St. John the Baptist heading to final again
BY ADAM RONIS
St. John the Baptist will attempt to become the first NSCHSAA team to win five consecutive championships after defeating No. 4 Kellenberg, 37-19, in the semifinals today. SJB led 17-2 after the first quarter and 22-5 at the half.
SJB played good defensively, but missed a lot of layups.
"Defense is what sustains us," SJB coach Ted Oberg said. "We got up big and thought it was over. We didn't execute well on offense."
SJB will play Holy Trinity in the final at 6 p.m. Tuesday at Hofstra. The teams split this season as Holy Trinity handed SJB just its second league loss in three seasons.
"Every time we play them it's a tough game," Oberg said. "No one is going to go down easy. We need to play better against them."
