Not all rookies are at this week’s Jets OTA, an assertion I made in an earlier post. An agreement between the NFL and the NCAA restricts a player to one camp activity while his college is still in session. With the Ohio State and San Jose State school years not yet completed – San Jose State has finals through Wednesday – neither Vernon Gholston or Dwight Lowery, both of whom participated in the team’s rookie minicamp the first weekend in May, have practiced this week at Hofstra. The other draft picks, including tight end Dustin Keller, as well as the team’s rookie free agents, are there.
Basically - and don’t think I don’t appreciate the timing on this - I “misinterpreted” the wording of this rule and assumed all rookies would be at Hofstra. Bottom line: my screwup.

Boland:
You're just mad at Belichick because he left Cleveland and won championships. Fess up.
its alll gooo0000ddd
hang in there erik....ur eventually get over it
Gridderbob, wow, it's an honor to have you post on my blog. You usually hang out on Glauber's.
Mike, as always, I can count on you.
Gridder, the difference is that Belichick hired a few more video assistants when he got to New England than he'd previously had in Cleveland.
Erik--I was a huge Rock fan, but you've filled his shoes admirably. I love reading the blog, keep up the good work.
One thing I was wondering...obviously we're all keeping a close eye on the QB competition, and all the questions that go with it (has Clemens improved his accuracy/footwork?, etc). But I thought that Clemens looked a little frail last season, and needed to put on maybe 10 lbs. of muscle to avoid injury. I saw some photos from OTAs, and he looked a little beefier...are my eyes deceiving me. Thanks for all the updates...any info on Clemens is definitely appreciated.
Erik, you simply do not seem fat enough to be a Jets' columnist, which leads me to believe that you are not long for this job. Consider, Rock, Cannizzaro, and an increasingly pudgy Cimini, and one wonders hwo you plan on being successful in this niche. My advice? Hostess Sno-balls: marshmallow-and-coconut covered cupcakes. Get fat, E. Get fat.
DB, thanks.
Rich Cimini of the Daily News and I talked to Clemens before this year's draft at an NFL event in Central Park and Cimini brought up the topic you raised. Clemens said he weighed about the same (223 or so) as he did at the end of last season. He indicated he replaced some of the pudge on his frame with muscle and that his diet was better [laying off, somewhat, the "sweets" as he put it]. As minicamp and training camp get going I'm sure I'll be writing more on that, but that's the short answer for you.
R. Mc., Umm, I have no idea how to respond to that. Kind of funny that you made your post as I just responded a minute ago to DB's question, with my response containing "sweets" in it. After reading yours and laughing, I must say I respect immensely all those guys you listed. Those comfort foods you mentioned are, indeed, favorites of mine. Luckily, it doesn't show as yet. I hear middle age can be brutal, though.
Hey, Boland, look on the bright side, at least you did not speculate that, with Gholston nowhere to be found, he may have been an early casualty of the Turk. :>)
Just to add my two cents, I also enjoy your blog, moreso than that of your predecessors. The frequency with which you post and respond to posts only leads me to believe that you must have no personal life at all.
We Jets fans expect you to sacrifice everything to satisfy our hunger for any scrap of information related to the Jets. Keep up the good work!
Joe, just to prove I do have a personal life, I'm not going to respond to that. Oh...
My two favorite football teams in the world are ohio state and the jets..i wonder if other college coaches (i'm guessing they do) use the fact that buckeyes can't join practice until later because of how late the school year goes as a reason not to play for ohio state...of course, it seems tress is overcoming it
last year, before the year started, i felt it had to be clemens for the jets to succeed...i feel the same way today...pennington's arm strength cannot win in this league
C'mon, we all know Boland's holding out on us. He's the Flight Crew's bicycle....he's got some grainy cell phone pics somewhere.
On a less sickening note and a serious question heading into tomorrow's practices, what are your own personal thoughts on the plans at WR? Would Stuckey just start right in front of a slow and easy-to-cover guy like smith? Or does he have to work his way into that spot? Also, do you think that if Baker returns will we see Keller line up in the slot this year?
