Barry Melrose officially gone from ESPN, off to Tampa

Barry Melrose officially has become the Lightning coach.

Who might replace him as ESPN's lead hockey analyst? Hmm. How about Mike Milbury?

I suppose I should ask NBC if that's even contractually possible, but I have no reporting juice left. It's all been used up on Francesa and Russo.

Yo, NBC, is this even contractually possible?

(UPDATE: Turns out this is contractually impossible. Never mind.)

So who shall be ESPN's token hockey analyst now? Roenick still wants to play. Niedermayer may hang it up by Disney doesn't own the Ducks any longer. Chris Chelios? Ken Daneyko? John Davidson can play the Showalter role and still have a job with an NHL organization while still being a part-time TV analyst.

Milbury?/ ESPN appears to have 100% given up forecer on Hockey

How about Melrose's Stanley Cup Finals and suit counterpart? As long as ESPN does do Saturdays, they'll be no CBC conflict.

HockeyBob, you're talking about Don Cherry. How about Milbury on ESPN and Cherry on NBC.

Neil- no time for Hockey in late June. Get back to Mike and Chris......you started this uproar, and you need to keep going until it's resolved.

Hire the loser of the Mike Francesa vs Chris Russo war. Neither knows anything about hockey but that never stopped ESPN from hiring Peter Gammons on baseball, Mike Lupica on Sports Reporters or Greenberg and Golic on anything.

Jim, Peter Gammons is in the Baseball Hall of Fame for his merits when he was a reporter for the Boston Globe along with Sports Illustrated. To put him with those trio of losers (All with the name Mike), you made a serious mistake. Him and Chris Singelton are the only tolerable people on BBTN.
