On NFL Network

By Tom Rock

NFL Network just aired an interview with Eric Mangini. Here are all of the important points he made:

1.

2.

3.

And that's about it. Basically, Mangini refused to answer any direct questions about the draft or the team. He opened up a little when asked about his second draft as a head coach, saying that he has an understanding about who the players are on the roster and that he and Mike T. are learning from what they did last year.

At one point the interviewer asked Eric which direction he was leaning toward with the sixth- and seventh-round picks. A chuckle came from those of us in the press room, as if Eric would leak something. Basically he turned the question into a direct plea to undrafted free agents who might be watching around the country, touting the Jets as a team where people are given chances. With only four draft picks, the Jets will need a lot of those undrafted players to fill in their rookie camp.

Funniest moment: The interviewer follows it up with a "Great answer!" to Mangini.

What is it with Jets beat reporters? Stay away from Cimini... he's a cancer, and you seem to be following in his footsteps. It always has to be negative, doesn't it?

Let's see what the Jets did with this draft. They got the best CB in the entire class, which was easilly the biggest hole on the roster. Barton is an averge LILB and at 3.5 mil, isn't worth it. So, they traded up and got Harris. I didn't like it at the time, but then they turned over a rock and found a road grader small school RT (who could start at RG this year) in the sixth round.... a guy who just happened to OWN Carricker when Nicholls St played Nebraska.

Then, they manage to get a very fast, if faulted WR in the 7th round, but Stuckey has the speed to keep safeties honest when he's in the game.

Oh, and be sure to ignore the fact that Thomas Jones is part of this draft for the Jets. Go suck on a lemon, although I doubt that would make your sour puss cringe up anymore than it already is.

Try doing a little homeowrk next time... like NOT making the Nebraska beating of Nicholls St some sort of litmus teast for Bender. Carricker has only 2 solos tackles in that game, and the lone TD by Nicholls St was on a running play behind Bender who put Carricker on his arse.

Do beat reporters take the Wunderlik? If you score more than 12, does that mean you won't get the job?

John, a bit mean, but you're right on all but 2 points. Read Cimini's blog (sorry Tom). He condemned the naysayers. And, Harris is the run stopping ILB that we need.
Revis is an excellent pick, priority 1 CB--filled. Harris is a run stopper Priority 2--filled. OL addressed with Bender as a project,(we're returning all 5 OL from last year) with time to progress. Stuckey, excellent athelete with multiple skills. And don't forget 10 or so million to spend after June 1st. I too, am happy with the draft.
Don't jump Tom for his opinion, everyone has their take on things. I wasn't there so I didn't witness the confusion he might have. But everything I saw and read seemed the antithesis. Two probable starters, two viable projects. This seems like a good draft no matter how many picks you take.
Do I need to mention Thomas Jones?

I always wonder what reporters expect when they ask the question who are you going to draft, and then expect a real answer . Do you guys really think they are going to tell you? Then you complain that the coach didn't answer the question. Why should they and if they did answer I wouldn't want that coach for my team.
