Hey Laura
I think its great the coverage your giving to the perrenial power house teams in nassau baseball but there are some other nice stories out there like Port Washington in Conference AAIV. After having only one win last year and having only one senior on the team who doesnt even start the team is made up of jubiors and sophmores. In case you haven't been paying attention they are 5-1 in conference , 7-2 overal and in first place with long Beach..Why not take a look at team that are turning it around with a young team and playing good baseball!
Thanks
Same as above.
Why not drop by the small schools like Port Jeff? They are 8-1 in first place and just swept Southold ( a B school) including 2 games out there.
They have the lead in league runs for, lowest runs against, 3 shutouts and a perfect game already!!
Come on- these good players dont deserve to be overlooked just because they live on the wrong block!!!
seems Center Moriches is the only school that gets any note in this league.
open invitation- stop by and enjoy a game in Port Jeff. The series with Southold was great with all three games having ebbs and flows for the whole game.
Hey why don't you check out the Harborfields v Miller Place series this week, both teams are tied for first in league 6, the winner of this series most likely will win the league. Both teams are solid and have not gotten anything from newsday.
shhh!!!- dont tell anyone but Port Jeff is now 12-1 !
has 4 shutouts, a pitcher with a perfect game, and another pitcher that is 5-0.
-has won 8 games in a row
-is tied for the best record in the suffolk leagues
-scores runs in bunches
- are a great group of kids having a great time
Great Job Royals!
weekly Port Jeff Royals update
still in first place at 13-2, beat Mercy 2 of 3 games to hold onto first.
not listed in NYS rankings although they were leading league 8 and swept a class B Southold team the week before the rankings and ahead of Mercy ( maybe now they will be i the updated rankings. Not sure who makes the rankings but a team was listed there at 3-2 while Port Jeff was 12- 2 at the time . Huh?
Oh well- Been a great season so far.
take care
YEAH THATS GREAT REPORTING, A REAL IMPORTANT AND GREAT ACCOMPLISHMENT. WORKING ON A STORY ABOUT A TEAM THAT LOST 40 IN A ROW..GREAT JOB!
It's great that you repeatedly inform people that Lackner and all the other players that were supposted to be good are doing good. How about you tell people about success stories such as the undefeated West Hempstead team? Im pretty sure that 17-0 deserves some credit even if they are in ABC VII.
enough with the lackner love fest- we get it already!!!
now- how about some other players out there in leagues 5,6,7,8
and congrats West Hempstead- too bad no reporters live close enough to give you the coverage you deserve
maybe Murdoch will hire stringers to make the coverage more than lackner, connetquot, and PM
a real correct HS poll ranking that includes you know who (SHHH!) in the 6th spot of class C

best Wishes!
Thank you for the write up on Port Washington baseball playoff situation. FYI, Epstein does look like sheen and he plays like him too. He started yesterday and went 4 scoreless innings striking out 8 before Port got a big lead and they pulled him from mound to save him to start playoff game on Saturday. Incidentally he also went 4-5 and had a big day at the plate knocking in 4 runs and scoring 3 also..Not a bad day for a top undefeated Junior who is 5-0 and with an era under 1.00 for the season with over 60 K's in 40 innings pitched. Stay on this one as it is a feel good story!
nice story on port washington and JE
but SHHH- there is another PORT with a junior pitcher who is 7-0 and has 71 Ks in 43 innings!!
Dont tell anyone!!!
LOL
good luck to both the Nassau and the Suffolk PORTS!
PORT PRIDE!!!!!!!
that other PORT pitcher who's 7-0 is now 8 and 0. He threw a NO HITTER... That kid Epstein is nothing. THe real bad boy of Port is Everett "Tarzan, Spirit, Seabiscuit" Keller. This kid is a machine. Pitches like an animal and hits like one too... That first thing on Epstein sounds like the coach who just can't get enough of that kid. If only Keller sucked up like Epstein. Then who knows who would know about him?!?!?! We'll see Port in the playoffs!!
dont know about these 2 epstein, keller - i was thinking of another port! and another pitcher who is 7-0.
I am not telling anyone the name cause we got to keep Port J.... season a secret! (SHHH!!!)
as you can see i have been joking around out here for newday to show a little ink to the port jeff crew.
They have quietly went 16-5 and at least a share of first place.
(Now that they dropped 2 close games in a row, they probably will get an article! :(
Oh well!-on to the playoffs!!!
Good luck everyone!
I'm Annoyed on how everyone from the Port Washington baseball team are happy about their record in a billion years... Get into a better conference then talk about why you aren't getting reported by Newsday you guys will never be a Macarthur or Massapequa until you are, keep quite and wait your turn
Hey- can you keep a secret?
Port Jeff is Suffolk Class C Champs!!
Shhhhhh!!!!
Next stop- Stony Brook University for the LI Championships.
dang!- now you let the secret out!
doing one whole story on PJ!!!
whats the world coming too?
shhh!- dont tell anyone we are playing tomorrow!!
but- really- it was nice to finally see a real live Newday journalist at a Port Jeff game!
Thanks
PJFAN
now look what happened?
Now that you folks at newsday gave us some exposure-poof!!
we got beat!
Oh well- great season- League Champ-Suffolk Champ- Long Island Champs!
Not bad for a start!
Enjoy your summer
Laura,
As long as it's fair and you went by positions and not all pithers.
how did you choose between big schools and small schools?
how did you choose between levels of play big schools have a harder schedule?
bill
hey bill
It could be said that bigger school pitchers do not have to get 4 or 5 outs an inning due to a less stellar defense.
Some of these big schools might make a pitcher look better by scoring lots of runs for them and making more plays than a smaller school pitcher gets.
So.. when it comes to pitchers at least, who really has the harder task- a good pitcher at a small school, or a so- so pitcher that looks good with a great defense and 8 runs a game to work with from his offense.
