By Tom Rock
So, you’ve read all of the analysis, watched all the breakdowns and listened to all the chatter. What do you think will happen in the Jets game on Sunday?
Let’s have some fun. Post your prediction for the final score as a comment here before the 1 p.m. on Sunday and we’ll see who gets the closest. If anyone can pick the score exactly right, I’ll give that person a chance to write a season-ending blog that will be posted on the site (after careful editing by our legal department, naturally – that means no cuss words! -- and some serious spell-checking).
In other words, if you pick the correct score – and winning team, of course – you can post a lengthy analysis on how this season went down for the Jets, what they should focus on during the offseason, and how things could be better or worse in 2007. I’ll do my own as well, so don’t think this is some scheme to get other people to do my work.
Family and friends who have been discouraged from posting here in the past are also welcome to join the contest. Even Glauber can give it a shot. If there are multiple winners, we can have multiple posts. The only thing you need to be sure of is that you put an accurate email address in the proper box when posting your submission. That’s how I’ll get in touch with you if you win.
Now, there’s a chance that the season-ending blog won’t run for a few weeks, wink wink. It might not even run until after the S.B. But I’ll start the ball rolling with my prediction and you are all welcome to follow suit.
Patriots 21, Jets 17
Not an embarrassment for the Jets, and not a happy-to-be-there, show-up-and-roll-over game either. A solid end to a solid season with plenty to take forward.
Let the great debate begin!

Tom Rock,
After reading your negative Jets reporting throughout the season (I surmise you were the reporter that got into the shouting match with Coles after the Raider game) one can only wonder if you really get paid enough to endure a job you apparently resent.

Patsies turn it over 4 times!
Low scoring contest, Jets need to win the turnover battle AND a TD from specials or defense to win it. Unlikely.

With a minute left at the NE 15 yard line the Jets can tie it with a TD. Pennington hand-off, end around to Brad Smith left to right, pass to McCairens in the endzone tipped and intercepted by Astani Samuel. Pats win.

Bad weather works to Jet's advantage...
Jets 24, Patriots 19. The Pats move the ball, outgain the Jets by 100 yds, but uncharacteristically have trouble in the red zone. Brady is hit and hurried all day, Rhodes has 2 sacks and a forced fumble. Gostkowski goes 4/5, but misses a gimme (<40 yds) somewhere, making bostonians long for Mr. Vinatieri.
(Yes, I’m drinking lemon/lime kool-aid as I write this)

Brady leads a touchdown drive in the final 2 minutes. He leaves 1:30 left for the Jets who drive down to the Pat's 45.. Pennington's "Hail Mary" is complete... at the 5 yard line!

Jets 16, Pats 10. Nugent active early, then the Jets break through with a TD early in the 4th, finally sealing it with an INT during a late Brady-led scoring drive.

Pats 30, Jets 13. Hope I'm wrong - I think the Jets have a puncher's chance in the game - but I think the ride ends here. If it does, however, I will still consider the season to have been a tremendous success - in my mind, the first time the Jets have truly played up to their potential over the course of a season since '98. Mangini and his staff deserve a lot of credit.

Jets defense and special teams each score or set up a short-field TD for the O. Pats surprised by the no-name Jets D. Pats will resort to a desperation trick play that might result in their only TD.

The Jets have to win this game. I need redemption for all the bad losses over the years and for Belicheck going to New Emgland instead of staying as the head coach after Parcells. I am going to travel from Long Island to Foxboro to see the game in enemy territory. Go JETS!

Jets 17 - Pats 14
Pat 13, Jet 9: after a scoreless first half.
I say the Jets will win over the Patriots by a score of: 24-17.
Jets win 22-17. The Jets get a couple of turnovers and some big plays on special teams. The Pats keep them out of the end zone for most of the game, but Nugent is a perfect 5-5 and Coles bulls his way into the end zone on a short pass from Pennington.
Jets 21, Pats 10 Jets are going to blitz Brady into making alot of mistakes. In turn they will stop the run in their back field. Chad will make some meduim to long passes for touchdowns. JETS WIN!!!!
24-22 Jets
With the jets leading 24-16 and under two minutes left, Brady drives the pats down the field to score a touchdown ... but fail on the two-point conversion.
Pats recover the ensuing onside kick, and drive to the jets 28 in only three plays ... but miss a potential game-winning field goal as time expires.

Time to take the next step.
50+ degree weather, no wind, advantage Jets. League low 103 points allowed on defense in the second half of the season. Pennington on offense, Rhodes on defense, lead the J-E-T-S to a 20-17 victory

I've had to hear all week people giving backhanded praise to the Jets. "Yeah, the Jets are playing great disciplined ball right now and Mangini has this team playing well." etc. etc. And then they go ahead and pick the Patriots. I don't blame them, but I'm tired of that same ol song and dance. I'm going to go out on a limb with the score...

No touchdowns, gritty field position game. Hey, it could happen.

Pats score all their points in the first half, but the Jets hang in there, taking the lead on a pass to Cotchery in the 4th quarter. Defense then stops Brady and company on 4th down at midfield and Chad takes a couple of knees to seal it.
