Thoughts on Prucha....Is this a precursor?

Hmmm.

Prucha made $550,000 last year and apparently said recently that he wanted to come back to the Rangers and wasn't concerned about the money.

So why the huge raise?

Something night be cooking.

Could the Rangers be loading up on salary to move it?

Don't be surprised if Prucha and his $1.6 million are sent somewhere in a trade.....

Rangers still could use a top 4 D, either now or at the trade deadline...

Prucha for Seabrook...

be a lion Glen

an interesting notion.

I wouldn't be so quick to move Prucha though - yes, theoretically Nigel Dawes could step into his spot, but part of the logic behind locking up Gomez and Drury was to build a young core - with Prucha, Avery, Callahan and the two centers the Rangers have almost two full lines set for years.

With Lundqvist hammering out a long term deal and Shanny about to sign, I think Prucha and another forward and a defenseman are headed out of town for a top four defender and some breathing room under the cap. Prucha has been terrific and I'd love to see him come back but we have to get under the cap.

Can you explain that a bit more? If you want to trade Prucha, why wouldn't you sign him to as cheap a contract as you can? Doesn't a lower contract make him more attractive to other teams, rather than a higher one?
(Probably missing something obvious...)

You are correct and it is JOVO!

Confused -

Like the NBA - NHL salaries have to sort of match up for cap purposes.

Peter - is that out there about Jovo or just a rumor?

Prucha is not worth a million dollars. I think you will see the Rangers pursue a trade once restricted free agents win arbitration. Look for them to part ways with Malik, Straka or Prucha. Any word on the Henrik and Avery signings. These two signings are vital to our success.

Prucha is absolutely worth 1.6 million dollars a year.

He works his butt off and puts the puck in the net.

1.6 million is NOT a lot of money.

Jovanovski makes waaaaaaaaaaay too much money and is waaaaaaaaay to brittle, no thank you.

1.6 million is a big number. I tried to count that high once, but I got sleepy. boo!

I like to spin around in circles really really fast. but then i get dizzy and have to stop. boo!

my shoes are dirty. where's my uncle tommy?

Makes no sense to give him a huge contract for trade purposes. Wouldn't you want to give him less so a team sees he's cheap?

Am I missing something?

Jovanovski hasn't played more than 70 games in a season since 01-02, takes too many penalties, is paid way too much, and is getting up there in years.

If the Rangers sign Lundqvist for 6mil or more, have signed Prucha for 1.6mil, and are talking about trading for an over priced Jovo, how can they afford Shanny, Avery, Hossa, and Ozolinsh? This makes no sense.

ozolinsh???????????????....he will not be a ranger...people are talkin about over paying for players. jovocop has to be the most overpaid in hockey..we get him, thats bad news.

ozolinsh has a lot of Zs. my favorite letter is J. yay, J!

Ozolinsh will not be a Ranger next year, he is a UFA, there is no interest.

Just more hockey bloggers with very little knowledge infesting this blog.

uncle Jim, are you saying ozolinsh is an alien? i like the power rangers. i'm the super duper blue power ranger, yay!

uncle TJ loves marshmellows!

dont my team have any fans? where are they all spending their time? are you guys at group therapy again?

It is amazing how people quickly forgot Prucha scored 52 goals in first 2 NHL seasons... In limited ice time, still does not earn enough recognition and respect... Check stats of Detroit's stars Zetterberg and Datsyuk in their first 2 NHL seasons... In arbitration process he could be rewarded close to 2 M/year since he has good enough stats to get in that range. Proo has courage and big heart in small body. He is true Ranger !

I hope they dont trade Prucha. Why trade a young guy who works hard every shift and can score ? If he doesnt play well this year, Slats will probably trade him.

FYI - The guy whos posts as Jagr on here does make me laugh.

Like many of the posters on here already said, common sense dicatates that you don't add salary just to trade it. Prucha scored 52 goals in 2 seasons, the first Ranger in over 15 years to do so. No NHL player avergaing 13 minutes a game or less scored more goals than Prucha. That translates into: If Ryan Kesler of Vancouver is worth 1.9 mil, then yes, Prucha is worth 1.6 million per year.

Sather would be wise to tell Renney to get off Hossa's jock and play Prucha 18-20 minutes a night. Hossa is a bust, any award he gets in arbitration should be walked away from. Let him be a UFA, they don't really even need him.

Also, no way Straka gets moved. Jagr would freak, and we all know they don't make any moves without Jagr's stamp of approval.
