GMs like to say the roster is "fluid" at this time of year and the Jets showed as much today with some moves, a couple of which I mentioned in the morning practice post. Here are the moves in full:
The team signed safety Ron Girault (Rutgers), linebacker Brandon Renkart (Rutgers), receiver Rudy Burgess and linebacker Jerry Mackey (Freeport HS grad). The Jets released punter Joe Smith, safety Darnell Bing and cornerback Andre Woolfolk, who just never could get completely healthy it seemed.
Time to head out for practice.

Eric, with Smith being released, does that indicate that they are satisfied with Graham, or do you see them scanning the waiver wire for another punter? Also, how is Bradf Smith looking? I haven't read much about him.
Erik,
Woolfook was a disapoinment. I was hoping he could get his career on track. Mackey is back from last year. maybe they think he can now contribute on special teams.
IRA, this isn't an insult, but doesn't it get tiring/frustrating hoping/thinking that everyone will turn into the greatest thing since sliced bread? I mean, you're always setting yourself up for disappointment. Wouldn't you rather expect nothing, and if you get something from someone, than great?
I'll help you out, Mackey won't contribute a single thing to this team. He'll be a camp dummy who's just being used for reps. He'll be cut sometime by the end of August. Same with most of these no-names we talk about, its even highly likely that Carroll won't be there either. Add many names to that list.
dmb, nothing wrong with telling it how you feel ! LMAO!
Boland. You rootin' for orange and brown or Green and White? Which is it? Enquiring minds want to know.
Darrell...Boland's clearly got a future in Politics. BOLAND IN '08!!!!
Darrell,
Boland is having an "open competion" and is allowing both teams to show him if they are the team for him. Both teams have shown improvement, but are still far from ready to start for Boland. Any rumors that an undisclosed "third team" may come in and compete for the spot are just that, rumors. Although he will look at all possibilities and leave no stone unturned in the search for a Boland team, he believes whomever he chooses will deserve the roster spot.
Boy this Browns/Jets thing has Flight Crew-quality legs.
All good things to those who wait....
And for now that means this evening's practice report that I'm starting on. I'll hint something about the Browns, though I'll write more on this before the preseason game: I do not like Art Modell.
Erik,
God willing i will be at that Browns game next week.
dmb.,
I have scene enough of Carroll and he as not chance. But don't close the book on Mackey just yet. And everybody is different and they are entitled to be that way. I am not the least dissapointed if some of these long shots or veterans don't make it. Its their problem not mind. But i try to think positive and in sports if you don't you you have no shot.
Erik,
As we are an accepting bunch, we took you in, but forgot to give you basic Jets orientation.
Two things to remember. As a member of the media, whenever you write the phrase "Jets Fan" it must be preceeded by the phrase "Long Suffering". It's kind of like vim & vigor or peanut butter & jelly.
Secondly, long suffering Jets fans have one perpetual silver lining. No matter how bad it gets, from Coslet to Kotite, from Todd to Mirer, the Heidi Game to the Fake Spike we have one comfort. It could always be worse, we could be Cleveland.
Erik,
Catching up here but all this talk about the excellent play from the D Line has me concerned about the O Line.
Obviously you can not really tell until live action against opponent, but if the previously dormant Ellis is suddenly arisen, should we be concerned with the right side of the line??
Of all the offseason moves I find the Woody signing the most dubious (at least to play T). Is this a case of him being overmatched at the position?
Thanks for the excellent reporting.
