Grizzlies have space for Z-Bo, but do they have interest?

What's intriguing about the Memphis Grizzlies' attempt to sign Josh Smith to an offer sheet -- which the Atlanta Hawks quickly matched -- is that the Grizzlies are making a real attempt to improve their team and actually compete.

There is an assumption that maybe now that Smith is gone and the Grizz still have loads of cap space, perhaps they would consider taking Zach Randolph from the Knicks. The Grizzlies do have size with Darko Milicic and Marc Gasol, but neither are legit low-post scorers like Z-Bo can be. He would fit with Rudy Gay as a good 1-2 punch at the forward spots.

Even with adding Randolph, the Grizzlies would still be under the $71 million luxury tax threshold, but over the $58 million salary cap. The Knicks would likely take back at least one salary in any trade and it might have to be a Milicic ($14.5 million with two years left) or one of the plethora of guards (Javaris Crittenton or Kyle Lowry could be available). But what the Knicks should do is see if the Grizzlies would part with Hakim Warrick, just because he's athletic and long and cheap.

Quite frankly, however, a Z-Bo - to - Memphis deal isn't likely, in my opinion. I think the Knicks are more likely to take Randolph into the season and try to get the most out of the 20-10 guy and see if his value goes up. Then see what they could fetch for him at the trade deadline.

Between us, Fixers, we should be keeping a closer eye on Stephon Marbury's situation and the possible scenarios out there for him.

Leaving today to return to New York. We'll catch up next week.

I love the Z-Bo for Warrick idea! Hakim would fit into D'Antoni's system better and save us some money. It's probably wishful thinking, but it would be nice.

Beman Isola AH and KD all have emailed me and said that Peaceman is hands down the dumbest poster of them all.

And he is still worshipping Isiah's jock strap? - LMAO!

I too have thought that Memphis was our last, best hope for dumping Randolph as they could absorb his contract or act as the third team in any deal. However, it now looks unlikely that he'll be dealt, at least until February or next off season.

The perfect landing spot for Randolph is a team like Detroit or San Antonio, with lots of veterans, and where he is a sixth man, and doesn't consider himself "the man." It would be great for the team, and probably great for Zach.

And its time already to cut Marbury otherwise this team will implode like last year's team.

I understand all the Z-Bo talk, I just don't understand why there isn't Curry talk as well. That guy flat out stinks

Nothing says "Skip me" more than anything posting
"Anonymous."

Curry is not as bad as people make him. You have to remember, he was on the brink of being an all star the year before Zach got here. I think with the proper coaching, he'll be ok in the new system. There is nobody in the league that can stop him down low. We can't say the same for Zach. Zach is probably a better scorer than Eddy but Eddy is a better low post presence. If Curry was on the block....trust me, teams would be lining up for him. I'm not saying every team in the league but I could think of at least 10-15 teams off the top of my head that would trade for Curry.
Zach on the other hand will probably be traded because he just doesn't fit. Is Zach a better player than Curry? Yes he is, but that means nothing. Is Steph a better player than Jamal? Yes he is but he'll be traded before Jamal because of how he fits with the team.

LOVE ZACH FOR WARRICK ALWAYZ BEEN A FAN OF HIM
BUT I DON'T THINK THE GRIZ WOULD DO IT MAYB U NEVER KNOW

CURRY WILL NEVER BE GOOD UNLESS U RUNNIN THE OFFENSE THROUGH HIM AN HE AINT NO JORDAN AN THE KNICKS TRIED THAT AN THEY WON 34 GAMES
CURRY NEEDS TO HIT TO FREE THROWS AN HE CAN AVERAGE GOOD NUMBERS
DEFENSIVELY HE WILL ALWAYZ BE A SCRUB

stayed tuned for more KnowLedge

That was Knowledge? Niqqa please!!!
First thing you should do is get cable so you can watch the games.
Second thing you should do is come to DaJokas basketball camp and see how it's done.
You all are invited at no charge.
Only person I would charge here is Alan Hahn because he needs the most help out of anyone here.
Hallelujah...........

hanging out in nova scotia for a long weekend. Incredibly gorgeous here, I highly recommend it.

Hey Sec11,

I'm in NFLD. if you get a chance, check it out. BTW, have you been to the flowerpots? Awesome, the Tidal bore in Moncton ain't much but Truro's tidal bore is supposed to be good. Sorry, back to our regularly scheduled programing.

I'm a Warrick fan, but why take away minutes from Lee, Chandler and Gallinari? That makes no sense.

Send Curry and Lee for Darko, Javaris and a 1st rd pick.

I agree w/Zach for PG.

I am in Cyprus and it is filled with women fromeurope, easten block, and med on vacation.

A must in August

Honestly why don't we just trade Eddy Curry, David Lee and Q-Rich to the Griz for Antoine Walker, Darko and Mike Conley. First of all the contracts all add up under the salary cap. Two the players that the Knicks receive in the deal the Knicks control the destiny of because Antoine has a team option clause in his contract so if he doesnt produce we can just drop him. Mike can absolutely flourish in D'antoni's system and Darko is a good enough big man with only two yrs. left. The Griz are in desperate need for a frontcourt and a shooter to fill the void that Mike Miller left.

The only realistic scenario where the Memphis Grizzlies would be willing to trade any of their players in exchange for Zach Randolph's contract is if he has unexpectedly died. The Knicks would be required to provide a valid death certificate and proof his contract is fully insured before any trade concerning Zach Randolph could be completed. Otherwise the Grizzlies would clearly prefer to save their salary cap space to sign players in the future of the team's own choosing without any compensation requirements or the need to accept any of the liabilities associated with trading for Zach Randolph if he were acquired still alive.

I see the quailty of the posts are significantly decreasing here. Guess that what happens when Alan's post revolves around trading Z-Bo to a team that would never take him and he would hate playing for.

Memphis may take Z-bo, but they wouldn't be giving Warrick back in return. No one on the Knicks has any trade value at the moment as they a collection of vastly overpaid, underperformers. It would a salary dump on the part of the Knicks and little else; think second round pick ala Marcus Camby deal.

I have previously made many of these trade suggestions on my website, nbagauntlet.com. I think trading Randolph makes sense, because he is good offensively, but takes minutes away from Lee, Chandler, and Gallinari. Really, the team needs a point guard, so Conley would be great on the team with his speed.

There’s also a poll with analysis at NBA Gauntlet about who’s better, Wade or Arenas. It looks like it’s a close race.

The only trade possibility I think the Grizzlies might be willing to consider for Zach Randolph is Antoine Walker and Marko Jaric. Another possibility is offering Zach Randolph to the Pacers for Troy Murphy and Jamaal Tinsley. Neither is ideal but we are talking about trying to trade a player with a ton of baggage who also has a max contract to NBA teams who are now very luxury tax conscious.

@Knicks4Life

i agree...
I find the quality of posts for the last couple of
weeks have been dropping in quality
and have been quite confrontational.

nobody seems to be able to accept dissenting positions
without attacking the poster.
argument and counter argument
present your facts as to why you agree or disagree
and move on
it seems like people are taking this blog way
too seriously.

bty memphis is not trading for zach
doesn't the memphis coach run
the same system as d'antoni?

@Alan
you need to check some these posts
i don't think you want that type of language
on your blog
i think your "respect the blog" mantra
has been violated

@ Ny 2 infinity,

Maybe it's time for Registration @ the fix...that would solve a lot of these "Mak's" from Starberman's, posting under other's names!
Makunat is notorious for that...and believe it or not He's is also the troll "Anonymous"...he did the same routine @ Starbermans!
Note that while some good heated but respectful exchanges go on...
he's the first to attack with non-hoop venom. He wouldn't dare post @ the Fanatics...I'd have the address to his parents basement...and would visit.....just once! lol

Jason Kidd looked his age today against China. Team USA
better bring more than what they showed today!!!

Low IQ Thomas drafted and wasted a pick on low IQ Balkman.
This was blessed and supported by Mr. Low IQ PeaceBOY.

PeaceBOY:
Keep in mind that I'm not the one who called our host Alan a racist and cursed him out. AH is perhaps one of the best host in blogosphere and most interactive. Yet you have abused and disrespected him so many times. He labeled Balkman low IQ from a sports/basketball point of view and nothing more but you BOY are/were to dumb to comprehend that.

And oh yeah, Isola and Berman emailed me too. They both said you're the dumbest lowest IQ poster in the history of blogosphere.

My postings have my blogname on them BOY as I stand behind each & everyone of them.

I thought Team USA looked fine today. They had trouble guarding the perimeter early and their inability to hit a shot from three may make these games closer than they should be. J. Kidd looked slow on offense but pretty good on D, which is interesting since it is not what he is known for. Team USA is all about ball pressure, I think for a team that is better at breaking their press than China, who did not have a good PG, we are going to have to adjust our D. Maybe play a 3-2 to shut down some of those threes with Howard and Bosh protecting the rim. They have a great coaching staff and the great equalizer in LBJ so I think they'll be fine. Its almost criminal that they can't get some talent around this guy in Cleveland. I think it is almost a sure thing he bolts in 2010 I just hope we have a team by then.

That Men's swimming 4x100 might have been the greatest race in any sport I've ever seen. That entire French team had that cocky Tony Parker expression on their face which made the victory all the sweeter.

This guy Mak is a troll that needs to go! He's Berman trash!
Nothing about the Knicks ....only childish statements.

Trade Zach to Memphis for a second rounder and tell them we will pay his salary this year..Then we start next year with a decent young nucleus and under the cap....Sounds drastic but we have to be drastic to get rid of all these losers..

Then find someone to take David lee for a 2009 first round pick..

Keeping 2010 alive
with my bulljive

this blog is wayyyyyyy better than marc berman's blog on the new york post website. marc berman is a gay hack.
