Newsday scribes out in force to cover Brett Favre for you

namath_rams_3x.jpgNice, quiet morning so far. No word of any Hall of Fame jocks headed to New York via trade, so it's all good.

Thursday was different. Here is a story I wrote about the marketing/business impact of the Jets acquiring Brett Favre. Here is a story I wrote about the adventures of Fox's Jay Glazer en route to breaking the story. Here is a story I wrote about the TV implications.

Here is a bunch of other important stuff written by Glauber, Boland, et al.

More to come in the Saturday and Sunday newspapers, I'm sure!

The fan I quoted in my marketing story, Chris Jones of Manhasset, compared the Favre deal to the Mets signing Johan Santana, in that both franchises need positive pub as they ask fans to swallow massive ticket and/or PSL costs associated with new stadiums.

Interesting, but it only goes so far. Key difference: Santana will pitch in Citi Field in 2009. Favre is a long shot to pitch in Your Name Here For Big Bucks Stadium in 2010.

How did the J-E-T-S manage to get a Favre jersey ready for him and to put on sale on the website so soon? Do they ask Kathie Lee Gifford to send them some help? I'll bet the J-E-T-S are helping they hadn't announced their "fan-Friendly" PSL extortion fees yet. Woody Johnnson must have doubled them.
Neil, is there any chance you can put a story on the IRL's new TV contract for 2009- 5 races (including Indy 500) on ABC and the other 13 on Versus. That's right, Danica Patrick (photos of her are as welcomed as Erin Andrews) will now have hissy fits and broken radios (amazing how often radios get broken in auto racing, especially when the team is telling the driver to do something they don't want to) on the same network as the NHL, Tour de France and Gobblin' Fever. Truly at threat to Bristol. Any reason why a network dedicated to racing like SPEED didn't pick the series up?

Dude, I thought as an NY sportswriter I get to ignore that stuff. But for you, sir, I will do it later today.

http://www.BroadwayBrettsJets.com/ was up quickly after the Jets Web site crashed offering the $80 Favre Jets Jersey along with the $240 Game Jersey...

its like the mets getting Pedro, not Santana
