for a day off with the family....
Alan Hahn, fresh off the Knicks beat, slides in to cover practice today.
Looks like the Rangers might face Buffalo, starting up there next week. They had some breakdowns against the Islanders, but won't take the Rangers lightly. Look for my weekly NHL column in Sunday's Newsday and on newsday.com. as well as a story on Jagr and his season.
Also, a clarification on yesterday's report of the Orr/Hollweg two-year contract expensions. Orr’s was for $1.075 million; Hollweg’s was a total of $1.025 million.
Enjoy the weather in the New York area, folks....

I Hope Avery doesnt get suspended for having my dna on his teeth.
Lets Go Rangers
I despise Alan Hahn and his crappy writing.
It doesn't help matters that he's a self-admitted Islanders fan since he could walk, and would take opportunities to get digs in at the Rangers any time he could. Then again, maybe that's just a Newsday pre-requisite for covering that team as Logan proved this year.
I loved your Jagr article Steve. Jagr Rules!
Orr & Hollweg. The commitment to excellence really continues at MSG, huh? And by excellence I mean talentless neanderthals who were born 20 years too late to have a place in this league.
Sabres in 5. Get real people.
Reality Check,
It's because of fans like you that the Rangers signed old, overpaid, over-the-hill all-stars with big names and even bigger egos for all those years, and look where that got us?
I applaud the Rangers for resigning Orr & Hollweg, because those are the kind of 3rd/4th line role players that the Rangers have ignored for the last decade. No they're not as talented as Jagr or Shanahan, but they're solid, hard-hitting skaters that can play defensive hockey, bang around a few guys, and plug the holes in your lineup while the big guns rest on the bench. Orr and Hollweg are by far not the most talented but it's players like them that really complete a hockey team.
LET'S GO RANGERS!!!
WIN!
Well said Jay,
I think it says alot to the fans and the team that those signings were made the other day as we wait for Buffalo.
Reality Check shows with his comment that he has no hocky knowledge what so ever.
But, what do you expect from someone that is a Sabres fan coming hear to talk trash.
Reality Check! The Rangers will get more votes to move on pass the Sabres. Guys like Ortmeyer, Hollweg, Orr and Avery will make the difference this series.
Buffalo is too soft.
Rangers in 6
Jay
You couldn't have pointed out why the sabres will win this series any better. Thank you much. Your right, guys like Orr and Hollweg will plug holes in your lineups while the big guns rest. The only problem? Buffalo doesn't have holes. So why Jagr and Shanahan sit on the bench, the Sabres will keep rolling talented lines at you. This will lead to your undermanned 3rd and 4th lines getting tired and taking penalties, and tough "agitators" like Avery losing their cool. The Rangers are a good team coming in on a high after beating the Thrashers. But Atlanta was overrated and Buffalo just has too much for the Rangers. Looking forward to a good series and a Sabres victory in 6.
