Why exactly is there optimism around the Knicks?

2008-09 Knicks

Let's see . . .

--Stephon Marbury is still there and still acting like a clown;

--Eddy Curry showed up at camp fat and out of shape;

--Quentin Richardson is talking about taking more of a leadership role. Awesome. That'll really go over well when he's injured in Game 7 and misses two months;

--D'Antoni's offense is designed to get off a shot in seven seconds. Jamal Crawford thinks he has died and gone to heaven;

--Even if they get rid of Marbury, Chris Duhon is the starting point guard;

--First-round pick Danilo Gallinari has a bulging disk in his back;

--Jerome James, Zach Randolph, Jared Jeffries, Nate Robinson are still on the roster. Find me a winning player among that quartet;

--Allan Houston. Please. Take a job in the MSG executive ranks already, ok?

--Donnie Walsh has made little, if any, progress on the cap situation.

Can Walsh and D'Antoni really make chicken soup out of this chicken poop of a team?
