The A's placed designated hitter Frank Thomas on the 15-day DL with a strained quad. Third baseman Eric Chavez was activated from the DL. Chavez hit .367 with two homers in 30-bats in the minor leagues.

Adam, great stuff lately (as always).
Another trade question for you: I give Sherrill and Hermida; I get Pence. I have closers to burn (Sherrill, Gregg, Fuentes, Franklin, Wheeler) and feel like I can always find saves on the cheap should one of those guys lose save opps.
Thoughts?
I'm not as good as Adam BUT I would love to get the PENCE side of the deal. PENCE has been scorching in MAY (.378) and should almost certainly hit above .320 with some pop.
What do you think: Kershaw or Cain tonight?
How do you feel about Alex ZGordon going forward? Is his average going to drop?

I would do that deal and try to get something back in return. It's about value and Sherrill has value for now. Some of your other closer don't have great job security or are short-term options. Don't just throw-in guys. You don't have a Rivera, Wagner, K-Rod or Nathan to lean on.

Gordon's average will definitely drop. His BABIP is around .360. That's a number he can't sustain and indicates he is getting lucky right now.
