Giants considered Kimberly Jones for radio gig

jones_kimberly.jpgKimberly Jones of the YES Network was very high on the Giants' wish list to replace Chris Carlin as host of its pre- and post-game radio shows this season before the team (which produces its own games on WFAN) settled on Russ Salzberg.

Interesting. Jones would have been a nice addition to the radio squad, but it seems there was a bit of a scheduling problem.

Presumably something about a baseball team she covers that (used to) play deep into October every year, which would involve a significant chunk of the football season.

Maybe the Yanks will get that far again, now that Manny isn't being Manny around here anymore.

Oh, she's horrible. Thankfully she didnt make it. I dont watch too many Yankee broadcasts but whenever I've heard her on the FAN, she's a gushing mess. Her interview with Carlin and John Mara was embarrassing to listen to.

I found it interesting that Jones/Carlin was tougher on Mr. Mara than Carton had been earlier that day. They asked all of the necessary questions while conveying fans' frustration.

I don't know about the Mara interview but I saw her interview with Kyle Farnsworth and it amazes me that she has gone this far without knowing how to ask a question. Who, What, When, Why, Where and How are pretty basic, will someone at YES please tell her to stop asking Yes and No questions, she gets nothing out of the people she is interviewing.

How does kim jones not have a regular slot on the fan. Give her and Carlin the midday. That has to have been discussed right?

Dead air would be better than Russ Salzberg...just sayin

neil, you are just to friendly with subjects on your beat, you should recuse yourself when that fine line appears.(see no critique of bob papas awful radio call on the tyree play)

I think Layden's story on the play in SI indicated Tyree briefly was wide open.

I agree that the friendships I made in the business over 25 years put me in an awkward spot in my new job, but if I never wrote about my sportswriter friends I wouldn't be left with many people to write about, at least in the NY market.

neil.bob called tryee WIDE OPEN downfield, maybe if the giants had lost it would have been an issue in the media sports beat.(locally)

I felt like Carlin was asking the tough questions; KJ seemed to be apologizing for every question she asked and the rest of the time was stretching the limits of necessity when she was praising Mara for coming on. I dont have a tape to point to specific examples. I just know that it was the feeling I had listening to it.

And, I cant believe I'm typing this, RomanWarHelmet is right, Russ stinks. I wish they could have bought in someone else from the FAN, cant think of who though right now

Neil,

If I weren't such a misogynist pig interested in helping out my friends -- shout out to Mrs. Roberts! -- I'd really consider giving Kimmy a job.

As it stands, you and I have the same policy -- you know, let sexism, racism, misogyny, ethnic hatred reign, in the hopes that it may prosper!! -- with respect to these things.

That's, in part, why so many people visit your site and yet nobody really cares what you say.

You're a flake, a fraud, a hoax. In so many ways, I just can't believe you're on the FAN.

Keep hating.

Oh, and talking about yourself. That fills up space and nobody cares.

Sincerely.

Mark

I think Mark needs to chill out a little bit. Neil is doing his job and he does it fine. I read his column all the time and I find it interesting because it goes a lil deeper than the usual sports BS. It's his point of view. Do you have a column Mark? Maybe you should get a blog and vent. Keep writing good stuff Neil-Eric

It should be Paul Dottino.
