Tynes' status remains unclear for Sunday
As Rock informed you, I'm the substitute teacher today. The open locker room session just concluded and we had a chance to speak with Lawrence Tynes.
Tynes participated fully in practice today (actually, it appears as every one did except David Tyree, who's on the PUP list) and said he's prepared all week as if he was going to take on the kicking duties Sunday. Tom Coughlin wouldn't commit to Tynes' just yet, and Tynes hasn't been given the official word that he will be active and out there against the Seahawks.
"They'll tell me Sunday when I get here," he said.
Tynes said he has experienced some swelling, but there is no pain associated with it and he can play through it. He also said there is no change in his range. It's right where it should be.
"I actually felt a little bit stronger just because I've been lifting a lot more, trying to get my strength back," Tynes said.
Tynes' replacement, John Carney, likes what he's seeing out of Tynes of late.
"He looks great and strong," Carney said. "I think he's pleased with his progress. I know I've been impressed with his ability."
The Giants have been impressed with Carney's, too. He's 9-for-9 in the field goal department and leads the team in points with 35. And that's why they are not in any hurry to throw Tynes back into the mix until they think he's OK. Come Sunday, Carney and Tynes will each drive to Giants Stadium anticipating starting.
"We are both ready," Carney said, "so we'll see what happens."
