The Simon Rules Part II

To clarify, a rule is a rule.

It should stand for all players suspended. Doesn't matter if it's Simon, Hollweg, Lundqvist, Messier or Gretzky. I don't care.

Simon's case just raises the question.

Just one of the quirks of the league, which has its blind spots.

Like not working out a deal for games to be televised on ESPN2.

Yeah, ESPN2.... thats what the NHL was offered after the lockout. ESPN said that hockey would have only been on ESPN2, so instead the NHL took more money to go on a network that some dont even know about (OLN or VS, whatever it is now).

Lets hope this team pulls together. They looked great in the first game against the Devils.

yeah, they did look great against the devils but how bout PHILLY, DETROIT, and THAT COLLAPSE AGAINST THE ISLES. I'd say they look great outscored 16-5 in the last 3 preseason games. EFFIGY, buying cups dont work anymore, you need a mix of good kids you develop yourself with some veterens for leadership. example, the ducks last year. 3 good vets, teemu, pronger, and nieds. the rest were players in their 1st contracts and developed within. who have the rangers developed from within. TURNOVER TYUTIN, PHANTOM PRUCHA, HANK I AM ABOUT TO WALK THE PLANK. sorry but that aint enough. also jagr and gomer have shown nothing yet and were even broken up in the philly game. SHOULDNT HAVE LET NYLANDER GO. JAGR PUBLICLY SAID HE WAS PISSED, and you dont want an already whining baby to whine more. my name is jagr, i am the captain of my team and dont want to take shots in the shootouts, that shows some leadership. you better hope a miraculous gel occurs b/t him and gomer pile otherwise jagr will disappear like he did b4 he left washington. check his stats there.

John,

what the HELL are you blabbing about ? Buying cups ? Name 1 player from the '94 Rangers that they "bought" --

Jagr publicly said he was pissed ? I read otherwise. Id be interested to see if you can provide a link to support your ridiculous claim.

Get back to me when you have a clue, ok.

i know the truth, if you were old enough in 94 every hockey fan in the free world knew thatcup was bought. no salary cap then and if you want the proof check the Elias sports bureau. i will not waste my time on you EFFY to show you a fact i know of already. FACT is their payroll was double of the next highest team. that year you were the NY OILERS, should i run down the list and do your work for you, not really. i will challenge your hockey knowledge any day and i actually played college and WHL hockey from 17-24 until i got a career ending injury. its fans like you that have no clue, take it from someone who used to have a connection to the NHL. i dont know you so i could care less about what you think compared to what i know JUNIOR

does effigy of the forgotten mean the 3 cups prior to 94? are you some freak or something? what kind of name is that?

"you need a mix of good kids you develop yourself with some veterans for leadership"

Wow, actually you just described exactly how the Rangers team will be this year, and many years to come. Anaheim lost their first pre-season game 7-1 and I think things went pretty good for them. I'm not saying the Rangers will win a cup, but why don't you wait till the games are real, and our roster isn't 50% kids who won't make the team this year, to make a conclusion. I love your blog Steve, but these Islander trolls are pretty ugly and annoying.

john is the same guy as ant on the isles blog.

I used to play...SHUT UP! IT DOESN'T MATTER what you used to play and no one believes your lies anyways!

It's funny reading comments of people like john and rag c.Don't worry guys once the regular season starts and the ice girls are in last place we won't see these trolls anywhere near here.

hey cutie,

why so angry? when i said good kids to develop like the ducks, you have no one like they do. they developed mcdonald, perry, penner, getzlaf, etc. all top 2 line players. your developing 3rd and 4th liners. your top 2 lines are

jagr gomer hossa
avery drury shanny straka

none of which you developed and those are the ones you are relying on. betts, callahan, dawes, dubinsky, prucha, orr, and hollweg does not even compare to the ducks drafting and development so you got it backwards, MY POINT PROVEN.

i dont know any of you and if you think i am lying i could care less, i have nothing to show off or prove 2 anyone on here. my only regret is that i could never play the game i love again, and i never said i was going to the NHL. i played college then 2 yrs WHL until i got hurt, i never got drafted so ask your self this. If i were lying wouldnt the story have a happier ending?? or is it that you have jealousy issues and are just a fan who never picked up a stick in your life cutie? you speak in the plural form, "no one believes your lies" you are the only one Bi***ing

MSG#1 the place where sexual harassment occurs and ranger ice girls get harassed by MGT.
CLASSY REAL CLASSY

John, since when are you an expert on the Rangers prospects? These kids are all still fairly young and have played limited amounts of NHL games. How can you judge them based on what little you, we have all seen of them. Getzlaf and Perry have played two full NHL seasons, and just now are starting to come into their own. You are selling short Dubinsky and Callahan, whom by the way are only some of the players that the Rangers have high hopes for. Anisimov, Cherepanov, not to mention Staal, Sauer and DiPietro's punching bag, Montoya. Why don't you wait a little bit before you label these players as the middling kind.

midnight,

that duck core won the cup being together for 2 yrs and a couple of them were rookies last year, thats the difference. i am not selling callahan short at all he will be good but with all the aging vets up front he wont get the time he deserves.

midnight,

heres another team that built great from drafting and getting VERY FAST results, buffalo. losing dru and briere will hurt but they will still be at least a 4 seed when playoffs come b/c they are still loaded

John,
I am not interested in the back and forth or the games. Just a real question for you.

How do you say "you need a mix of good kids you develop yourself with some veterens for leadership"

Then follow it up with the Callahan remark?

Are you saying that the Rangers don't have the right blend?

John,

You are absolutely right about Callahan's diminished role. But he is only 22, 23 when this season ends. He will have his time to show what he has, playing top six minutes eventually. Yes the Rangers top six are all veterans, that were drafted by other teams, but a lot of youth is on the way, whether you believe so or not. Only time will tell if this Rangs youth movement will be a cup core. Don't forget Anaheim's core from last year, consisted of mostly players that weren't even drafted by the Ducks(Selanne, Niedermayer, Pronger, Giguere, Kunitz, Beauchemin) Yes McDonald, Perry and Getzlaf are homegrown, but a strong number of their better players were traded for or signed as a free agent.

John is RAG Contraction, same arsehole, everyone ignore him please.

up in the blues,

i am saying the rangers have the players but i dont think they have chemistry and it is well known that drury is not a locker room guy, avery is a distraction, jagr is not captain material when he is scared to take shootout shots, and when a team sees that from their leader it could mean trouble. should make shanny captain right now and let him run the circus. just like the mid 90's up to the lockout chemistry is gonna be doom

i love it that you think i am this rag contraction guy. i swear on my father's life i am not and i think it is sooooo funny you guys get so mad over this

John,

Its cool and I like the other perspective. I am guessing you are Islanders fan. So, chemistry is learned or grown however you want to say it. To think that the Islanders or the Rangers are anywhere close to Chemistry is off in my eyes. You know this you play hockey or played. So it's going to take time. Drury was rumored on here yesterday to have a cancerous wife that gets problems going in the locker room. Otherwise I have never heard anything about this. After all the guy was the co-captain of the team he came from. Buffalo, so I can't buy that he is that bad in a locker room. Avery is a distraction to the other teams and running his mouth. Rumor has it that Avery took it upon himself this year to head up the team entertainment committee (said in joke but not totally) organizing team dinners and outings for the preseason to get the team together. Jagr is not captain material you are right. We had this discussion before on here. He wears the 'C' yes but, is the furthest thing from captain behind the locker room door. Shanny def is!

I for one don't mind this team starting slow and building all year to get the chemistry going. I also think that preseason needs to be taken with a grain of salt. Henrik has yet to have a steady defensive group in front of him. I think once that is all panned out and final cuts are made this team will look much different.

Not that worried. Bring this season on already!

I really do just hope that you are not RAG CONTRACTION. But, if you are you have stepped it up big time! LOL

were did you all go? your assumption was off. NO RC HERE!!!! gotta go ranjerk bums. until next time

heave ho
rangers blow

blues,

trust me i swore on the people i love, it aint me but i am getting a laugh at the people who think i am, they are obsessed with him. i dont know any of you and have no reason to lie or try to impress anyone on here.

John,
Its all good. The RC guy trolls boards all over the internet spewing garbage. The fact that you actually talk hockey speaks for itself and proves the point.

Yea, now way John the Islander fan is the RC a-hole. He actually talks hockey and seems to know his stuff. Although, we don't like what he's saying, welcome aboard. NHL talk always welcome over the other BS that happens here.

so all it took was a couple of preseason blowouts to get you idiots to stop spamming and ruining the islanders blog?

Oh you mean something like you are doing now, Anon? Hey, whatever makes you sleep better at night, keep thinking like that.

John,

This bullsh!t about buying a cup is just that, its bullsh!t. The Rangers aquired most of the players through TRADES, not free agency. Does this mean that the Isles bought the cup cause they traded for Goring, and Gilles ?? Seriously, I want you to provide me with something that backs up your statement, saying they bought a cup.

My name... well if you dont know, then you probably dont know anything about extreme music, or extreme music on Long Island. Go look it up.

Hey, was I calling you a non-hockey fan or anything ? No, I just dont get this "buying" idea. So, you played junior hockey. Thats cool. I loved playing hockey when I was younger, but I played roller hockey. This isnt about who knows more, its just a discussion, although I am pretty knowledgable about the game.

Regards.

effigy,

i took the minute to look it up. congrads on your accomplishments. i do know quite a bit about music but i do not follow death metal at all, i find it offensive and against my religion. but if you made a lifestyle out of it thats great for you. from your point of view i definately know you probably hate the music i like but thats the beauty of america right? about 1994, the ranger payroll was double of the next team in the nhl. that is why people around the US and CANADA say the rangers bought the cup. If memory serves me right the rangers had a payroll in the 70mil range while the next team was Detroit in the 40mil range. vancouver's was low 30's. that is why PEOPLE say they bought the cup

hollweg proved he is a dirty player on monday.. and that if he gets in a fight he needs help...Simon shouldnt have played but Hollweg is gonna hurt someone this year.

Rangers did buy the cup and every year they buy players.

So we may have a smaller payroll but we have heart.

Let me guess...avery going after DP last year was ok...nope i wish the worse for the rangers and the fans. If one gets hurt i will be out there banging on the ambulance.

bunch of rags

"Rangers did buy the cup"

Ummmmm, no ya arsehole

Did they buy Brian Leetch?
Did they buy Mike Richter?
Did they buy Alex Kovalev?
Did they buy Sergei Zubov?
Did they buy Sergei Nemchinov?

In fact, the Rangers in 1994 had more home grown players on their team than the Islanders did last season, so actually if the Islanders had managed to win the Cup last year (haha) they would have defined the definition of "buying the cup" much more than the 1994 Rangers did.

John, you have to be the bigegst dumbarse that has come around here in a long time.

in 1994 the Rangers payroll was NOT 70 million, not even anywhere close, are you a friggin moron or what?

in 1994 Mark Messier made 2.5 million, Brian Leetch made 1.8 million and Mike Richter made 1 million. The three highest paid Rangers.

Can you please enlightem me how the rest of the team even approached 70 million.

If memory serves me, you are the dumbest blogger I have ever seen!

In 1994, the two highest paid players in the NHL were Mario Lemieux and Wayne Gretzky, both making 3 million a year.

oh yeah, neither one of them were Rangers

I am serious, I wish we could have people take a hockey knowledge test before they are allowed to post on here, getting pretty damn pathetic.

In 1994, the Islanders were paying Pierre Turgeon a contract of 2.35 million, which is 150 K less than the Rangers were paying Mark Messier.

But, of course, the Rangers were the only team that could afford Mark Messier. LOL

Did the Isles draft Pierre Turgeon? Was he home grown?

No

did they trade for him, yes

Did the Rangers trade for Mark Messier?

YES

And, finally, I offer you the final information that will shut these Isle fan trolls up about 1994 once and for all.

This is a link, that indicates the top 25 salaries in the NHL in the 1993-94 season.

I was wrong, actually Lindros and Yzerman made more that season than Gretzky and Mario.

Notice, 2, ONLY 2 MUTHA EFFING Rangers are in the top 25 in salaries of the NHL for the Rangers Stanley Cup winning season.

The Rangers had the 6th and 14th highest overall paid players in the league that season.

http://www.hockeyzoneplus.com/$9394_e.htm

OK, this should put the myth that the Rangers bought the 1994 Cup to bed once and for all.

thank you,

this is your REALITY CHECK

John - sorry about your injury. Hope your brain gets better soon. Try not to emulate MJ and other Islander fans and don't throw anything on the ice during the playoffs (whatever year that might be and if your team is still on Long Island by then). Meanwhile take some meds it might help with the dellusions you're suffering from.

Regards

I don't imagine John will be posting here again.

"1994, the ranger payroll was double of the next team in the nhl. that is why people around the US and CANADA say the rangers bought the cup. If memory serves me right the rangers had a payroll in the 70mil range while the next team was Detroit in the 40mil range. vancouver's was low 30"

I mean, how will he ever be able to show his face on a hockey blog again?

ROTFLMAO

"ROTFLMAO"???

How old are you?

why?

NYR fans: apparently these Islander trolls are all drinking the same "kool-aid". How else can you explain their inane claim that the Rangers have a chemistry problem by adding Drury & Gomez & utter nothing regarding their numerous additions. It appears Guerin, Comrie, Sim, Fedotenko, Sutton, Vasicek & possibly Walter will be in their opening day line-up, but its the Rangers, who added 2 of the top 3 free-agent centers, who they deem as having chemistry problems. Do they make these things up?

FYI- The Isles didn't trade for Gillies, he was drafted. I don't think the Rangers "bought" they cup, they just traded for a lot of the Edmonton Oilers, they didn't win the cup from building from within.

yes they did

Brian Leetch, Mike Richter, Alex Kovalev, Sergei Zubov and Sergei Nemchinov

thank you, have a nice day

I still would like an Islander fan to tell me how the Rangers were the only team in the league that could have afforded Mark Messier, when in the Cup seson, he was making the 6th highest salary in the NHL and the Islanders were paying Pierre Turgeon only 150K less than he was.

Or maybe the actual facts are that most of the NHL thought that Messier was old and finished and the Rangers were the only team willing to take a chance on him, I think that is the most accurate.

Reality Check,

THANK YOU !!!! Doesnt seem like the Rangers bought that cup, does it now. They sure as hell earned it.

John,
Not sure how a certain style of music is against your religion, but whatever floats your boat. You know, there is death metal out there that has nothing to do with religion. Napalm Death is a band that focuses on political and moral issues.
