The Reds traded Ken Griffey Jr. to the White Sox for pitcher Nick Masset and second baseman Danny Richar. The White Sox didn't have a glaring need for an outfielder with Carlos Quentin, Nick Swisher and Jermaine Dye. They also have Jim Thome as the designated hitter. Ozzie Guillen has hinted recently that Paul Konerko, hitting .214 with nine homers and 35 RBIs, could lose time. This trade makes that likely. Several things could happen. Konerko could be benched, split time at first with Swisher or split time at DH with Thome.
