On Jagr and the cap

We're told Jagr's people and the Rangers are still talking; one executive (and also a fellow journalist) told me that contrary to TSN's assessment, performance bonuses are allowed. That lack of a CBA provision is not pertinent.

I will be absolutely SHOCKED if Sather is able to sign both Jagr and Sundin while also improving the defense. I just don't see it happening.

As an escape from boredom I sat down and came up with what I think would be a realistic and cup contending starting line-up for opening night. I'm not saying it's perfect but I think it's pretty close. And if you disagree or see someone fitting in somewhere else, then please do so in some manner other than calling me an idiot or moron. Let me know why you don't like the player or line etc. Here we go...

Avery Gomez Cheechoo

Dawes Drury Ryder

Korpikowski Dubinsky Callahan

Sjostrom Betts Orr (or a Hartford player here)

Hainsey Staal

Mara Orpik

Tyutin Girardi

Lundqvist
Valiquette (Wikiimin or other)

Using rough #'s this line-up came in at $53+ Million. Under the cap with room to wiggle.

Cheechoo comes via trade as San Jose signs both Cambell and Hossa and therefor can't afford Cheechoo. We trade Prucha, Hollweg and any # of picks or prospects to get Cheechoo and some unknown prospect. Prucha is great but he's lost in our line-up. Hollweg is a California kid who Renney loves but needs a new start and sending him to Cali makes Renney feel better about the whole thing.

So what do you think? And before someone says it first....I know this is meaningless as we have no idea what the Rangers have planned or can actually pull-off.

No UFA's. Tank the season and get the 1st round pick next year.

We've tried everything else and it hasn't worked so why not try this? What do we have to lose considering the past.

Better to suck a lot and get picks that can put you over the top or suck a little and remain mediocre which has been the Sather philosophy.

hes my move sign mike green to an offer sheet hes a rfa. 5 yrs 27.5 mil

oh god Lenny, shut up

just wanted to let everyone know to put to rest some of the Avery speculation... the fourth period just reported that the Rangers are still among the top of Avery's list.

Lenny,

Love the'tank it' idea, too. Only problem, could Hank survive? Lots of losses, lowered numbers and no Vezina nom might mess with his head. Dude is kinda sensitive it seems.

Green looking for big raise

"If Green goes unsigned by tomorrow, there is a chance another team may convince him to sign an offer sheet."

Blurt, can always alternate Hank with the new backup goalie whoever it is.

Too bad Dude doesn't get it. He'll stay with indefinite mediocrity and never see another Ranger cup with that philosophy.

Thank goodness Dude is not our GM, what a joke of a lineup. If Dude had his way we would sign every garbage UFA and their grandmother.

And he is a big Betts guy. He thinks our PK will be 0% without Betts.

Hey Bob please remember it was Gretzky's grandma who taught him to play hockey so the philosophy of signing grandmas may not be a bad one lol

oh yeah, I'll never get it blah, blah, blah

Lenny, please, as if either one of our "philosophies" have absolutely any bearing on waht the Rangers actually will do.

There is no way the Rangers will "tank" it.

You know it, I know it, everyone knows it, so when you think about it, it's really a stupid thing to suggest and a waste of time to go putting on every Ranger board just so you can look cool and have people like blurt go, "oh yeah, Lenny, great idea"

Blurt is Lenny
Lenny is a lair.
Lenny is an old man (not really) that is bitter and lost is his tiny old little head.
Shouldn't you be looking for a job "old" retard.

it works, try it :)

Only because he wants to be close to Vogue and the fashion scene. Don't re-sign him, he got mental and health issues, is expensive and small.

Bob's got mental and health issues, is inexpensive and small.

You trolls are all Islander fans so there's no reason for you to want the Rangers to succeed. Using different alias's each time you post is cowardly but from the tone of your posts it's clearly understandable that you are.

Whoever pretended he was Vince beware, Vinny is a guy you don't want to fool around with. He just might take it to Steve and get you banned. No matter what alias you use, your IP address really shows who you are.

Please do Vinny the internet tough guy and his cronie little puke lover Lenny.
This blog stinks because of you and Bob.

OH, JESUS... Please don't kick me off bluenotes. PLEASE!!!!
Please don't.
ahahahahahah!

Who wants the Rangers to succeed?
This guy is crazy!

Slick,

LOL

hey, was I just accused of being an Islanders fan?

Dude,
I thnk everyone has just been accused of being a Islanders Fan. Everyone except Bob and that want to be old fart.
Sing this out load...
"I'm a troll, I'm a troll... "
I wonder why I come here sometimes.

Bob McKenzie/TSN is/are correct, you and your contacts are wrong -- though, to be fair to your contacts, it may be your fault as well depending on what you asked them exactly...

first, the McKenzie article in NO WAY states there won't be Bonuses allowed... the article is about how those bonuses would be accounted for in the salary cap... did you even read the article you're commenting on?...

second, McKenzie is correct, there will be no 7.5% Bonus Cushion this coming season -- unless, maybe, the NHLPA agrees before the season to NOT re-open the CBA in 2009...
