Friday comment contest winner

This week's comment contest winner, in a runaway, is Sandy, who responded to my request for Shea Stadium with a shockingly eclectic list of events witnessed there, including Grand Funk Railroad (video above).

I'm assuming it's all accurate and that these things really happened, because you can't make this stuff up.

I saw Grand Funk Railroad and Humble Pie there (total sell out)
I saw Larry Zbyszko vs. Bruno Sammartino there (not a sell out). I saw Pedro Morales vs. Bruno Sammartino there (ditto). I missed Bruno Sammartino vs. Stan Hansen (my bad)--another sellout.
I saw TWO Roller Derby World Championships there--the NY Chiefs with Bill Grohl and Judy Dunn beat the mighty San Francisco Bay Area Bombers with Charlie O'Connell and Joanie "the Big Blonde Amazon" Weston (sellouts 40,000).
I saw Jethro Tull there (sell out almost).
Oh yeah, I saw the Mets win the 1969 World Series, Playoffs, division title there too and I saw the games they played vs. Oakland in the World Series and we gave Mike Andrews a Standing Ovation after he was mistreated by Charlie Finley.

Well the Mets winning the 1969 pennant and playoffs and World Series was just a bad dream. Everything else is true. G.F.R., I believe was 1971. Jethro Tull, with the stage in CF was in 1977 I believe. The wrestling was all over the place two mid-seventies, one 1980 and the Roller Derby with the track sitting on second base was 1971 and 1972, when Roller Derby was at its peak of popularity and only a year away from disappearing forever.

Frontman Joe Strummer's personal boot-leg copy of the event will be released on October 7th.
