When your coach and general manager say that you are the starting quarterback, come hell or high water, and then they do an about-face because Brett Favre has the itch to play again, it is not easy. And I don't blame Rodgers one bit if he's fuming over the situation.
That said, Rodgers needs to remember the catch-phrase that best sums up his situation: Tough noogies.
Rodgers can mope all he wants about being told one thing and now being told another. But if the guy has the right stuff to make it in the NFL, he'll take this as a challenge and do his best to kick the crap out of Favre in a training camp competition that will be Favre's first since his early days in Atlanta and then Green Bay.
In the end, this might actually work to Rodgers' benefit. Unlike the past, when Favre was the unquestioned incumbent, Rodgers knew there was no chance to unseat the legend. But with Favre coming out of retirement, this is a perfect opportunity for Rodgers to state his case that he deserves to be the No. 1 guy.
If he beats him straight up, Rodgers answers his critics the best way possible. If not, then it's time for him to move on after his contract runs out after the season.
