A drop in the bucket

The rainy afternoon didn't put a bad taste in the mouth of the Giants regarding Albany. In fact, while the team was "practicing" in the basketball arena, the team issued an announcement that they will be back here next year for training camp.

That's about the only news that came from the walk-through. David Diehl did work and was lined up as the startinig left tackle, keeping his streak alive. It was unclear whether or not the rain actually saved his streak. Coughlin said he would have tried to go if the team had practiced outside.

As for this week's schedule, Coughlin said he had tomorrow's scheduled walk-through today and will have a regular practice tomorrow morning. "It's not the way I had planned it," he said. "It'll be great if it all works out to where we can practice twice tomorrow, but the weather forecast here has not been good. But we have to deal with the now, we can't worry about that."

Lt. Col Greg Gadson attended practice and Coughlin said he chided the war hero for arriving at training camp so late. He delivered an address to the team after the practice, relating lessons he learned in Iraq to the football field. "This message was about when he went to Iraq and the many times he's been at the front, no matter what war it was, his concern was many times about the guys who had been there, were they as focused, did they think it was a blueprint of the same experience they had just had or an earlier experience they had just had. He was more concerned with making sure those people were focused."

R.W. McQuarters missed practice for personal reasons; he was not out there last night either. Burress, Tyree, Manningham and Goff were also off on the side, though it was hard to tell who was working and who wasn't because no one was wearing pads. I didn't notice Olivea out there either.

There wasn't much to report from the actual practice. The offense did some work against a 3-4 defensive front, which they'll see in the next three preseason games. That had been a point of concern for some of the coaches considering that the young players had spent all of camp playing against the Giants' defense which is a 4-3. There were also some special teams walk-throughs and some situational drills, work on getting personnel groups on and off the field. But not much football.

That'll come tomorrow, weather permitting.
