I had totally forgotten about this guy...

Until seeing this story late Thursday. It's about Carl Mayer, a Jets season-ticket holder from New Jersey who filed a lawsuit against the Patriots and Bill Belichick last September that contended Spygate violated the contractual "expectations and rights" of ticket holders "to observe an honest match played in compliance with all laws and regulations," might drop the case. [The stuff in "" is directly from the lawsuit and my only thought is I never in my life have seen or heard a football game - an American football game - referred to as a "match"]. Mayer has until June 30 to tell to a judge why the case should continue. I want to be at that hearing.

No legal analysis here but I'll ask this much more important question instead: what could the picture below possibly have to do with this story? There is no direct link but in a general-theme sense, there is a connection. Major points awarded to whomever gets that connection. Keep it clean.

Bryan, as to your question in the previous comments section about Baker: He has not specified - and neither have his agents - exactly what kind of $ he is looking for. Kendall last season was very clear on the dollar figure he wanted -- the $1 million dollar raise he claimed had been promised to him. Baker has not, in public, said anything more than wanting his deal redone to, as he has said, a "number that is fair" to both him and the Jets.

Coming this weekend, some more on the rookies.

The pictures is Oona O'Connell a law student from Miami/playboy playmate. I'm not sure what the connection is quite yet though.

you're a genius, dmb, he said there was no direct connection other than a "theme-scheme". you got the right connection if that is, in fact, who the picture is.

dmb88886, well, that didn't take long. The connection - a loose one to be sure - is the whole law thing as Cliff pointed out. dmb, the rapidity with which you came up with that is admirable. I'll have to come up with something more challenging next time.

Erik, I have to admit, I cheated a little bit. If you right click on the photo, and see the properties, there is a link to the picture. Well you didn't change the file name so it was called "oona.jpg". I googled "oona" etc etc.

Boland, how come Tannenbaum doesn't come out and just flat out say what he told Baker's agent? Tanny said that he has a different interpretation of what was said. Why doesn't he just tell us what was said and say they are flat out wrong or lying?

Boland:

Your hot-pics-to-blog-posts ratio has increased to Best-like proportions.

Well done!!

dmb88886, yeah, I realized after I posted the picture that I hadn't changed the jpg file name. Well done anyway!
As for your question, Tannenbaum, when we talked to him about this during minicamp, talked about how he and the organization had a good "reputation" within the agent community. An agent I talked to a while back said, for the most part, that was true. My guess is Tannenbaum doesn't want to sully that reputation, if it indeed is a good one, by using a loaded word like "liar," instead going with the more nuanced "difference of opinion."

Gridderbob, Neil Best is still the gold standard in everything.

dmb I agree it is frustrating when you want a GM to stop with the "coach-speak" on the issue. He's gingerly tap dancing around the subject instead of calling Baker a lier in the press. You can interpret the fine and his "different interpretation of the conversation" remarks as their confirmation that he is lying. But I doubt we will ever hear it said publicly.

They really need to resolve this. It will be a repeated problem if not handled correctly. An honest opinion is that this does hurt us on the field. Not as bad as PK because this time they do have a backup plan, but he is the only all around TE on the roster.

last Saturday Baker was back on Sirius NFL radio squawking about his contract again and his number one issue seems to be that Tannenbaum has not even acknowledged his dissatisfaction and that neither Baker or his agent have had any sort of conversation regarding a new deal.

I must admit, I'm a little confused as to why Tannenbaum hasn't sat Baker and Schwartz down and said in so many words that they flat out do not intend to give him a new deal this offseason. At least he'd know for sure where things stand (although he should be able to connect the dots).
