Sirius XM finally ready to introduce Russo Tuesday?!

Sirius XM is planning to introduce a "major sports media personality'' Tuesday morning at its Manhattan headquarters.

Hmm. Take a wild guess. Go ahead. I'll wait.

I wasn't aware Adam The Bull left WFAN to join Sirius. He certainly fits the "major" part in more ways than one.

Here's my question...

Who is going to be around to listen to his rants?? I mean there are very few people I know who have sirrus in their homes...they don't stream on the internet....some people may have him in the car but when you're driving around at evening drive time, you also want to hear traffic reports, weather reports, who's pitching tonight.

What a waste.

He may be getting some good money; I suppose that's what it's all about but nobody will be listening

Jeff, Sirius does stream on the internet. It also has round the clock traffic channels for every major city. Sirius and XM together reach 20+ million people... they'll be plenty of people listening. Plus, with no commercials every 10 mins i'm pretty sure there will be enough time to discus pitching match ups on his sports radio show.

When will Sirius and XM finally physically merge?

I have XM and will be mad if I can't listen to Doggie when he starts.

tell us a hint about the source, please?

I just tried to subscribe to Sirius online, didn't work. Then tried to sign up for 3 day free trial for online listening, that worked but said only select talk stations available for internet listening. Couldn't display which ones those were or weren't.

Hey Neil I got a question and thought this is the right place to ask it:

It was clear that Mike having Dog on on Friday broke CBS Radio rules. Clearly it was the right thing to do and I don't think Mike got punished for it after the fact -- they even put the whole thing up on the website.

Later in the day Mike took a call where someone said could you guys call into each other's shows and do the Friday Football picks. Mike's answer was hey..you never know..and it seemed like to me he thought it was a good idea.

What Mike and Chris would actually do is another matter. But legally, from your understanding, could that happen? Could Dog call into Mike's show now or vice versa?

The online Sirius player doesn't have every channel but it does have all the popular ones... there's no doubt they'll add dog's channel.

There is also a premium online player that costs extra each month.. not sure if it has every channel.

Every once in a while Stern calls into the Adam Corolla's radio show and kid chris's old show. It's defiantly legal for dog to call wfan, sirius would love it, but cbs would want lots of cash from sirius for promoting their product.

I don't understand all this. Chris Russo is a moron who knows little about sports, who rants about a lot of things he doesn't have a clue about.

Why would anybody pay to listen to this lunatic?

Neil,
Going to be a nice guy and help lead you to your next column. Why don't you call Stevie Cohen at Sirius and ask him wherever he wanted Russo or not. Apparently the Genius, Mel Karmazin walked into Stevie's office on Friday and told him that Russo to Sirius was a done deal and Stevie said there were better people out there and Russo appealed to just a New York audience. But the deal was done, Sirius people aren't too happy with Mel's pick. By the way, Neil, I am not going to give away the store here, but it might behoove you to check out whether Sirius' NFL partner wants Russo as part of the NFL channel. Guess Mad Dog didn't impress the NFL during his stint with Boomer. Poor, poor Boomer, stuck with the Russos and Cartons of the world.

Peace,

Mike

Stern just announced that Russo to Sirius-XM is official. He will have his own channel "Mad Dog Radio" on both XM and Sirius and his show will air daily from 2-7 pm. I think Stern claimed the show and Mad Dog channel will be launching on September 15th. There was no announcement about how Russo will fill the rest of his programing on his channel. Russo signed a 5 year deal with Sirius-XM for a reported sum of $3 million a year, but I've heard differnt numbers. This really should be a great partnership, satellite radio is clearly the future. I wonder if Russo will change the format of his show now that he's going to be uncensored??

Does this mean Russo will be Obama's running mate?

Talk about stroking your ego. Mad Dog now has whole channel named for him rather then being the 2nd name in a show. Also interesting that he has basically the same time slot. People are wondering how Francessa will fill 5 1/2 hrs. The same could be said about Dog. If he's screaming for 5 hrs every day with less breaks, his voice will give out soon. Also is Dog going to be able to discuss more than just Mets & Yankees all the time. A little Nascar, a little matrial arts perhaps?

Well now the cat is out of the bag; but channel 123 is not one of those Sirrus allows on the internet.

So no more Chris to most of us. What a relief.

hey jeff, it's Sirius. Thanks

Press release out:

First, Jeff says "sirrus" doesn't have online radio now he's our own personal channel guide for it.

His channel isn't on the online player because it does not exist yet.

As for this Micheal who claims to have inside info on Mel Karmazin.. give me a break... all mad dog needs to do is bring in like 10,000 subscribers to make a profit. Who knows how many people he'll draw? probably much more then 10,000.

Who knows if his show will be any good but I bet it'll be better then Mike's. I wonder if he snags any the FAN people to be on the show..

If media executives aren't the most clueless leaders in industry, I have absolutely no idea which executives are. They never learn from past failures and spend money like water. Nobody is going to buy satellite radio to listen to this and even Howard Stern is a non-entity since he left mainstream radio. At least he had a huge following and nationwide presence. I'm just surprised with all their other channels they didn't have a sports channel already. Maybe Dan Patrick is going to do his program on this channel, no one else gets it as far as I know.

Bye Bye Chris. I ain't paying $500 for equipment and a subscription for something I can get for free.

Bad sports talk radio on WFAN is just as good as Bad Sports talk radio on Sirius.
