McDougle's story

He's out because of an injury, I'm being told. It wasn't severe enough for him to miss any time in practice this week, and so the Giants didn't have to list him on the injury report. But it's apparently enough for the Giants to rest him this afternoon. Call it the NY Times Curse.

We used to have such a curse at Newsday. Not so much "we" and I. I think there were three straight weeks last season on the Jets when I wrote about a player for the Saturday paper only to show up on Sunday and find him inactive. Got to be that guys were afraid to talk to me. I was like The Turk of the media. Oh well. At least those stories hold up for a few hours.

I think the Giants are trying to give me a heart attack, wow what a game. Excellent grab by Toomer in OT. And Eli looking good, who else would you want to be driving your team down the field in the 4th quarter/OT (Hell of a TD catch by Boss too)

Alright, Winston, Eli has a terrific tush good enough to eat. Wish he would get muddy for me.

Even though he had two offsides penalites, Fred Robbins has been playing terrific so far. I think that I need a bye week after having to endure that game.

The bye is great now that they're 3-0! The Giants know they have a great opportunity at a possible 6-0 after the 49ers at home, but who's looking that far down the road?!?

McDooDoo who? Forget that clown. Here's who you should've wrote about. Let me take a paycheck from ya Tom. ;)

Fred Robbins has played in 9 NFL season. But it hasn't been until the last 3 maybe 4 seasons that his name has made an impact - at least, in a Giants uniform anyway.

Let's take a quick glance at the numbers.

Robbins enters the league in 2000 as a the Vikings 2nd round, 55th overall pick out of Wake Forest. It wasn't until 2001 when Robbins began seeing extensive playing time. However, in four season with the Vikings, the now 317 lbs, 6'4" Florida native amassed just 3.5 sacks. Um, yea... that's 56 career games, and an average .06 sacks per game.

Not that his only job is to get sacks, of course. He's a run stuffer - we all know that. But let's take a look at his stats now, nearly 4 years later.

Fred Robbins comes into the Giants in 2004 - thanks in part to a failing (failed) project in DT William Joseph.

Talk about production! In just 4 complete seasons with the Giants (since taking over the starting job from William Joseph), Robbins has since posted 17.5 sacks!

2004 - 5.0 (1 interception)
2005 - 1.5 (injured/split-time)
2006 - 5.5 (2 interceptions)
2007 - 5.5 (Super Bowl Champion)

And already in 2008 he's accumulated 4.0 sacks over just 3 games! What a story this is turning out to be.

The latest on Robbins? He's trimmed up; lost some weight this offseason and says he feels better and stronger and lighter on his feet than ever before!

He's showing just that. I do beleive this is a contract year for him. Might an extension be in the works?

No matter. Here's to a good (scratch that) GREAT! season for Robbins
