Day 2
They haven't hit the field yet, but here's the latest before I run down to the practice field:
-- Simeon Rice is reportedly coming up here for a visit tomorrow. Rice was cut by the Bucs on Wednesday after he failed a physical. He missed eight games last season with a shoulder injury and had only two sacks.
I forgot to amplify the other day why Rice and Strahan dislike each other. They play the same position and both think they're the best at it; Strahan delivered the line last year that he didn't want to "just be a Simeon Rice," as in a DE who just rushes the passer and doesn't play an all-around game.
So... Reading into this as I do from time to time, Jerry Reese is upping the ante on Strahan by inviting his nemesis in to chat and work out. If we still haven't heard from Strahan by tomorrow, it wouldn't surprise me one bit to see the Giants bring Rice into our little media room to tell us all how he'd love to be here, it's the perfect place, etc.
Heck, the team might even give him a No. 92 jersey to practice in, even though 97 is Rice's number.
More in a few hours, after practice and chit-chat with the players.

Rice and Strahan do NOT play same position. Rice is a RDE; Strahan LDE.
if anyone should be miffed at the Giants bringing in Rice, it's Osi.
Rice has spent entire career at RDE. can't see him taking Strahan's spot this late in career.
For what it's worth, I'm a big proponent of bringing in veterans of all stripes with something to prove, at the right price. Anyone remember a patchwork offensive line that had two has-beens in Glenn Parker and Lomas Brown? They played like pro-bowlers that year! Kendrick Clancy two years ago at DT? Anyone aside from me wish we could have just resigned him and waived Joseph? We can make a laundry list. Anyone aside from me think Kiwanuka is going to vie for the best off-season move of the past year? Look, sometimes, it doesn't work. Will Demps hasn't exactly been a revelation since we signed him from Baltimore. Plus, team chemistry and other factors play into it all. I just think constantly trying to upgrade the roster, in a difficult salary-cap environment, is always a good thing. Just my 2cents. Bring Rice in - THANKS FOR THE UPDATES ARTHUR :-)
Wasn't it Strahan a few years ago who went through a contract renegotiation where he rejected contracts that would have made him a cut target at the end of his career. Now he's complaining about that very same contract?
I'd like to see Reece continue to establish himself as a no-nonsense guy who is building a team that will compete every year, even if it means sacrificing the egos of some of the veterans, even fan favorites.
I think its a good move to not budge with this strahan situation. it shows reese isnt going to sacrfice what he believe for one guy. but i dont think rice is the guy to do it. old, hurt, egotistical, sounds like someone i know. and TM is right, RDE and usually the pass rushing end and RDE is the all around, maybe runstuffing guy. I dont see Rice and Osi as a great DE tandem. Maybe on passing downs but against the run they would be a little weak.
Simply put, Strahan isn't worth another penny with his age and injuries the past few years. He's crying (with all due respect) for more child support $$$$$! I'm not saying bringing in Simeon Rice will solve the problem, but Mike if you want to retire now then hurry up and do it already!!! The team won't wait on ya and neither will Jerry Reese.
