Holy Citicorp! The bar has been raised...
It's $31.5 mil for six, oops seven years, from Tampa for Pens' winger Ryan Malone...reportedly $7 and $8 million the next two years, then the number drops...Liles, the Avalanche defenseman who had an average season, gets $4 million to stick around.
Brian Campbell, Brian Rolston & Co. will be going to the bank...

actually, after thinking it over, if Sundin is willing to sign 1 year deal he would be the best forward option out there, including your favorite Jagr and Hossa.
A big offensive center, better defensively than Jagr thats for sure, and definitely better leadership. It really forces the rangers to play Drury on the wing where he belongs and forces them to dump garbage Betts to make room for Moore or Anisimov.
Also very glad that Liles is gone, I don't want any undersized defensemen. I wasn't too sold on Malone, his numbers weren't overly impressive considering who he played with.
Oilers made another idiotic trade. Greene and Stoll for Visnovsky when they already got Pitkanen and Souray. Wish we would have gotten Stoll.
We need big bruising D...not Liles...I agree....but more importantly, we need to get Campbell, and I believe Sather will be successful in getting him in a NYR Jersey.
Bob, Stoll is still a restricted free agent so he doesn't have to sign in LA, but why does NY need another 3rd or 4th line center?
Rich, Campbell isn't big OR bruising, and at 8M a year for 6 years, it's an awful investment.
Malone would have been great in NY. Very disappointed he is off the market.

Sanguinetti and Del Zotto will be in NHL very soon, so signing Campbell would be really dumb. Just re-sign Rozsival fo 1 year 4 million. Also Campbell is not very good defensively and is undersized.
Stoll got good size, plays physical and scores, pretty much a power forward which is what we need the most. I think he can be a 2nd line winger, but 3rd line is ok too. I just don't want any more soft and/or undersized players.
Jeff Carter got a 15 million 3 year deal? As an RFA! Flyers GM is a complete idiot. 53 points and only 54 hits in 82 games.
Rangers should have been a little more aggressive and traded for Rolston's rights before Tampa obtained them
I am very glad Rolston is gone. He is not exactly what we needed. I hope we sign nobody except Sundin and Rozsival for 1 year and possibly Commodore or Orpik or Redden. Stay away from anybody who doesn't hit. Maybe Bertuzzi for 1 year, but I have a feeling he is a drunk and is almost done. We got plenty of young guys ready to fill all the holes--Anisimov, Korpikoski, Byers, Sanguinetti, Moore, Parenteau, Potter, etc.
on top of that Prucha, Dawes, Dubinsky, Staal, and Callahan will break out with much better offensive production. And so will Sjostrom if we get rid of Betts and Hollweg and play him with Moore and Byers.
for the last 3 years we've been waiting for defensive help. A PP QB, a crease clearing monster.
Now, not only do we need blueline help, but we'll also need someone to score some goals.
The Rangers are in trouble.
I hope Hossa has the NYR's on his radar.
Bob,
Rolston isn't gone, what are you talking about?
They traded for his rights. Which becomes irrelevant in about 24 hrs when he become an UFA
I don't know how anyone can say Rolston is exactly what we don't need.
He has a booming shot from the PP point, plays all three forward positions, and works his butt off.
Only someone who only looks at the "hits per game" stat sheet would be clueless as to what kind of player Rolston is.
If neither Jagr or Avery are back, you have to wonder what the hell Slats is thinking.
These increasing salaries are getting even more ridiculous than other sports. Why'd we lose a year of hockey only to watch player salaries go crazy again ? The GMs obviously have no self control. In the end, the ones who are going to pay are the fans.... literally, when their teams ticket price tops $50 a ticket again.
Im sure that Ranger ticket prices will increase. They were $40 a ticket for the 300's coming out of the lockout. This year, they were $52.00/each. Next year, Im guessing they go to $56.50 so that I can pay Drury to be a 3rd line center.
Has anyone among the Rangers' brass mentioned to Sather that the Rangers' record is ridiculous good when Avery is in the lineup, and below .500 when Avery is NOT in the lineup??????
Pay the frickin man already, geez
