Rookie disorientation

Rookies Mario Chalmers and Darrell Arthur -- stars of Kansas' national championship team -- have been booted from the NBA's rookie orientation program for allegedly smoking marijuana.

Chalmers' agent, Sam Goldfeder, told The Associated press that he's "in the process of investigating what exactly is going on." But ESPN The Magazine's Chris Broussard reports that both Chalmers and Arthur were caught with marijuana in their hotel room at the Doral Arrowwood Resort in Rye Brook, N.Y. League rookies arrived at the resort Tuesday night for a four-day seminar on adapting to life in the NBA.

Hey, some adapt better than others.

You will remember Chalmers as the Jayhawk who made the buzzer-beating three-pointer that forced overtime in KU's 75-68 national championship victory over Memphis. He was picked 34th by Memphis and traded to Miami.

Arthur became one of the focal points of draft night when the supposed lottery pick dropped all the way to 27th. He was selected by New Orleans, then was passed around like a ... oh, never mind. He was traded three times -- to Portland, Houston, and then Memphis.

Broussard reports that each player was fined $20,000 and will begin the season on the suspended list. They'll have to attend the rookie program again next year for some more, um, orientation.
