn't hear today, but day two of eddie coleman was much better than day one or mike by himself

Everyone talking over each other was so annoying...Way to forced with the Rutgers talk. So predictable...Mike is just not the same without Dog. Don't think anything can help him...

Would rank the following shows right now:
1. Maddog
2. TMKS
3, NFL Radio on Sirius
Lastly Francesa

They need to free up Kim Jones and let her be more of a part of the show. but this is a no brainer. It should be the 3 of them for now on.

I thought it was like a Soap Opera today...with all 3 of them blabbin about how Dog and the boys got into a couple of scuffles on the road at the Superbowl...and how Dog would push Mike over the line when at remotes.....an Kim Jones and her dates....which is not a bad idea...

I dunno...I had Dog on this afternoon....he had a pretty solid baseball spot....it just stinks when he starts talking to guys in Arkansas....

If Mike's show is the "clean-up" slot on the FAN, how come it seems like no body can get out of their contract to come join him???? This business is about money....BUY SOMEONE OUT....a good name will pay for itsself in NO time.....

I think with a little more time this three can work well together. I always thought Carlin and Jones had good chemistry, which Francesa jokingly alluded to. Jones, who I really like, is in a tough spot though when Mike asks her for inside information on the Yankees while working as a YES reporter. Carlin, I think should take over for the immature Roberts.

Mikey needs an opposite to play off of. Coleman, Carlin are one and the same. Coleman did work out fine earlier in the week, though. Carlin? Don't know his appeal, if any, except being a king of low budget regional sports tv.
Jones ... there may be something, there. Don't let the show become an Imus clone ... Imus was great when he had only McCord and McGuirk to play things off of .. those days of the Astoria cave are long gone.

I think there is a fundamental problem with this whole setup- "Francesa on The Fan" makes it a one guy show. How can the audience expect anything from the other members of the show when they are simply footnotes?

That said, I like Kim and Carlin, but three is a crowd. Maybe they could alternate days?

Dear Neil,

Great set up for your thrice-weekly puff piece on Barney Rubble Egosian and Bam Bam Cartoon in the Morning.

How many ways can you push these two losers?

I like Carlin and think he may be good with Mike. He's GREAT with Scheine on Loudmouths (Schein, by the way, would be GREAT with mike and i think could replace dog given the chance).

3-man booths though, just do not work in talk radio. wayyy too much going one and someone is always getting shafted, including the caller. this definitely needs a 2-man show, not 3 and definitely not 1.

coleman is, was and always will be a GREAT guy who never says anything even remotely interesting or controversial. he's a pleasant homey voice to hear and i love him, but he's not good radio, which is why he's been covering the mets for 2 decades....

MadDog unleashed is available today on the Sirius internet player.

Better than Mike solo, but still had the classic "3 man in the booth" problem. It got too confusing sometimes. I don't think it will work because they tend to almost be equals to Mike in the discussions. But to me it did show a glimpse of future shows with Mike when he was discussing locker room celebrations and it eventually went to partying/drinking...he comes off as so false when he claims he doesn't know any current pop culture. He thinks it makes him look above it. He eventually will pick subservients that can make him look smart.

Both should leave Mike to melt away.

It was actually not horrible! I can see some promise for Mike and Kim and Carlin.

I watched part of it on YES today and KIm Jones looked like a deer in the headlights, Carlin fared a bit better. Just stand up to him is all, they dont fight back at all
