Day after -- O'Hara, Mitchell have MCL injuries
Which is probably the best news possible. MRI exams were today but TC had no information. O'Hara told me last night that he heard something pop in his left knee, which is why he stayed down so long; if it were an ACL tear, he'd have gone right back to the turf if he'd gotten up quickly.
TC said both Mitchell and O'Hara were feeling better today. MCL tears aren't nothing, but I'm betting O'Hara can play with his. Mitchell is another story, since he has so much running and cutting to do. But Gerris Wilkinson played quite well last night, I thought, so perhaps Mitchell isn't as crucial as it might have seemed.
Sam Madison's abdominal strain doesn't appear to be a bad one, either. TC said Kevin Dockery (hip flexor) and Ahmad Bradshaw (bruised leg) are getting better and at least Bradshaw should be ready for the Bucs. They need Dockery, too, all of a sudden, because Corey Webster can't win for losing when he's on the field. Terrible illegal contact call on him last night.
As for the playoffs, TC said he snuck in some peeks at the Bucs film on Friday and Saturday, as did some of his assistants.
By about 7:30-8 p.m. tonight the Giants will know when they're playing in Tampa. Word is that if the Steelers are hosting either the Jags or Browns, the Giants will go at 1 p.m. on Sunday. If it's Steelers-Titans, then the Giants will be on Saturday night. But the Titans won't be in the playoffs until 11:30 tonight, so maybe this is all the usual speculation.
Soon as I know, you'll know. If you're at home furiously updating the blog, natch.

This was the least upset I was about a Giants loss in quite some time. In fact, I am looking forward to watching this game again on TiVo. Other than the fact that we were A) too afraid to blitz, which we did little of, and B) were somewhat soft defending the run, we gave the Pats one heckuva run. And -- miracle of miracles -- what a game by Eli! He made some great throws, would have been 25-of-32 had the Giants not dropped three balls, and most importantly showed some guts and decisiveness on that first-down run at the end of the first half on which he dived head first. It's about time, kid!
Now that I see these crucial injuries, though, the moral victory factor is quickly wearing off. O'Hara has been the unsung hero of the Jints' offensive line for the past four years and now he's questionable for next week. Before the game last night we were talking about how the Giants had to resign Mitchell, and now he most certainly will not play. And playing the injury-prone Sam Madison was a bad idea from the outset. Check my posts from the other blogs and you will see that I am not second-guessing here.
Our secondary is suspect as it is. Now it is very banged up getting ready to go against a team in the Bucs that A) has an explosive receiver in Galloway and B) will be able to break containment on many passing plays thanks to the fleet-footed, improvisational skills of Jeff Garcia.
I'll see you in Tampa, Arthur!
Eli is great at coming in second. He's a terrific loser.
In his short career (and let's hope this marks the end of it), he's lost all three of his "statement" games.
There was the so-called Manning Bowl where the Giants hosted Indy on Monday night. Lots of pre-game hype. The whole country was watching. And Eli played well but came up short.
Then there was Eli visiting San Diego, the city where he "refused" to play. Lots of hype. Lots of sports talk show BS. And Eli played well but failed to deliver.
And now there's Eli's chance to stuff the Patriot juggernaut to perfection. And again he failed to deliver. But he played well enough that almost all the Big Blue enablers are giving him a free pass.
Im telling you one more time. This is as good as Eli will ever be. He will always be second, never first. There'll always be a "yes, but..." when discussing Eli. Fans will always have to "explain" him.
In reality, Eli is nothing more than Dave Brown with a famous name.
Eli must go!
Dale, I'm a pretty staunch Eli detractor, man, but give the kid a break this week, for God's sake. He played brilliantly yesterday. It was the defense's fault we lost that game, as we hardly took any chances blitzing Brady and couldn't stop the run with our backs to our own goal line.
hey dale did ever think that statements are made in losses? Are you kidding me that your giving Eli crap for this week give me a break he threw four touchdowns he is miles better than dave brown he has a better record after his first four season than his bro and marino and his stats were better in the manning bowl than peytons. Not only that but he suffered the most dropped passes in the league his ace wideouts injuries and he has no third reciever and the worst offensive coordinator in football. He does make his share of stupid mistakes trust me i know that but he had nithing to so with that loss The defense gave the game up on a big play so do me a favor think before you talk I'm not making excuses for him these are things that are hurting him and he takes way too much heat from idiots like you
Eli haters will always find something to bitch about. Facts are that Peyton didn't win a playoff game until his third attempt in his 6th season. Eli has been to the playoffs every year he has started so he has made them 3 out of 4 and this is his third attempt. I think he will put up his first playoff victory on Sunday and certainly the Eli bashers will still have something to bitch about. To compare Eli to Dave Brown is just a sign of ignorance. Only someone who does not have any understanding of this game would compare Eli with Dave Brown, who basically accompished nothing. Also Eli threw for 3400 yds again this season. And for all the Eli bashers exactly what has Romo looked like the last 4 games? He played in the rain yesterday and looked pretty crappy in doing so. Garcia has thrown for approx 2300 yds this year and for all those who say how Eli is outplayed by journey men like Todd Collins, well Collins outplayed Romo yesterday so does that make any difference, probably not as Eli simply sucks no matter what he does. The Eli argument is moot and will never go away because even when he wins he loses. Regardless of what ELi accomplishes in NY he will never win over the bashers, so just win Eli!
dale the disgruntled....
I DON'T KNOW WHAT GAME YOU WERE WATCHING BUT THE DEFENSE LOST THAT GAME.
WELKER WAS WIDE OPEN THE WHOLE GAME. HE HAD 11 RECEPTIONS!!!!
Good post. Hopefully these guys can come back from their injuries. With that said it was nice to see the league predetermined the Patriots 16 - 0 season with bad officiating. 15 yards on Toomer for looking at somebody? No call on Wilfork? And Gaffney's No TD against the Ravens in which he bobbled the ball out of bounds and the list goes on and on.
The NFL has made it clear, cheaters can prosper.
All that I can say is Dale get a live, the Giants are 10-6 and in the playoffs, PS What did Dave Brown do in the playoffs.
