Carpenter slated to start Wednesday

BY ADAM RONIS

Chris Carpenter will return sooner than anticpated and start on Wednesday against the Braves in place of Mitchell Boggs if his bullpen session goes well tomorrow. Carpenter hasn't pitched since Opening Day last season and had Tommy John surgery on July 24 of last season. Carpenter pitched several simulated games in Florida and made only two rehab starts. In 9 2/3 innings, he allowed five hits, two runs, walked five and struck out nine. Carpenter is worth the gamble if he's available in your league.
