Steve Torre signs on as Chris Russo's right-hand man

sirius-xm.jpgTo the surprise of no one in the business, Steve Torre will be joining Chris Russo's new Sirius XM channel, serving as both Chris' update man and program director, an unusual double!

Here is the official word on that, as well as some interesting information on how Sirius/XM plans to blend the sports offerings from both services now that they are merged, via Fang's Bites.

I had a Sirius radio and subscription in the fall of 2005 for review purposes, but I currently am satellite-radio free. So I'm relying on WatchDog Nation to tell me how Chris did on Howard Stern's show Wednesday morning.

A reader e-mailed that Chris announced he made around $2.5 million between his WFAN contract and the YES simulcast.

Yikes! Chris did a get raise from that for his new gig.

Mike Francesa already was making more than Russo at WFAN under his old contract, and got a nice raise in his new contract.

So how much is Mike making now? Still more than Russo makes, meaning speculation he is jealous over Chris' Sirius deal is misguided.

But how much? I have not studied the contract. But let's put it this way: Whatever amount you guessed, it's more than that.

Neil - did you see Mad Dog on Letterman last night? It was terrible, but he did mention a rift that Dave immediately picked up on but Russo let slide.

I missed it. I'm having trouble keeping up with all of Chris' promotional appearances.

neil, you are wrong about norman,he is in the 3,ooo,ooo a year ballpark.

Chris was very open with Howard this morning- very entertaining.

It's unreal what these guys get paid just to talk sports. I don't think Evan Roberts makes that much.

Echoing Mike from Bayside, Mad Dog was at his best today with Howard, but Howard is such a good interviewer, you couldn't expect anything less. Only problem I had with the interview was that Russo was not asked about Imus.

I wonder if there was an agreement not to mention Imus because I can't believe Howard wouldn't try to stir the Minus pot.

Neil, Great coverage by Fang.

Just to add:

Chris has been working 18 hour days.

And - did you see the stock today? They didn't take to kindly to the 'Sirius to Subscribers: Pay More, Please' approach.
