This is one of the biggest reasons people stopped watching the NHL, the HORRIBLE, officiating. I don't know which refs are worse, the ones in professional wrestling, who never see the guy with the steel chair (obviously done for ammusement) or these BLIND AS A BAT, inconsistent offcials who suck the LIFE OUT OF A GAME. This has been a problem since the lockout. The difference in the major sports is that the refs are consisitent and the fans understand the calls. Colin Cambell do your job.

Backman is garbage.

Worst officiating I've ever seen. Quick whistle on Gomez goal, 10 minute misconducts, missed flying elbow hit on Rozsival, wrong player for a 4 minute penalty, no call on Walker when he grabbed Avery.

Dubinsky, Callahan, Dawes, Prucha, Sjostrom get way too little icetime, while Betts, Straka, Drury, Jagr get way too much.

Officiating was, once again, pretty bad.

backman had a bad game, that was obvious. chalk it up to nerves, and give the guy a chance before y'all rip him a new one.

Also Dawes really is becoming an excellent NHL player. I almost completely gave up on him a year ago, thought he might be too small and one dimensional AHL goal scorer. I have been really impressed by his defensive play, hustle, grit, hockey sense, checking and especially playmaking.

if next season dead weight like Straka, Shanahan, Jagr, and Betts are gone then I think Prucha, Dawes, Dubinsky, Callahan get 30+ goals each once they get proper icetime and PP time. Then again with Renney around that is a pipe dream.

Going to agree with TJ for now chalk Backmans performance last night up to nerves and trying a bit too hard. I guess it works good for Malik now though. All the boo birds can hate on Backman after one game and Malik can slide a bit. lol

Sjostrom looked good last night. Even got a shot at the first line when Avery went to the box. When was the last time you seen a guy on our fourth line go to the net like that (Betts will occasionally). He could have scored, would have been great.

The ice time debate isn't really worth it but, I'll bite. It's a non-factor to me. The guys who averaged more do more.

First off Prucha didn't play so he got no ice time. lol.
Dubinsky, Callahan and Dawes were all 1-2 minutes away from Jagrs 14:42. Sjostrom played 11:27 on the fourth line. 4.5 minutes more then Hollwegs 7 minutes, which is two minutes less than Betts who also kills penalties. Straka and Drury played 18:40 roughly and we all know they kill the penalties. The next highest player being gomez somewhere around 17. So really, they all average out with the exception of a few who play less or more for the obvious reasons.

I can't believe I just wasted 5 minutes looking at ice time really.

The Rangers are11-3-2 since the January 22 Home and Home with Atlanta. 24 points out of possible 32 for in the last month +. Out scoring most opponents very well. Yet some people want to complain about the one or two players that have a rough night. Which happens to every team every night, thats why they play hockey as teams! Some want to call out Renney for the job he has done with this team which is just ludicrous. Best coach here in years and have to give the guy credit this last tinkering with the team has obviously done something. Good job Tom. And some still want the 4th line to be an offensive power house, the kids to play more and the team to call up even more youth.

HORRIBLE OFFICIATING!!! Missed call on Ruutu and bad calls made against Avery for what appeared to be skating backwards to avoid the 'cane from talking to him, not sure how that was a penalty.

You are the worst poster on any blog I have read. You have now twice (at least that I have seen) referred to Straka and Shanny as "soft" & "dead weight". You are clueless!!!! Straka goes 100% each and every shift. Would you lay down in front of a Chara slap shot? Let me answer my own question...no!!!! Shanny is an absolute warrior and has been for 20 years. And I wouldn't mind both these players resigning for another year. I will say that I think Shanny is being giving a bit too much in bonus money, but I am not the GM.

and I love the people already calling for Backman's head because of one game with some bad penalties. I liked his positioning and I liked his first penalty where he cross-checked the 'cane in the face at the blueline. Other teams have done it to us all year (that means you Darien Hatcher!!!) I think it makes the forward think twice when crossing the blueline the next time.

News papers take promotional, press passes and advertising from Football and Baseball with the additional intention of suppressing Hockey coverage; helping to keep fan bases in place. Which is why you wouldn’t see regular hockey news on the cover of a major mag, rag or tab, not unless the news is bigger than the sport. I.E. Champs, Drugs, Lawsuits.
These things happen at the highest of levels.
Government does the same with the news. It’s all controlled and run by someone who chooses what’s good for you to read/watch and what isn’t. Keep the citizens content, hopeful and divided. This way there is less chance of the population being able to unite and rock the boat. That’s one of the first things the Navy taught me in Annapolis.

How about the genius GM who sent Gratton down to hartford and now if he is recalled he would have to go through re entry waivers. That is yet again another brilliant move by a has been gm who knows Orr is hurting and we play the cryers,devils and icelanders within the week. So my guess is he is hoping that they all play like wussies against his team that mainly has wussies on it. But in reality they are chomping at the bit to pound this team just like how carolina was all over hank in net and no one to do anything about it. There are 10 players with 20 points or more. 4 more on the cusp of reaching 20 pts. Out of those 14 players, 5 are farm grown youth.
If the Ranger were to keep up their current pace, there will be possibly 9 players with 30 pts or more.
I might be off here a little, but don’t those kind of numbers show that the team is scoring evenly through the first 3 lines, along with a participating defense?

Who was that in Malik's jersey last night. It does hurt to say it but Malik played well 2 games in a row. He actually threw one hit in both games. It took f@#king long enough! Now lets not break our arms patting him on the back just yet. He's still not a top pair d-man. Staal should be getting those minutes. Actually Boyle should be getting those minutes but I won't go into that now. ; ) I hope they keep it up.

One reason this team looked good vs. the tobacco farmers is that Strudwick, and Mara were not out there, mucking it up. Addition by subtraction can be more upgrading than addition by itself. It not your strengths so much as your weaknesses which determine your fate.

I have to chime in in this one. Vincea, this organization frustrates the sh!t out of me too but reminding everyone every day isn't going to change anything. I agree that there is always room for improvement. This team has weeknesses and I would agree that Renney can be one of them. There is room for criticism of the team and of some of Renney's moves (like over playing the 4th line towards the end of a game), but every single post you guys put up is just negative negative negative negative and on and on. Why do you bother even "rooting" for the rangers? It really seems like you guys are here just to hate the team and coaches and GM etc. Is there anything the team could do to make you guys happy? If we traded for Campbell then I think you would have argued that we needed Hossa...If we got Hossa then you would argue that he will take a position away from Prucha or Byers or Jessiman or some other kid like Sanguinettie (who is in the JR's and therefor can't even be on the team, but facts don't seem to matter much to you guys).

this team is guaranteed to win 82 games a year by at least 37 goals and the cup will be ours for the next 15 years. oh, and the team will be coached by a committee of Vincea, lenny, bob & kocur. But Kocur won't like the way Lenny changes lines and I am positive that Bob will not agree with the draft pick that Vincea chooses for the 3rd line center position. Sound about right??
