Deb Placey to 'MSG, NY', C.J. Papa to Isles games

deb_islanders.jpgMy brain capacity and newspaper space for Tuesday are being consumed by putting the Mets to bed, so I have to break this particular news right here and right now:

After capably spending most of the millennium as the Isles' pre- and post-game host on MSG Plus, Deb Placey is headed for a co-hosting gig on "MSG, NY."

Her replacement will be C.J. Papa.

Also, game producer Kevin Meininger is bound for an executive job as a senior coordinating producer, and will be replaced in his former role by Mike Santini.

The Isles open Oct. 10 against the Devils on MSG Plus.

I'm pretty sure there will not be any conflicts that night with local squads in the baseball playoffs.

Neil-You should have titled this post "Ladies and Gentlemen I present to you the first post that reeks of Cablevision."

James: Oops. You caught me! I knew I couldn't get something like this past our sharp-eyed readers. As everyone knows, I only write about MSG and MSG Plus now and completely ignore YES and SNY. I am under orders! Oh, wait . . . I spoke to Ron Darling and SNY president Steve Raab today and did an entire column on SNY in Tuesday's paper. Never mind.

Who the heck is Deb Placey? She looks a lot like Deb Kaufman.

C'mon now. 'Ol Neil keeps things fair. He no MushStache.
Since the beisbol season in Gotham is kaput until March, 'is about time the Best Man tended to his corporate cousins ... who do provide us with exciting winter sports, eh?

Placey is Kaufman's married name. She's been married for awhile and had a kid about a year ago. When FSNY was renamed MSG+, she rebranded herself as well and finally switched to the married name.

Neil,

The Hartford Courant has reduced the daily newspaper to the size a menu

Will we them use more of your stuff now as the staff is down to about three people?

How does that work anyway with them using your columns?

Kaufman, Placey, whatever. Deb by any name is hot.

I like Deb, I don't know why she would go to MSG,NY, which she already is on most of the time anyway, and not stay on the Isles Broadcast Team which I think is one of the best in the NHL. I remember seeing CJ Papa at some games and to fill in once in a while, but to make this switch doesn't make any sense.

Lets Go Islanders!

there will not be any conflicts that night with local squads in the baseball playoffs,I hope so.

ALRIGHT CJ Papa!!
He rules at those Islander games!
Was wondering when someone would discover this gem from TV 55 and bring him up in the market- good job MSG!
and best of luck to Deb she will succeed in her new role I am sure!

CJ Poppa is probably the classiest guy I've met in the TV industry. He helped me out a million times where I doubt other sports reporters would.

I'm very happy for him and I'm sure he'll do an awesome job...even if he works for the wrong hockey team!

Neil-The point is not that you don't report on the other networks, you do. People care about Ron Darling and SNY but no one cares about where Deb Kaufman is going and who is the new senior coordinating producer of the Islander games. That's something I couldn't imagine you writing about before the MSG affiliation. Oh and defensive much? And if you get a free second I've been dying to know who does Chico Resch's makeup? Thanks.

To the other Richie not from Lynbrook who is wondering why Deb switched jobs--she probably wants to be off the road to stay home most of the time with her kid. Nobody watches Islanders (and most hockey anyway), so why waste the time and energy and take away from your family?

James: Umm . . . Newsday is based on Long Island. News involving the Islanders always is a high priority for us, as it is for many of our readers.

"Nobody watches Islanders (and most hockey anyway), so why waste the time and energy and take away from your family?"

Sandy,
May your next stroll along the beach result in an outbreak of crabs.

The girls down here are clean! No crabs!!

Mr. Best-The Islanders being a "high priority" for you is an interesting way to look at things seeing that you posted about them 6 times from late february to early may which is prime hockey time compared to posting about either mike francesa or chris russo 18 times this month.

James: So . . . I am writing about the Islanders too much because I am a Cablevision shill, or I am not writing about them enough? I'm confused. Which is it?

papa's cool. i like his salt n pepa hair.

Neil-What I am trying to say is that the Garden wanted to get the word out about their dopey MSGNY show and they are using every tenticle to do so (that includes you) and you are deodorizing that fact by hiding behind inconsequential Islander news to accomplish that. Whether I'm right or not-it's been fun.
