Rob Davison, a defenseman acquired from San Jose before the trade deadline Tuesday, is working on gathering his bearings with his new team. Because the Sharks were in Columbus to play the Blue Jackets Wednesday, Davison was able to catch a flight in time to make it to the Isles' 4-2 loss to Pittsburgh. He arrived as the team was heading onto the ice for the start and was able to jump into the action after a timeout in the first period. He met Mike Comrie during a line shift in the first period and was introduced to many of his new teammates on the bench during the game.
Davison, who played in only 15 games for San Jose this season, said the deal was "absolutely" a welcome move. Given the injury situation to the Isles defensive corps, Davison sees it as a prime opportunity to create some playing time for himself and latch onto a spot in the lineup.
Although he's staying in a hotel in Garden City at the moment, he said he'll look into more permanent digs once things "settle down." Good thing the Sharks were in the midst of a 17-day road trip when the move was made; Davison said he was well-packed and has pretty much everything he needs to subsist for a while.
Bill Guerin assured there would be no hazing to initiate the newcomer, who has set up shop at defenseman Marc-Andre Bergeron's old locker. No lingering awkwardness though, the nameplate was already replaced.
Nolan said it was nice for Davison to be able to jump into the action last night, and imparted the urgency with which he'll need to get acclimated.
"There's no time to get comfortable. I think this is when your hockey instincts take over. We have to have him get used to it right now."

Just got in from a spirited hockey practice ... made a 90 minute mpeg of a bunch of tunes to play in the back ground for the practice and played it over the rink's PA system .. it was awesome.
Started off with Hendrix's Star Spangled Banner ...
.... and finished it off with Europe's "Final Count Down. "
In the middle had some:
Zeppelin "mixed Immigrant Song with Black Dog
Van Halen "Eruption / Ain't talking bout love"
God Smack "Awake"
Fuel "Won't Back Down"
House of Pain "Jump"
Queensryche "Revolution Calling"
Scorpions "Rock You Like a Hurricane
Skid Row "Slave to the Grind"
Motley Crue "Shout at the Devil",
Def Leppard "Rock of Ages / Fooling Mix"
Metallica "Battery"
Drowning Pool "Bodies"
White Zombie "More Human than Human"
Gary Glitter "Hey" ... gotta have that one
Queen "Rock You / Champions" of course
Deep Purple "Smoke on the Water"
... and of course some "Mortal Combat" sound track play.
So now I have a great mpeg to keep our team practices up tempo ... with a few cool down songs in there for good measure.

505 ~ Going to take your recommendation on the book about the Babe .... He to me is still the bench mark to which all athletes are measured in any sport .... As In .... that guy is the "Babe Ruth of .... insert name of sport here".
You gotta make it back up here in the summer after next week's visit ... The house that Ruth Built ... still can't believe they are gonna take it down ... I'll be making 5 pilgrimages this season.
Oh and 505 AKA "The Bambino" ... You'll love this one ... Rob .... the guy on my team that we had play up on our line a couple of games ago .... his # is "3" ... originally he was supposed to be a D'man ... but his backward skating was too slow .. so we brought him up front.
Every sports # I have ever worn was divisible by 3 (Except when I was 15 and my Babe Ruth League manager gave me #7 after his fave player ... Mickey Mantle when I played center field) .... Other than that in baseball and hockey I've been .. 3, 9, 12, 15, 24 (my # now), and the much hated #99 in my men's ASA softball team in the early 90's (my nickname was Gretzky and I hated it) ... but it was better than the name I had before Gretzky became more famous .. (Ron Dugay) ... ughhhh ... I can't believe I brought that up.... put the beer downnn ... I used to be a long hair rocker ... in band too ... so the girls in school that liked hockey usually like the Rags and gave me that nickname even though I was an Isles fan. Go figure.
Enough ... Tolstoy is turning over in his grave... it's a slow hockey day for God's sake.
"Bill Guerin assured there would be no hazing to initiate the newcomer, who has set up shop at defenseman Marc-Andre Bergeron's old locker. No lingering awkwardness though, the nameplate was already replaced."
LOL,
I'm guessing Steady was in the locker room 30 seconds after the trade was announced with his power screwdriver.
Geez 19Isles

KH,
The name plates actually slide out rather easily.
But the image of Guerin ripping them off with his bare hands makes me chuckle a bit.

Ok Project Runway is gonna have to wait...
(Go ahead and laugh, yes I WATCH Project Runway....there's something about seeing Heidi Klum surrounded by "fierce" homosexuals that gives guys my age hope for a potential score with one of the hottest women in the world --Seal be damned. And this year that Jillian Lewis from LI is definitely a cute little number worth rooting for---STRICTLY as a home town fan).
Anyway,

"You gotta make it back up here in the summer after next week's visit ... The house that Ruth Built ... still can't believe they are gonna take it down ... I'll be making 5 pilgrimages this season."
Absolutely.
NOTHING will keep me from paying final respects to that shrine.
I have MANY MANY memories from that place...Saw the Mick hit a ball ( I have the '65 year book picture of it) over the back blackdrop of the old center field--502 feet in 1964. I saw Chambliss' HR to beat KC in the '77.ALCS, I saw all three games against AZ in the 2001 WS (TINO!!!! I ran into Tino at the Marriott Times Square after his HR off of Buttonhole Kim).
First trip will be against CLE in May when I make my annual Allman Bros. Band Pilgrimmage at the Beacon with "da boys" from my old hood.
And in fairness to the Met's fans here, I will also give a proper goodbye to Shea...Many good memories from there as well (My brother and I chanting "drop dead Met's" in lieu of the standard refrain?)..... Saw Nolan Ryan's 1st appearance there (about an inning- I forget the year- 66?, but I have the stub).
Yep, gonna be a few trips to the Apple of My Island this year.
It's good to play king.
I tried posting to the next thread.... but it disappears ... taking along with it my mini-Tolstoy epic .... but here is something else unrealated .... but relate to the posters on this blog.
Curious as to the line combos we'd make come up with from posters on this blog.... we kind of are a team ... with all different personalities and we all bring some color to this board.
I know this much ... just based on his name and his specialty ... netminder39 is our goaltender.
505 #3 is paired up with Steady on defense ... Steady ... you have to be the pivot on the PP (no MAB moves ... please .. lol). 505 is the guy that introduces the opposition's seat of their pants to the ice.... or face to the glass ... depends on his mood for the day.
I'd be upfront with JPinVA .... we'd be doing long cycles of the puck.... and AZS would be on our line crashing the net and finishing off the play with a "resounding up yours" kinda shot.
D-Money, KH, Nick, Upstate, Merrick, Coral Springs, Miggsey, Kevin T, Doc, the mass, Cincy, Brian in VA, Metalchick, Candyman, Isles Bri, Bri on LI, islesfan222, Healy, Isles Fan, claire, nautika, piero, Vukota, Caeser, Nova Scotia, Tony Sac, Brian G, Isle27, Matt and Michael S .. give this blog more depth than even the Isles have with some quality regular posters ... There are even some other good quality posters that I haven't mentioned that make infrequent but relevant posts. Like Bill, and welcome to the jungle more recently.
Guys .. chirp in here and add your line combos for the posters here. Who plays D? .... who is "offensive"? ... my bet is Healy is in goal too. Who did I offend and forget?
I just voted "no on Cheechoo" on your blog Michael S.
(So much for secret ballots in America, eh?)
I am still holding out audacious hope that it was for Higgins/Komisarek and that it COULD happen down the road.

Yeah ... and sooo .. lol ... actually .. I played hardball at the same time in those days that I was in that softball league .... men's sandlot baseball league ... local house ice hockey league ... and men's metro area selects ice hockey league ... managed bands ... in a band .... had a fulltime job ... and went through girlfriends like Chris Simon goes through suspensions. It was a fun time ... and always will be looked back very fondly.

KH, Steady wasn't too late because he went to get his power screwdriver .... Steady was backing in a crane with a wrecking ball to take out MAB's whole locker. However he was quickly restrained by newcomer ... Rob Davison who could be heard yelling " HEY!!!! That's my space dude!!! ... and subdued Steady with a case of Germany's finest brews.
...........................................................................................
505~ Project Runway???
OK .. I'll give you a pass .... if you give me a pass on the Softball .... also ... I once played in a charity softball game with Mickey Mantle in 1984 .... I was an All-Star representative for my baseball team that year ... and since I was in the American League ... I got to play with Mick ... and get my bat, glove and a few baseballs autographed. Mick hit two out of the park.
I threw out .... I think it was Cleon Jones .. former Met player ... at least that is what the manager (some CBS announcer at the time) told me. Another good ole days moment.
.........................................................................................
505 ... you my friend have been to some landmark spectacles... isn't it great to have those memories engrained into your being?
..........................................................................................
I am going to Shea also ... I had some great times there .... Saw my very first MLB game there ... Yankees / Angels double header in 1975 ... Saw my very first NFL game there ... Jets / Browns 1977 ... Saw my Yankees sweep the Mets in recent times in that subway series game ... where they played the day game at Shea and night game at Yankee Stadium .... I confress that I rooted for the Mets against the Redsox in 1986 .... I was at that Bill Buckner game!! Mookie was on my rotissarie team that year.
I Pitched, Played CF on the field @ Shea .... and more importantly I got to play 3rd base at Yankee stadium (My idol was Greg Nettles.. so I was exstatic). I Played hockey on the Brendan Byrne arena ice, the old Philly Spectrum Ice, Old Boston Gadin Ice, Old LA Forum Ice, San Jose Ice, Joe Louis Arena, Cap Center in Landover MD., Pepsi Center Ice and the old Quebec Nordiques' arena Le Colisee de Quebec.
I'd trade all that to play in a game at NVMC .... well... gotta let me keep my game at Yankee Stadium .. but I'll trade in the rest.
505 ~ BTW ... I've met Heide Klum on a few occasions .... Working in a TV studio in the NY area has its perks.
She is not only gorgeous .. but her personality is friggen OUTSTANDING!!! HA ... I said personality .... she is just one of those standout women in TV .... and she digs hockey. Just don't ask her who Uwe Krupp is... LOL!! She wasn't with Seal when I first met her ... not that I had a chance ... she was promoting the Sports Illustrated Swim Suit Edition ... So we were BS'ing about sports ... I told her.... don't you know that models date hockey players .... her response ... you know any? I said .... you're looking at one .... and she laughed and said ... I didn't have enough scars .... I said ... Give me a minute ... I'll take care of that right now ... and got her to bust out laughing .... that really softened her up ... she became extra flirtatious and friendly ... but I pulled a Hilbert and flubbed the shot.
Seriously ... I know I didn't have a chance .... she was being nice and enjoyed the joking and BS ... but aside from being gorgeous ... she truely does have a great personality ... that Seal is one lucky SOB.
Hitting the rack ...
Have long day tomorrow ... plus my own hockey game on an Islander game night .... don't like that much. TiVo'ing the game ... but expect to see some good back and forth posting during the game .... I always like to see commentary here.
Wow 19Isles
Impressive resume..... all the way around.
You rooted for the Mets in 86?
I rooted for rain.
Nettles was a GREAT IDOL to have. He could play D on your hockey team.
And you're killing me with the Mick story...HE WAS/IS my idol.
I am one of those over age 50 guys (now) that bawled the day he died.
In fact I found out about it on a ball field. It was a Sunday morning (that's when we played--MSBL) and one of my teammates (a Yankee fan) came up to me in the dugout and hugged me and told me that he died the night before.
Sick as I am, I patched a Number 7 on the shoulder of my jersey for the rest of the season (still have the jersey--a Braves jersey)
...and CREATED A SHRINE in my office. I have LOTS of expensive Mickey memorabilia.
Gawd, we're sick---but it's a good disease.

Back to your Blog Dream Team.
"505 is the guy that introduces the opposition's seat of their pants to the ice.... or face to the glass ... depends on his mood for the day."
ROFLMAO
My mood?
First of all---Ya got any double runners?
Secondly- Given my participatory athletic background, know that if I have a STICK in my hands, there's gonna be a natural tendency to swing it at moving objects that are waist high.
Finally- When I strike the moving object, it's natural to do what I can to hit it out of the playing surface area. And I'd rather have someone else go chase it down..
So, I'm not sure I'd fit the bill on your squad.....unless it's a Slap Shot kinda deal.
The above kinda sums up my golf game as well.
It sucks. ( I DO carry a baseball bat in my bag-works better than a 9 iron).
But it's still fun to smack a ball that's not moving. And golf balls go further. Oftentimes too far. Especially when there is a fence bordering the course. Golf balls are funny that way when it comes to fences...kinda like a moth attracted to a spotlight..
Sadly, I know I have hit more golfballs over fences in my life than baseballs. What the hell is wrong with that picture?
Thank God for homeowners insurance.
Funny, funny stuff gents,,,,,, I stayed away while the trolls were arounds. Waste of time.
Love the line combos....When I have more time I will add to them...Merrick should be COACH !!! Player ~ Coach that is !!!!

I tell ya, no respect. I feel like Rodney Dangerfield here lol.
I agree with Steady, everyone else going for the final spots has been winning, even Buffalo. We need to rack up points now.
Netminder:
He DID put you in goal ;)
19 Isles
I enjoyed your board team. Pretty astute, I have been playing goalie ever since I was 5 years old (idolized Smith and for some reason I just really liked Glenn Healy's tour with the team).
I sometimes wonder what would happen if this board got together and played a couple games. Would we critique each other as harshly? :)
Hey 19 (I'm surprised that isn't used more given the demographic of this board)
1. Thanks for the reference, but I'm more of a Langevin type "D"... If you haven't gotten that from my cry for Sutton last year, my desire (purely plutonic) for Coburn this trade deadline, and the fact that I was really happy with the acquisition of Davison... The last cycle I was involved in was when I compressed what might have been a close play at second into a make-the-turn single...just so I could say I hit for one... unfortunately it was in bar league softball... 20 years ago
2. I like the fact that you have now partitioned your posts. I can break up my day in accordance with the "------------".
3. If the Isles can't beat ATL I expect to see every song on your iPod listed friday morning. GOD...PLEASE... LEAVE ARMSTRONG'S STICKS IN PITT....
4. I have to admit, I've never seen posts such as yours anywhere else....
"The islanders need to make a statement tonight. Hold on,I have to get the door.....
It was some woman selling cookies for her daughter, man was she hot, and she smiled at me. I think we might of made some kind of connection, but I couldn't dig up a fiver for a box of trefoils.... Hopefully DP will have a strong game and the D will clear the ...oh hell... I bet I have $5 in loose change in my couch..."
The real life candor of dave barry, the loose stream of consciousness of Vonnegut and the drawn out prose of Tolstoy...

Okay... so I'mpaired with 505 on "D"...
JP: Hey check out the Angela Davis on that dude...
505: Yeah, that's why there aren't more nubian hockey players... you can't fit the fro in a helmet.
JP: Slide man... I got the puck...
505: I've got Sicily ol' boy, you wait for Monty in Naples... Steady is in Corsica waiting for the outlet...
oooops
sorry i was speed reading!!!!!
i got hit with the biscuit to many times lol
my SINCERE apologies!!!
Can people just get to their point? 19isles, I don't care what you ate for lunch, what music you listen too, how your practice went, etc.. just make your point about whatever it interests you about the Isles. I don't have time to read books.
Mike S do you have to put your info for your stupid blog on everything? Stop embarassing yourself
Mike
19 Isles may have written novels, but, they're enjoyable, worth while, and ALWAYS about hockey. He's not just an Islanders fan, but a hockey fan. You'll be amazed at how many people actually comment back after his "books."
19 Isles gets most of the credit analyzing the Islanders in depthly, because he has a rich hockey background just from playing the sport.
Very simply.....a lot of people on this board enjoy his work, so all you have to do is skip his if you can't read his book.
So was it just me or did Tambs really make himself noticed against Pitt? And not just on the assist, either. He looked pumped to be back in the lineup, and maybe Nolan's approach has been somewhat successful in making him hungrier at the NHL level. I like what the kid line is doing. All they need to do is calm down a little bit out there and they'll start putting good numbers up, I think. They have the speed and the grit along the boards, but it looks like they're so excited that they just spaz out sometimes when it comes to coordinating and finishing. I think Nielson has really flown under the radar with everyone talking about Comeau and Tambellini. Nielson's in the most important position and I think he's been the best player on the line over the last few games.
Bergy has been the best of the young guns though, imo. He gets better every game, and I loved his quotes after the play where he passed to Park when he should have shot. He's strong on the puck, fast, likes to hit, and he knows where to go when he doesn't have the puck. He reminds me a bit of Ollie Jokinen...obviously he's not nearly as good, and perhaps he never will be, but his style of play is similar, I think. I think he'll finish strong and start putting up some numbers next year.
Anyway, just some positive thoughts on the future. Now, about that first line center thing...
Upstate, I agree...Howie's only valuable comment of the past 6 months was detailing the sit-down between Tambellini and Jack Capuano down in Bridgeport where Capuano basically told Tamby to stop playing it safe. It could very well be that he was trying to do too much and to "prove" he belonged in the NHL, when simply playing your game in an effective way is all the proof you really need. I would still say Comeau is miscast on that line and better suited to play with Comrie and Guerin, but I love what the kids have been bringing to the lineup. Neilsen could eventually develop into an effective 2nd-3rd line playmaking center, and nobody needs me to re-hash my positive feelings toward Comeau and Bergy. Those 2 will be valuable pieces of this organization for a very long time.
Depending on the standings and need, I'd love to see a cameo from Okposo at the end of the year to give him a taste of NHL life and to make sure he's hungry and ready to bring it next year.
As for 19Isles....Maybe we should re-instate the windbag line? I personally love what he writes, but hey.
C'mon Mike,
Lighten up. Call it post trade day blues. Kinda like the day after Christmas, or New Year's Morning.
As we get closer to gametime, posts will get closer to topic.(a little)

What was in your coffee this morning....I am rolling on the floor.
GREAT reference on the Dan of Steel for Cuervo Gold 19 (Fine Colombian?)
ex,
"please don't call the them THE ALLMAN BROTHERS BAND. please. they are not."
uh oh ex, I suspect you are a jilted Betts fan?
Betts was the MAB of the ABB.
The ABB as currently constructed are BETTER than they EVER were (including Duane days). Derek Trucks is gonna be an all time top 5 guitarist before he is done. Haynes is already considered by many a top twenty.
Just my opinion.
Dubie inthe nets tonight boys?
Dubie needs to play today...it's time, and DP is looking run-down.
For the 1st line center argument...just keep chanting the mantra: Stamkos (via trade?) or Wilson....Stamkos or Wilson.....Stamkos or Wilson......

Thanks for telling us who YOU think is a good poster. We don't care....
You guys think you control a web page and try to brag about it. Nobody even knows who you are
Everyone read the KH "scolding" at the end of the previous blog.
I am taping my fingers together, aka biting my tongue.
DAVISON IS MINI-CAIRNS. NUMBER 3 IS NO COINCIDENCE
It's not about who's a good poster, it's about who wears their Blue and Orange heart on their sleeves here and posts when they can about the team and the sport they love. If you don't like it, leave, or skip to the next post. Have you ever looked at the other blogs? How many of them consistently have over 100 posts on off days? Not many. Does 19 Isle write as if he's paid for it? Sure, and if he WAS paid per word he and George Soros would be golfing buddies, but that doesn't mean he shouldn't be posting what he feels. If that were the case, more people would be complaining about the length, or Greg would institute a word limit.
I can't believe anyone would bemoan the fact that passionate Isles fans have a place to get together during a boring workday, pregame, or postgame and talk about the sport they love. Give me a break. Sometimes even I have to skim the blog, as I don't have the time to read the novels, memoirs, and tarot readings, but as someone who loves to glean every morsel of information I can about the Islanders from the mainstream media (which means one article per day (if I'm lucky)) this site allows me to wallow in the splendor of opinion from Isles fans.
Now I get to say my piece about the trade deadline. It happened. I like Davison, and I like the number 3 as well, although I think it should only be worn by Swedes.
And as for the lineup, I think metalchick would make a fine enforcer.
Now that I've said my piece, LET'S GET TWO TONIGHT!!!
p.s. Is Steady the new father cheering his baby in the nursery in the NHL network commercials?
Bri on LI
"Is Steady the new father cheering his baby in the nursery in the NHL network commercials?"
Okay, OFF TOPIC Confession time.
I've been waiting for someone to bring that up.
When my son was born (1989) I left the hospital and went out to the nearest 7/11 and bought about 30 packs of baseball cards. I gleaned every Yankee card (and the bubble gum) from the packs. I then went to Target and found the smallest Yankee jersey and baseball cap I could get my hands on.
I returned to the hospital, went into the nursery, and lined the walls of his bassinet with the Yankee cards, hung the jersey from the railing, and put the cap at the foot of his bassinet.
It was bonding time for the boy.
He IS a Yankee fan today.
When my wife sees that NHL ad today, she looks at me and simply shakes her head.
505, how scary is it that Stamkos is younger than your son?
And I would think Steady is more like the guy in the commercials who screams at Roberto Luongo about when Iginla is going to shoot. Except, until Tuesday, I would imagine it more like:
TED! TEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEED! WHEN MAB IS ON THE ICE AND GETS THE PUCK, HE'S GONNA COUGH IT UP AND CAUSE A GOAL! AND WHENEVER COMRIE COMES WITHIN 50 FEET OF THE NET, EXPECT A TOE DRAG!

You were the very first person of everyone I mentioned. Go back and ready the 3rd paragraph of the following post. Posted by 19 ISLE in NJ 22 | February 27, 2008 23:27
505 ~ I wore my #7 with pride when I played centerfield .. I didn't have the power of the Mick ... never even saw him play since he retired before I was born ... but I knew what he meant ... my uncle and Mom would always talk about him ... I guess the way we are talking about the Isles Core playes of the dynasty days ... the young people rooting for the Isles have to hear us brag about players they never had the opportunity to see.
Also ... regarding the blog dream team ... you don't need to use a hockey stick ... this is purely a virtual team... infact I'm willing to bend the rules and have you skate around with the baseball bat anyway ... may come in useful. This is purely a "Slap Shot" version of a hockey team. More about fun and winning at what we do best.
If anyone is able to listen to the radio feed thru the internet, go to NHL.com and click the link to the NHL Live XM radio show.
Trots, Bossy, Murrow, etc, will be on from 1 p.m. Part of the "Core of the Four" tribute.
Best all.
505 ~ Golf !! Oh God .. I put the clubs away ... Because I could drive the crap out of the ball ... I just had no game within 100 yards of the green. You put balls over the fence ... and I hit them in the drink ... water hazards ... not my fave.
Did anyone see the comments made to Milbury during the trade deadline about trading Luongo. Funny Stuff.
Lets see what we can do tonight..lets get this together b/c Boston and Buffalo have been getting points.
Also, I am alright with the trade deadline but we need to make changes by next year. We have 8 forwards signed for next year and 3 RFAs leaving 1 spot available depending in Nielson stays up along with Tambs.
Here is the breakdown:
Signed:
Comeau
Silly
Guerin
Comrie
Hilbo
Park
Sim
Hunter
RFA
Bergie
Nielson
Tambs
UFA
Tank
Satan ( Yashin wearing 81 this year)
JoVas (only want him back if his job is to greet people when at the arena.)
So we need to make some moves in FA which is known. We also need not sign the UFA's . If we do sign them..we have the same team as this year.
So Nielson will get a 2 way. Tambs will be a one way. Silly may be done for his career not sure.
So Garth could still make a deal in the draft if a team does not get who they want we could end up with another first rounder and we also have 10 picks in this draft.
Healy ~ I liked Heals too ... Like Smitty better ... but Heals had some great Islander moments too.
And yeah .. you're right .. we would critique each other also ... LOL!!! We'd probably have a bench clearing brawl and be throwing a beat down on each other. LOL!
I was thinking about that dream team scenario of posters on here because after catching up with the last few days posts ... I noted how this board is made great by the different opinions and personalities that make up a great part of the contributions posted on here.
If we all felt the same way about everything on here ... it would be boring and pointless to post anything.

JP ~ You should of said ... "Listen .. I don't have $5 right now ... but I'm sure I can find another way to pay you" .... LOL!! I know with my luck however I'd end up washing the woman's Escalade and golden retriever.

Can people just get to their point? 19isles, I don't care what you ate for lunch, what music you listen too, how your practice went, etc.. just make your point about whatever it interests you about the Isles. I don't have time to read books.

Nick,
"And I would think Steady is more like the guy in the commercials who screams at Roberto Luongo"
I WANNA be the coach in the ads giving the pep talks to his players. Those ads are a RIOT!! They are brilliantly written.
Again, in an art imitates life, I had a coach just like that for a team we took to PHX one year for the WS in our Men's League Baseball (and mind you, some of us were OLDER than him) - he knew VERY LITTLE about baseball, we did our best to keep from busting out, ....and he always ended his little spiritualisms with a standard "ok boys, let's roll 'em up, hit the deck runnin!!!"
"I know with my luck however I'd end up washing the woman's Escalade and golden retriever."
GEEZSUS!!!
What the hell is in the air on the East Coast this morning?
JP and Hey 19....YOU'RE KILLING ME!!!!
I have a hard enough time getting any work done thanks to this blog, and now my staff is giving me funny looks as I sit here staring at a screen and laughing away.
Back to Topic....PLEASE!!!
My biggest fear about tonight's game?
Atlanta got PASTED by the Isles last week.
They are gonna come out FLYING.....can our boys weather the storm?

HARUMPH!
Trotts really painted a vivid picture of what it was like back then. His words are inspirational ... He has that never say die attitude ... knows what it is like to "learn" how to win.
He pretty much laid out how a great tandem of linemates works together to make a line click.
He's the reason I have 19 in my name.... now it's time to hear from the Boss .... the 22 in my name.
LOL!!! Bosssss talking about how it is more incredible that 16 people (refering to the core) were able to stand each other for the 4 years....
Sounds like how it gets here sometimes.

ex,
"please don't call the them THE ALLMAN BROTHERS BAND. please. they are not."
uh oh ex, I suspect you are a jilted Betts fan?
Betts was the MAB of the ABB.
The ABB as currently constructed are BETTER than they EVER were (including Duane days). Derek Trucks is gonna be an all time top 5 guitarist before he is done. Haynes is already considered by many a top twenty.
you rank guitar players like they're baseball players, with stats etc. ?
mmm.
Merrick and Others:
I am coming down to the game on Saturday. I believe it is a 2pm start....Just got 2 tickets on ebay.....I will be going early and having lunch at one of the spots inside or at champions with my kid.
Anyone going ??? Let's grab a few coldies before hand!!!!
They better win tonight or I will be REALLY bitter at that game....Probably have to say "ear muffs" to my kid 400 times....For those that are not parents or never saw Old School....that means "put your hands over your ears" b/c daddy is gonna say something bad !!!!
p.s VERY VERY funny posts on this blog stream.
I'll be there now that I bought Isles Bri's tickets....care to meet up afterwards at Doolin's, or would Champions work better?
Finally ... my opinion of the trade deadline moves .. or lack there of.
Well ... as 505 stated ... and I mentioned his quote the other day. You can't be sellers if there are no buyers....
That said ... it has recently come to light that Snow never asked Satan to waive his no trade clause. So basically Snow figured ... he'd ride out Satan for the rest of the season. I can understand his logic ... because who really would take Satan who has been inconsistent this season. With teams so tight in both conferences it is taking a big gamble ... so you figured in a deep draft ... nobody is going to give up their #1 or maybe even #2 pick for an inconsistent rental. So no sale there. I'm glad ... because it also indicates that Snow isn't throwing in the towel on this season. We'll need Satan for the playoffs ... and he loves LI.
Simon to Minn .... Goodluck .... Now his #12 is available to someone else .... O.K. got that? ;)
MAB to SJ ..... another .... Seee Yaaaa!!! Kinda player .. I know the Isles will miss his PP production ... but not going to miss his PP self-destruction.... So all in all ... we got some picks for two players in the fan sin bin ... and basically help cost the Isles games.
We acquired a steady defenseman with toughness and potential. He might prosper under Nolan's guidance ... "might".
My only real critique about nothing really happening at the deadline is that we didn't get anyone to help with a playoff push .... but I asked myself in all honesty ... who would they part with ... without sacrificing the youth. They didn't have enough in the stable to put together any significant package ... and we didn't use any of our cap equity ... which isn't all bad.... we have it for this summer's FA season .... not that it is stocked ... but it gives us some leverage for trades ...
What if someone needs to move a high paid productive player ... to squeeze in an even higher valued more productive player .... we might be able to accomodate a trade to allow that team to nab a player / goaltender that we aren't interested in or don't have a bead on to acquire for ourself. A lot of variables.
For now ... I'll just worry about this season. I can't say I'm disappointed about the lack of big moves... can't draw blood from a stone sometimes. Better off not selling off .. and hope that Snow can retain the UFA's he feels he wants to keep.
Oh, and I agree with Upstate Isles ... I did notice a little more fire in Tamby's belly against the Pens ... now he can feel a bit more confident that he's going to stick ... and he can play his game. I haven't given up on Tamby yet.
I don't know if we are going to see K.O. up here this season. The Isles didn't dump any players for picks ... so it is still kind of tight. Simon gone ... Tamby back .... and Davison slides into the D slot vacated by MAB.
On a downer note .... It's official .. I can't go to Sunday's game at NVMC ... My vacation day request for Sunday has been denied... Our staff is spread to thin while we have crews down in Fl covering spring training. ... $^#@$!*# .. Baseball .... sorry 505. So looks like my brother is taking my other brother to the game now ... he wasn't even born when the Isles were beat in the Finals in 84.. . LOL!!! But then again .... we made that kid sit infront of the TV watching Islander highlights from the dynasty years ... We had to take extreme action in 1996 the day we saw him with a #11 Messier shirt that he got at a friend's birthday party that was Ranger themed.... we saved him ... no worries.
Nick/Steady/Others
i ll be at the game as well on Saturday. I am getting there at 12pm for the season tix holder thing. I am down to go to champion or doolans.
Name a spot and a time.
I saw this comment on the thread to BD Gallof's Hockeybuzz blog. It's from a guy who says he has Sound Tiger season tix, but is a Flyer fan. I thought his point of view was interesting...
_____________
I am a huge Flyer fan but have been swayed to rooting for the Isles when they dont play the Flyers. This is because I am a season ticket holder of the Bridgeport Sound Tigers.I have seen many of these kids grow to the NHL level and as much as I hate to see them go I am glad to see them Suceed.Anyone that has been following there teams prospects will know that Okposo is not ready to make the jump ,I will bet he is a year or 2 away.He is a little on the weak side physically.Often he puts himself in bad positioning and takes some big hits.He does have superior control skills and a powerful shot but still lacks accuracy. There are also many roleplayers coming through the system.Trevor Smith to name 1 will be a checking line center in a couple years.Plays hard decent on draws at this point.Jackman has upside also.Kohn is the only solid D prospect i see in the future.
I will be there at noon also...I will have my lil guy so I cannot hang after the game, only before.....Noon at Doolans sounds good to me !!!
What is going on for season ticket holders ????
CINCY ~
That is the point I was trying to make to everyone when we first got Kyle....No Way he sees the big leagues for quite some time!
I hear ya Steady. But I was watching the Sabres / Flyers game the other night, and the Sabres 2005 2nd round pick was in the game playing on the 3rd line. He scored a pretty nice goal too. It got me thinking... If an '05 2nd rounder is ready for the '07-'08 season, should OK be ready for '08-'09? I would've thought so. This could be symptomatic of the Gopher coaching he's been extracted from.
Merrick, I know you follow the ST's. What do you think of that guy's observations? Anyone else follow the ST's?
ex
"you rank guitar players like they're baseball players, with stats etc. ?"
No I don't rank them.....
Rolling Stone does
I just wanna make sure I have this correct...If K.O plays 9 games this year his contract is only 2 years long, but if he plays less than 9 games its 3 years long???
They are letting Season ticket holders in early for viewing the cup....
I ll stop down at doolans around 12pm.
Bryan: yes that is correct. There is a limit on games 9. 9 games count as a year on the contract but less than 9 games is essentially like a call up
505 .... where does the Rolling Stone come up with rankings? I hope not from AOL's Power Rankings. .... LOL!!
I used to subscribe to Guitar World and Guitar Player Magazine ... they always had rankings ... most of the rankings are ranked by guitarists (peers), guitar affeciandos (sp), industry professionals, and other notable guitar people ... like Les Paul ....
The last issue I had that ranked the top 100 guitarists of all time (think in 2003)... dead or alive had Yngwie Malmsteen #1 ... who is he? LOL!! Look him up ... he's a metal / classical guitarist from Sveeden.
Derek Trucks was ranked in the top 20 ... I forgot where exactly ... but the mention about him slated him as the next up and coming Guitar God, and that was in 2003.
Betts was on the list too ... but he was ranked lower.
The ABB isn't just a band ... it's a living breathing evolution. I have been to a couple of the Beacon Festivals ... and am feeling the urge to hit another this ... May is it?
Back to hockey ...
Tonight's game ... not only important for the sake of 2 points... but it's a pivotal game .... it's against a team Atlanta that has something to prove against us ... Minus Hossa but now has Colby Armstrong ... who as of late has been successful against the Islanders. Time to snuff out a conference rival to make sure we get in .. and they stay out of contention.
