George Carlin hosts 'SNL' again tonight

10_75.gifHere are two things that have nothing to do with sports, but I'm on vacation so I'm allowed to write about whatever I want:

1. NBC is replaying the debut episode of "Saturday Night Live" from Oct. 11, 1975, tonight, in honor of the late George Carlin, who hosted. (Bonus WatchDog kudos to the first person who can say what is factually incorrect in the previous sentence.)

2. I know there is a separate category for animated best picture these days, but I saw "Wall-E" today and it should be a candidate for THE Best Picture of 2008.

Thanks for your patience with non-sports matters.

I thought it was first known as "NBC's Saturday Night", Neil.

Don't you love Wikipedia Joe

Because Howard Cosell had a variety show called "Saturday Night Live". In which America saw the TV debut of the Bay City Rollers, Alex Karras played guitar with the Eagles and America got its nightly hour fix of Charo on TV. As Johnny Carson said, it was the show where Jimmy Connors sang and Frank Sinatra didn't.

Good job, Joe. We have a winner! And thanks to Jim Clark for explaining the details to WatchDog's worldwide audience.

I watched George Carlin live on Oct. 11, 1975, AND the Bay City Rollers on Howard. I'm freakin' old.

I forgot to mention Alex Karras wore a caveman's outfit with a bone through his nose and the Eagles referred to themselves as the Alex Karras Blues Band. This was at the time when Karras was an analyst on Monday Night Football. Referring to Otis Sistrunk of the Oakland Raiders (who had a shaven head, a rarity 30 years ago) as being a graduate of the University of Mars was Karras most famous line.
I preferred the once a monthly show that substituted for SNL "Weekend with Lloyd Dobyns". As for "SNL" I echo what umpire Shag Crawford told his son when he became an umpire "At its best, it wasn't very good".

You should have been at the Coliseum that night instead.

Bryan Trottier had three goals and two assists, in his first home game as an Islander.

He'd go on to torment you for the next decade-and-a-half (or so). :)

I don't care who you are.....that comment by Eric is choice stuff.

And gets my nod for Monthly Comment Contest Winner.

You get Watchdog's Lapdog kudos Eric!!!!!

Neil, I agree with you, "WALL-E" was excellent.
