The Sayville boys soccer team's unbeaten season and hopes of a state title came to an end. The Golden Flashes lost to Section I's Byram Hills 2-1 in a Class A State semifinal at the Soccer Hall of Fame. Sayville's Chris Hendrickson scored the game's first goal early, but Byram tied it quickly and contoled play outside of the earlier minutes of the second half. The winner was scored midway through the first half.

Again, the state soccer championship will be decided by a method that has little to do with how the game is actually played.
ie. The Bayport loss in a shootout. I do not live in Bayport, have never attended a soccer match in which one of their teams participated.
A team sport is reduced to an individual contest. How sad.
It is time to go to wider or higher nets in overtime or some other way to permit the game to be decided in the manner in which the game is actually played.
