Lito Sheppard never did get traded on draft weekend ...

... but he might be gone within a matter of days.

The Eagles and Jaguars are talking about a deal for Philly's cornerback, who was made expendable with the signing of free agent Asante Samuel.

Bob,

The Eagles acquired an additional 1st round pick in next year's draft as a result of a trade this year.

If they trade Sheppard for future draft picks, then they're stockpiling.

Is the talent in next year's draft that good? Early indications are that there are no franchise QBs in next year's draft.

With all those future picks, is a deal for Chad Johnson in the works?

Regards

Mel:

The Eagles have been interested in Johnson, but the Bengals continue to stand pat and refuse to trade him. Of course, that could all change if the Bengals feel the price is right.

With DeSean Jackson as a second-round pick, my sense at this point is that the Eagles are going in a different direction. Once things get closer to camp, things might change.

It's very tough to say whether next year's draft will be any good. All these forecasts are absurdly premature. I'm not sure Ben Roethlisberger and Philip Rivers were on anyone's radar the year before they were drafted, so let's give the season a chance to unfold and revisit.
