It's probably better off the Mets missed the playoffs

While waiting in line at the butcher shop yesterday, I ran into a few neighbors who are Mets fans. We talked about how tough the final game was, blah, blah, blah, but then Joe from two doors down said something rather insightful.

"It's always good to be in the playoffs, but with this bullpen was this team really going anywhere?"

Fair point. No doubt about it, you never know what might happen once a team qualifies for the postseason (i.e. '05 Cardinals, '02 Angels, and to a lesser degree the '07 Rockies).

But when you really think about it, would the Mets and their wholeheartedly unreliable bullpen really been able to win a short series? Doubtful.

So maybe the way it went down was for the best, as in, 'Get the disappointment over with and let's move on.'
