TOP 10 LINEMEN/TIGHT ENDS ON LONG ISLAND

BY GREGG SARRA

We know it all starts up front with the big guys and without them there is no running back that can be successful. There is no quaretrback who's ever found success without a great line. Wide receivers know they need time to run routes and that time comes from excellent protection for the quarterback. It all starts up front. So here's a look at some of this year's top linemen. Now, you have to understand that I haven't seen all of them, so if you know of a linemen that didn't make the list, let me know. I wrote the same thing with the running backs and someone out there has Wantagh's Vinny Polo running for president and wanted to know why is wasn't on my list. Here's the answer -- he didn't have a great game when I was there. And that doesn't mean he's not a true talent. It means he had one game where he didn't have his best stuff against Plainedge. Here's the list of linemen, including great tight ends.
1. Tom Lindley -- Floyd
2. Shamar Stevens -- Long Island Lutheran
3. Jimmy Gordon -- Patchogue-Medford
4. Rob Scheuerer -- Farmingdale
5. Jon Lague -- Riverhead
6. Matt McBride -- Holy Trinity
7. Jon Reali -- Hills West
8. Cong Tian -- Sachem North
9. Tim Downey -- Calhoun
10. Steve Medard -- Amityville
10. Conor Kelly -- Kings Park

Gregg,

What about Joe Doyle (#54) from Baldwin. He excelled on both sides of the ball and played his best when he played the best teams (Farmingdale, Freeport and Hempstead twice)......

Hey Greg, You mentioned Williams in your blog yesterday as a possible lineman of the year for Nassau County.. He is not on the list????

i also belive that bellports 66 joe dweck who is there right tackle i belive is really good he is a two year starter and he really holds down there line i only got to see them play once or twice but i think you should check him out

Greg i was just wondering on what game you where at when you saw Tim Downey of Calhoun that would of made him earn the number nine spot on this list??

guy lindner at st john the baptist was a dominant tackle

Hey Gregg, Steve Medard -- Amityville is good but what about the sophmore offensive lineman that shut him down yesterday in the playoff game?

nice to see someone writes a story that gives credit to a bunch of guys that rarely get the credit they deserve. too many young players just want to throw/catch/run the ball and get all the glory. without a good front line, the team will not win. great article Gregg

# 72 Matt Carrello # 72 from the Bethpage Golden eagles!

Hey Greg i think Jimmy Gordon is the one you should be watching! Dont get me wrong Lindley is awsome but i think if Gordon and Lindley went one on one Gordon would come out with the win. So i think Gordon should be the winner of this years Zellner Award!!

guy lidner at st john the baptist is the best lineman on the island how can you leave him off the list

I believe that Jimmy Gordon should win the Zellner Award for the 2008 football season. I've been watching all these boys throught the season and Jimmy Gordon still seems to be on top of them all.
