Bruce expected to be called up tomorrow

BY ADAM RONIS

The Reds are expected to call up outfielder Jay Bruce, Baseball America's 2007 Minor League Player of the Year, before tomorrow's game. Bruce, 21, is considered the top prospect in the minors. In 49 games at Triple-A Louisville, he hit .364 with nine doubles, five triples, 10 homers, 37 RBIs, and eight stolen bases. Pick him up in all formats.

Fortunately with Bruce, he was added to the Yahoo player pool in March.

Here in Cincy we've been waiting for "The Boss"Jay Bruce for over a year now. Jay Bruce should be more productive for sure than Longoria from here on out.

Yeah, Bruce is currently in the yahoo pool. Not sure if that's only if a team in that league drafted him. Is he available in any league where a team didn't draft him?

He wasn't drafted in either of my leagues but was definitely on the waiver wire since Opening Day. Yahoo! does have an odd system, considering he never played a game in the majors. It might go by the 40-man roster, not 100% positive though.

Adam ,

Here is the tuffest question we've had to face this year as far as prospects go...

If you have the #1 waiver pick tonight , who are you picking up , Jay Bruce or Clayton Kershaw ??? Both players are clearly considered the best prospects at their position , Kershaw as the best pitchinig prospect and Bruce being the best every day playing prospect.

Will,

It depends on whether you need a pitcher or hitter more. If you could use each the same, I'd go with Bruce. He has more of a chance to have an impact and get more playing time the rest of the season. Kershaw is only 20 years old, has exhibited control issues in the minors, hasn't pitched above Double-A and the Dodgers will be very cautious with him. He could be sent back down to the minors in a few weeks.
