McFadden to Jets: Haven't we met before?

Apparently the interest in Darren McFadden is not relegated to the FANS of the Jets. Team officials are in Arkansas today to visit with the running back during his Pro Day about a week after a contingent from the team spent time with him on campus. And, according to a report on NFL Network, have already penciled McFadden in for a visit to Long Island in April, less than two weeks before the draft.

I'll keep the "hide the women and children" jokes to myself.

Seriously, though, I've heard very few questions about McFadden's ability (although Glauber says he doesn't like his skinny legs) and far too much about concerns over his character. That's a big word for the Jets these days, character. But ultimately they are bringing this guy in to be a football player, not some highly respected job that requires morals of the utmost standards.

A job like, oh, I don't know, governor of New York.

The Jets are doing their homework with Mcfadden. A very talented kid but Glauber is right about his legs plus he runs straight up and high and this could come back and hurt him in the NFL. I would be shocked if the Jets draft him. They have other needs before making a luxury pick on him.

I am very afraid about drafting McFadden. I was all excited about getting him because I know he has talent, intil I found out that he fumbled the ball like 20 plus times in 3 years. If he cannot hold onto the ball in college, what is going to happen when he is getting pounded by bigger, faster, and stronger guys in the NFL. The JETS cannot afford to have a RB that fumbles the ball in every other game. He also supposedly has small legs, runs high, and more of a slasher- not a big pounder in the middle/inside. If Gholston is not available, which seems like he won't, I hope the Jets trade down to get more draft picks. Our two biggest needs are cornerback and a big, tall wide reciever.

I'm sorry but it's time to throw the concerns about character out the freakin window. We were 4-12 last year and need as much talent on this team as possible, so I galdy take Mr. McFadden.

Also enough about his legs and running straight up, didn't we hear the same stuff about Adrian Peterson last year.

With McFadden, running upright and/or skinny legs aren't the worries. I seem to remember a RB named Dickerson that was very successful running upright, and his legs were somewhat smaller, too.

With McFadden the greater concerns are his character (has he really learned from his bar incidents?) and his vision/mindset (he has said that he loves trying to run over defensive players). Someone with his speed needs to use that and be elusive. Earl Campbell had that style, was a lot bigger and stronger than McFadden, and played in a day when defensive players were both smaller and slower, and look how short his career was.

I worry about taking McFadden as well, but one only gets the chance to draft a player with his speed/talent so often. Unless they are overwhelmed with an offer to trade down, the Jets could make a huge mistake if they pass him up.

I absolutely believe that drafting McFadden would be a critical mistake that the JETS would live to regret.

First, we have much more pressing needs. If Gholston is off the board when we pick at 6, Leodis McKelvin has to be our guy. We need a solid starter to play opposite Revis.

In the 2nd round we could take the best player available between Quentin Groves if he's still on the board, or a WR.

Rich,

I'd rather add Groves and a WR than McFadden alone, but it may be difficult for anyone to pass on McFadden's speed and talent.
