Dalers Kings of Late Night

BY JOSEPH STASZEWSKI

Farmingdale was being to believe the naysayers.

“After the lost to Massapequa, a very good team, there were doubts in our minds,” Farmingdale coach Bob Hartranft said. “We hadn’t played a complete game yet.”

That all changed last night in the late late game of the Battle of the A’s Classic.

Farmingdale knocked off nationally ranked Syosset 7-6 in double overtime at around 11:30 p.m. Thursday at Mitchell Field. Both teams are 3-1 in Conference A.

“It’s just a confidence booster to defeat such a strong team in the conference and to prove we are a good team,” Hartranft said. “It was great be a part of and a step the right direction.”

Joe Celano controlled a tipped pass and scored the winner, his third goal, with 2:30 left in the second overtime. Syosset’s Jared Laverne, two goals, tied the score at 6 with 0:08 left in regulation on a pass from Jeff Cohen.

Cohen had just a goal and an assist thanks in part to the play of Farmingdale defender Keenan Ochwat.

“It was some battle between Cohen and our guy,” Hartranft said. “They battled the whole game.”

Farmingdale defender Tommy Brosnan was taken to the hospital in the second quarter because of complication stemming from a heart arrhythmia. He was released after an overnight stay and is doing well, according to Hartranft.

Hartranft said, Syosset parents, who are doctors, came out of the stands to offer help. That is a great gesture.
