Diehl wants to practice

But he may not be able to, he said, if the team is overly precautious with his sore ribs.

"I haven’t missed a practice in God knows how long," he said. "Obviously you can tell I’m frustrated, but the only thing I can do is try to get healthy and come back."

Diehl said a couple of fellow offensive linemen had some jokes for him about his softness. As you know, he hasn't missed a practice in something like nine years and has missed only a handful of snaps with the Giants. He comes out so rarely that the times he is not on the field stick out. He was asked about missing a play in 2004 and when someone said it was in Green Bay he quickly corrected the record. "No, it was in Dallas," he said, remembering that he didn't want to come out but the official made him because he had been poked in the eye and was bleeding. He also missed a series against the Bucs in last year's playoff game because of cramping.

"A lot of it is luck," he said. "Everybody in this sport takes care of themselves, gets massages, eats right, does all those things. A lot of times on o-linemen injuries happen when you’re at the wrong place at the wrong time. Fortunately for me that hasn’t happened and I’m not gonna start thinking about that now."

"I’ll be back," he said. "I’m not worried."
