Tuesday fantasy wrap

BY ADAM RONIS

Two pitchers went deep into the game with a no-hitter and a perfect game and each fell short. John Lackey lost a no-hitter with one out in the ninth inning on a single by Dustin Predroia. He then allowed a two-run homer to Kevin Youkilis for the only damage. He walked two and struck out four and is 9-2 with a 2.93 ERA.

Doug Davis lost a perfect game with two outs in the seventh on a single by Brian Giles. He threw 7 2/3 scoreless innings and allowed two hits, two walks and struck out eight. He is 4-5 with a 3.86 ERA.

Chris Young pitched for the first time since getting hit in the face by an Albert Pujols line drive. He went five scoreless innings and allowed two hits, two walks and struck out eight. He should be owned in all leagues.

Why do the Giants hitters hate Matt Cain? For the second straight season, he gets no run support. He went seven innings and allowed eight hits, two runs -- one earned -- walked none and struck out eight to fall to 6-9 with a 3.70 ERA. Stick with him.

Is Brett Myers back? Not so fast. His control and allowing too many homers have hurt him this season. He was a different pitcher tonight, but it came against the Nationals, who have an awful offense. He walked just one, but also had just two strikeouts. He allowed four hits and an unearned run in seven innings for the win. Wait until he faces a real team before deciding whether to pick him up. I think he is capable of pitching well, but we need to see more.

If Troy Tulowitzki is available in your league, get him. He has hit well since he returned and could be in for a good final two months.

Tyler Yates pitched a scoreless ninth with a strikeout for his first save. He has a 38/34 K/BB ratio so beware.

Jose Reyes went 3-for-5 with his 35th stolen base and is hitting .302.

Carlos Delgado has turned his season around in a huge way and it has impacted the Mets in a major way. He hit his 23rd homer and has 69 RBIs. I can see the Mets giving him the Luis Castillo treatment now and offering a four-year deal.

Oliver Perez pitched well for the sixth straight start. His ERA is down to 4.02 and his K/BB ratio is 44/15 in the six starts. Might be time to trust him again.

Matt Garza beat Roy Halladay by going the distance on a five-hit shutout. He allowed one walk and struck out five. He is 9-6 with a 3.56 ERA and should be owned in all leagues.

Couldn't you see Carlos Lee helping a contender? He hit a grand slam and is hitting .302 with 24 homers and 87 RBIs. Oh wait, the Astros are in contention after landing a major piece in Randy Wolf. Forgot about that.

With Hank Blalock on the DL again, Ramon Vasquez is a useful AL-only player again. he went 4-for-5 with four RBIs.

J.J. Putz was given the chance to pick up a save tonight and he blew his fifth of the season. He allowed three hits and two runs in 1/3 inning.

Bryan LaHair homered for the second straight day in going 3-for-4. He should be owned in AL-only leagues.

I think I have said this about 10 times this season, but Milton Bradley left game in the eigth inning with a left quad injury. He has avoided the DL, but I'd still sell high.

Another player prone to injury, who at least has age as an excuse is Ray Durham. He left with a right shin contusion.

Joel Zumaya returned from a triceps injury and allowed a run in 1 2/3 innings.

Alexi Casilla has a torn tendon in his right thumb and could be out for the season.

Michael Young, originally expected to be out for a week with a fractured finger, played.

The Diamondbacks sent Micah Owings to Triple-A. Yusmeiro Petit will start in his place and should be owned in NL-only leagues.

I was somehow able to pull off Blalock and El Duque for Uggla in my 30 team mixed league. So now I have Kendricks and Uggla, and can only start one of them. My DH spot is taken by Rick Ankiel. Ankiel is extremely undervalued in my league, so I'm trying to shop Kendricks. Which deal, if any, should I make? Kendricks for Byrnes straight up, or Kendricks and Blake for Chris Young OF and Quentin? Please respond quickly, my trade deadline is August 1st.

I wouldn't trade for Byrnes. If you can pull the deal off for Young and Quentin, run to pull the trigger right now.
