Guard Jon Williams had a chance to extend the Quakers' season a little longer, but missed a three-pointer with 7.3 to go as the Red Raiders survived a late scare.
In just two and a half minutes, Mechanicville went on a 9-2 run to take a 48-38 lead with 5:30 left. But Friends responded with a 11-2 run to cut the lead to 1 (50-49) with :58 on the clock.
Paul Marra and Williams knocked down two free-throws, respectively for their teams, to make the score 52-51 with eight seconds to go. But Marra missed the first of a one-and-one with 7.3 on the clock, leaving the door open for the Quakers.
The speedy Williams ran down court after receiving the inbounds pass, but missed the three-pointer over the outstretched hand of a Mechanicville defender.
