Selling your championship ring on eBay? It's popular!

clippers.JPGTheBigLead has a great post this morning about how a senior vice president from George Mason is selling their Final Four men's basketball ring on eBay.

Which, of course, led me to do what any sane person would do this in this situation: check out what other championship rings you can purchase on eBay.

* Bart Starr's Super Bowl I ring
No kidding. How do people get this stuff?!?! Asking price: $7,000.

* 2000 Mets NL championship ring
Hmmmmmm. The item description says: "This NY Mets Scout ring belonged to a former ML SF Giant..." A quick Google search of "Mets scout former Giants" comes up with this 2006 obit of former Mets scout Buddy Kerr, who was a Giants player before becoming a Mets scout in 1975. But the story says he retired in 1996. And he played for the NY Giants, not the SF Giants. Anyway, it's still a Mets championship ring, and it could be yours for ... $7,900. Yikes.

* Columbus Clippers 1984 championship ring
Man, this is my favorite for sale. I didn't even realize minor-league teams get rings when they win the International League. The ring doesn't look too shabby either. The seller won't name what player it belonged to until it's sold. So we can only guess. Rex Hudler? Jim Deshaies? Butch Hobson? Seller wants $2,195.

* Isiah Thomas' 1990 NBA championship ring
Oh my. Do I even want to know how his ring got into the hands of someone selling it on eBay? Or, perhaps it's Isiah selling it? Hmmmmm. Maybe I'll ask him at the Cablevision Christmas party. Seller wants $4,900.

* MVP Larry Brown's 1992 Super Bowl ring
Could be yours for a cool 10 grand...

* 1998 Tennessee football back-to-back champions ring
Only a few hours left and no one has placed the opening bid of $3,900.00. The post said it will not identify the player selling the ring until it is bought, but, alas, the photo clearly shows the name "Stephen" engraved on it. A quick Google search tells me that the only player with a similar name is Travis Stephens, a sophomore RB on that team. Whoops!

* Mike Jarmoluk's NFL Alumni ring
The inscription says "World Championship Bears 1946; World championship Eagles 1949" and it's going for $3,500. Any takers?
