Newsday sports blogs roll to record July numbers

chart_going_up.jpgThe July page views are in, and what can I say but thank you again to WatchDog Nation for your ridonkulous loyalty.

Even though I was on vacation for the first 13 days, we shattered the WatchDog record set in June by 20 percent.

That was good for second among Newsday sports blogs, surpassed only by a monster month for the Rangers blog - manned by my able sports media critic predecessor, Steve Zipay.

Five other blogs set monthly marks: Knicks, MLB, Final Score, NBA and fishing.

Eight of the top 10 Newsday blogs overall were sports blogs. (I hope Mr. Dolan is taking notes on this.)

No doubt my numbers were helped by periodic attempts to update the status of "Mike and the Mad Dog," even though I have had little new to report in recent weeks.

I promised readers I'd stop blogging about it until something concrete happens. Still not sure exactly when it will, but based on everything I have heard over the past six weeks, including in the past week . . . it will.

Going to write my Sunday newspaper column now. Enjoy "Is Colon Detox Hype?" on MSG at 4:30 a.m. Saturday.

Well, maybe "enjoy" isn't the right word. But it sounds educational.

Neil, how about Newsday letting us see the numbers? They like to dig into other people's business but then hold out with their own readers. When can we expect see those monthly numbers?

Releasing them is fine with me. As soon as I get permission, I will do so. Until then . . . no!

We need a FOIL law for newspapers. They are very good at utilizing it themselves to get information they desire.

Let's push for a FOIL law for newspapers. They are great at utilizing it to obtain government documents, etc., and we need it to get at those monthly blog numbers. Who will lead the crusade?
