Long day of travel, et al...
I can confirm the SI.com story about the Knicks-Clippers talks involving Zach Randolph. Sounds like a stalemate for now, but it's so early in the summer. The Clippers have other options to consider, but none of them put up the numbers that Randolph puts up. They have plenty of cap space so making a trade is not an issue. They'll probably look at what is available before getting back into Z-Bo talk.
You would think Donnie would move Zach without hesitation, but he apparently was the one who declined. Curious. I'm trying to find out what the Clippers offered -- there's very little on their roster and, as you guys have already noted, Tim Thomas and Cuttino Mobley both expire by 2010. But, again, the salary doesn't need to match in this case so that's not a concern.
Stay tuned . . .
Meanwhile, Stephon Marbury showed up for the summer league team's first practice here in Vegas. He had on a vintage t-shirt from the Flamingo and a new Starbury logo tattoo on his skull. And, as usual in the summer, he was filled with smiles.
Said he wanted to be a Knick and wanted to finish his career in New York but understands the business and that anything can happen. Steph said all the right things tonight, Fixers. And he even had some fun with your beloved blog host when I asked him if he preferred to know about his future sooner rather than later so he could have more time for free agency and finding a new team to play for. He smiled.
“No, I’m gonna let you keep writing that," he said. "I’m gonna let you keep reporting that. I’m gonna let you keep talking about what they’re gonna do, because you sound like you know what you’re talking about.”
I replied, "So I’m pulling it off, aren’t I?"
“It’s funny,” he said. "Funny."
Berman was jealous.
Practice tomorrow morning and we might be able to watch. I'll check in afterward to give an initial observation of Gallo - Tha Roostah!

"Berman was jealous." Ha ha ha ha ha ha, classic.
What could be the holdup on a Zach-to-Clips deal? They're not giving up Thornton or Eric Gordon for Randolph, so what is Walsh waiting for? Then again, the only other name I've heard linked to the Clips PF spot is Paul Davis, so maybe it's worth waiting them out to see if NYK can get a pick out of them in 2010. Not gonna hold my breath on that one, though.
Alan - you are one funny dude! I laugh all the time reading your blog....
but with regards to Donnie passing up the opportunity to dump z-bo, well there's nothing funny about that....
I've got respect for Donnie, so I won't throw him under the bus yet, but I have to admit that right now, I don't understand how he does not dump z-bo.
I was listening to BT on ESPN Radio
Ian Thomsen was just on stated that he believe the deal was a 2nd rounder for Zach Randolph straight up.
Another words just a salary dump, the Clippers are under the cap and could take his contract/o no problem
and Walsh turned it down !!!!
WHY SHOULD I BELIEVE IN THIS REGIME IF THAT IS TRUE !!!!
I guess walsh wants some leverage
in regards to trading zach
you never want to trade from desperation.
maybe the clips will up the ante
its like poker
make them think your hand is better than you actually have...LOL
mobley and tim thomas sounds like a plan to me
maybe even throw in a pick
i wish they could trade curry's fat ass too!
Be patient Brandon...I think it is too early to jump the gun on Don. If anything, Walsh has shown to be a very patient GM/president.
Alan,
Any chance you might be able to take a few photos and clips of the practice?
Considering that Utah basically owns our first round picks in the next two drafts, I'm guessing that Donnie is likely holding out for a #1 from the Clippers or whomever inquires about Zach, so as to replenish the first rounders that Isiah traded away.
IDK what's crazier the fact that fans think this is really a good non move or the fact that people think there is a high demand on ZBo, you deal him for the cap relief how hard is that for people to understand. My god this is truely a stupid organization ! Rod Thorn making moves to setup for a big haul in 2010, meanwhile Donnie Walsh is wondering whether getting Zach Randolph off the books is a good decision. You can't make this crap up ! Where's Joe Beningo when you need him ! Why is WFAN not hitting on this yet !
My guess is that there will be future chances at a salary dump. Donnie is still hoping to get a little more. Give him some space. If he acted as deperate as some of you, he would be viewed as a pushover!
@Brandon
if zach is still around for training camp i will agree with you.
walsh must think he can get something better in return
i think maybe a #1 pick
i heard all they offered was a 2nd round pick
now i know zach's stock has fallen but damn...
just a 2nd pick
that is a pretty flimsy offer.
a straight salary dump and only a 2nd rounder
they did not even thow in a player for good measure
walsh must have some better deals on the table...
but like i said
if zach is still on the roster for training camp
then i will agree that not trading zach to the clips
was a stupid mistake
but i do think that zach is
worth more than a 2nd rounder
Hey Allen name is Eddie and I am a new blogger but have followed you since you started. I would like to extend to you mad props for keeping us informed of everything Knicks.
I blogged a proposed Thomas & Mobley and a first rounder for Zach as soon as Brand signed with the Sixers so very happy to hear that it might happen! Also had Danilo since I first heard we pick sixth! Hope I go 2 for 2
I do have a question I cant seem to get a legit answer to. Why do you hate Marbury? And how can we even consider cutting him or buying him out?
I know he has not helped us win with Isiah's regime but we have a new regime and is Marbury not worth an equal right to prove his worth as any other Knick? Is he such a cancer? Who is saying this? Is his word more worthy of more a chance then Marbury?
Just need to understand where all this has come from!!!
See Hahn, you made Marbury laugh, because he reads your blogs that make you sound like you are in the KNicks War Room cutting deals, you're a reporter, and when you try to advance news with your opinoins, you are no longer a reporter. You and your kind don't know that Marbury isn't going anywhere, but you idiots have to keep reporting this garbage. Marbury practices with the team everyday, if he'd lost a step or something, wouldn't they have already seen it in him that he doesn't have it. He's staying. I'd laugh at you in your face too, keep writing wasted articles, you feel stupid when you reporter over and over, a dead story.
AS For trading Zach, THANK THE STARS, Thats real GM work, move Zach and let D.LEE start with Gallo, and bring Q off the bench. Marbury and Crawford, Gallo and Lee, with Curry. thats a starting 5, Duhon,Nate,Chandler,Balkman,Jeffries off the bench thats a roster. So keep writing your garbage.
Why not trade every Knick to the Paper Clips for cap relief and a draft pick? Then we could play Isiah Thomas (make him earn the money Dolan is paying him) along side the NY City Dancers. With a team like that, how could we not finish dead last and have the best chance of the number 1 pick? Perhaps Dolan will even cut CableBlindness' rates (you think?) By 2010 the Knicks would have both the lowest NBA payroll and lowest attendance -- even if they gave away free food every night.
Seriously guys, Zack Randolph is a 20+, 10+ player who would be a star on a good team with solid coaching. Yes he holds the ball too long and his D could be better. But, only the Knicks could bring his value down to the point where a team would offer only a second round pick for him. The Knicks stunk so bad that if KG played for the Knicks last year, we probably would only be offered a first round pick for him now. No player can do it alone. Even Kobe would not have turned the Knicks into an NBA finalist - with the team and coaching we had.
When ZeBo is again averaging 20+ and 10+ this season in D'A's system watch the offers go way up. You need to get reasonable value for a good player.
Cap space is not an end in itself. LaBron and other free agents are not going to come to NY in 2010 if we don't have a nice team to surround him (or them).
@ knicks fans get a clue dude if don't like what alan has to say why are u here reading about it the other ppl that read his blog really enjoy it. He is a millon times better then the other papers so just chill out
Marbury could very well be gone soon. But why throw him away? The guy has tallent but he has been a disaster on the Knicks. Not all of this was his fault. Poor management contributed greatly.
Again in the NBA, the idea is to maximise your assets. SM will be playing for a new contract. So showcase him and get some value for him or let him play out the season and drop off the cap-unless he becomes too much of distraction to the team. We all work with people we don't like. He is still the best point guard on the Knicks.
Unfortunately, last year's Kick mismanagement lowered the trade-value of the entire team. And the press (including you Alan) write all to often negative stories (albeit with some truth) that devalue Marbury's and Randolph's desirability to other teams.
But take heart, Mr. Hahn, even your outstanding journalism can't be held responsible for Jerome (Jessy) James' worthlessness given his highway robbery of the Knicks who paid him over a million dollars a minute last year for his playing time.
Thanks Donnie.....This could of been our biggest headace gone away!
Bobcats Impressed With Augustin
Jul 12, 2008 3:22 AM EST
Bobcats coach Larry Brown, who has a reputation of being tough on rookies and point guards, has so far been full of praise for his rookie point guard D.J. Augustin, according to the Associated Press.
"He just does what you ask him to do, without exception," Brown said after a minicamp practice this week. "I knew he was a good player but he's far exceeded my expectations."
After seven practices over four days, Brown thinks Augustin has grasped the fast-moving, quick-passing offense he wants.
"It'll be neat because once the veterans come in I think he'll endear himself to all those guys, because if you get open he's going to get you the ball," Brown said. "He thinks pass first. He gets you into what you want to do. He gets the ball to the right people. He's real good."

Thanks Again Donnie....F%ck the Rooster
Studs: Mario Chalmers again looked great for the Heat; one Heat source commented that maybe they have found their point guard of the future. 5 of 10 shooting with 9 assists and three steals is not a bad day at the office.
OH..my Bad...we have DUUUUHONNNN!
you gotta give donnie time. its july.
as much as i wouldve loved to see z-bo just moved to fee cap space, you dont know what other interest is out there. you're hearing a small percent of the actual conversation out there.
if there's one thing we know about donnie, its that he doesnt like to show his hand at all.
so, just be patient.
if on opening night, we're starting zach and curry down low again together, then i think we could have something to really be worried about.
from my sources: the exact trade was....
Zach Randolph, Nate Robinson and Wilson Chandler
for
Tim Thomas and Cuttino Mobley
now u tell me if u would make that deal....im glad Donnie said no!!

knicks fans get a clue is either:
1. marbury's pops OR
2. berman in tha flesh
and if you really want lee to be our starting PF along w/ da rooster at SF you my friend must be 'smokin' rocks' with tyrone bigums cuz lee is amare stoudamire minus tha D. hence his name should be AVID LEE. we surely will be back in the lottery again next yr w/ if we start those 2 as our forwards.
Why can't we use Zach to get Ron Ron?

Artest watch continues
Posted by Sam Amick
I have no update as yet on the one-sided Lakers-Kings talks reported on Thursday, but keep an eye on Ronny Turiaf's situation while the waiting game continues.
The Lakers forward has accepted a four-year, $17 million offer sheet from Golden State and the Lakers have seven days to match it. It seems inconceivable that they will and it's to the Kings' advantage if they don't.
If they are to convince the Lakers to take back forward Kenny Thomas in a deal in which Artest would be LA-bound and Lamar Odom would come to Sacramento, they need Turiaf to head for the Bay Area. The Lakers are already near the luxury tax and not looking to go any further, and they may buy into the logic that Thomas - who turns 31 on July 25 - could provide quality defensive-minded minutes off the bench just like Turiaf did.
With the chance to get out of Sacramento and his invisible existence, Thomas may even do a few dances courtside like the jovial Turiaf has been known for. Thomas is owed approximately $18 over the next two seasons, so the lump sum is about equal with Turiaf's offer sheet (albeit in two less seasons). It's the price of doing business if they want to acquire the underpaid Artest ($7.4 million).
Meanwhile, the many who can't envision a Lakers-Kings blockbuster trade of any kind have a valid point. It would go against the NBA grain, but it should be said that any and all theories that the Maloofs simply wouldn't let it happen couldn't be further from the truth. They will pull the trigger if they get what they want.
If not, they'll hope to make something happen with someone else. Among the teams I've been told to keep a serious eye on in the Artest sweepstakes: Dallas, Miami, Phoenix, San Antonio and maybe even Charlotte. I often wonder about Toronto as well, but have yet to hear anything substantial on that front.
* As a quick sidenote, Artest continues to routinely go on the air with KHTK's Carmichael Dave.
The latest from the Ron-Ron show: he's decided to change his name. OK, so technically he wants to go by his middle name of William. The thinking? Since Ron Artest is back to getting so much negative media coverage, maybe going by Bill - as he requested to be called - could give him a fresh start. Never a dull moment... - Sam Amick
Greg - to answer your question - there is no way I'd ever make that deal
Peaceman - could you imagine the Kings if they swapped Artest for Zach? - with Beno U, Kevin Martin, Zach, etc. their ball movement would make last year's Knicks look like the 3 passes before every shot Hickory High team from Hoosiers.
Are you guys out of your mind?
You can't seriously think that Walsh made a mistake in the draft because of somebody's performance in Summer League, or, even more laughable, practice.
Why don't we wait until these guys play in ONE NBA game, or maybe even a season or two if you're feeling like being fair, before we start passing judgment.
It's one thing if you just straight up don't like Gallinari. That's fair enough. But to say we made a mistake based on one or two summer league games, or something that Larry Brown (aka Mr. Honesty) says?
Does anyone remember last year's summer league, when Nate Robinson looked like he had finally put it all together? What happened there?
Give it time. Everything takes time. Rome wasn't built in a day, and Rome didn't start out as a steaming pile of sh*t full of malcontents and overpaid, underworked selfish bastards. This team is not going to magically vault to the top just because we're able to dump ZBO, who, by the way, is probably our second or third best player.
I'll put it this way. There's no way that he is going to play WORSE under D'antoni's system. It simply is not possible. If anything, the longer you hold onto him the more you will be able to get in return, IF you wind up wanting to move him after all.
YOUUU ROCKKK !!
hilarious post !!!
Walsh is holding his water like a veteran. Clippers have just begun to sweat. Remember, everybody is still trying to get something for nothing - i.e. free agency, no need to give up players, add talent. As soon as Josh Smith's destination is cleared up, and the pool of available talent at the power forward spot dries up (Turiaf and etc.'s not difference makers, but good pick ups), the teams that think they can make a run next year will be left contemplating their lack of post scoring and Zach will begin to look good. How long can the Wariors hold out? Are they looking at three more years building around Montae Ellis? Do they think they can contend now? Do you really need Don Nelson for a rebuilding team? Do the Clippers feel they have enough fire power with Kaman taking the scoring touches in the post?
Plenty of time, in fact, time is the only weapon Walsh has. People would love a panic move of dumping Randolph for a second round pick in 2030. Everyone knows the knicks situation, the only thing that will change is the competitive realities of the other teams in the league. Walsh is letting nothing out, playing it cool, waiting for the market to change to his advantage. Its D'antonis problem to get these current players to excel, he relishes this challenge, Walsh won't fire until he sees the whites of their eyes.
I dont know, Donnie might have dropped the rock, with that one... What is not being said is that when you trade a player outright and receive no salary in return, you get a trade level exception for the value of that player... I'm almost sure of that... So the Knicks would have 14mil to go after free agents, that are still out there... Which means they could throw that money at Josh Smith or Monta Ellis... They could have gone after 2 or 3 lesser players that fit into Dantoni's system also... So Donnie might have screwed up here... Zach is a good player, a possible future all-star, but their arent many teams that could completely absorb his contract and give you no salary in return... He better have a better deal out there...
TRADE 1:
New York Knicks
Eddy Curry – Center ($9,723,983-$11,276,863, 3 years - player option final 2 years)
For
Oklahoma City “Sonics”
Luke Ridnour – Point Guard ($6,500,000, 2 years)
Saer Sene – Center ($2,252,400-$3,911,405, 3 years - team option 2nd year)
Why the “Sonics” will accept the trade?
This is the type of trade in where another man’s garbage is another man’s gold. Oklahoma City “Sonics” no longer need Luke Ridnour with them drafting Russell Westbrook, and they are probably shopping him for a center. They get a legit 7-foot center in Eddy Curry, who will provide much needed offensive help in the post. The “Sonics” would be out of their minds if they pass up on a guy who can average 18 and 8 a game for them for a point guard that no longer is needed or wanted. Even though Curry is defensive deficient, they have Nick Collison and Chris Wilcox there to do all the rebounding and blocking shots. This trade will make the “Sonics” a playoff contender, and can compete with the big boys in the West.
Why the Knicks should make the trade?
Easy, they get rid of Curry’s $11 million dollars off the books for 2010 (but is really $7 million because of Saer’s contract unless the Knicks decide to decline is option, which they shouldn’t). Also, they get a better PG prospect in Luke Ridnour and a project center in Saer Sene. Luke is a poor mans version of Steve Nash. He can shoot the 3 and pass the ball, just not as well as Nash and without the intangible that Nash has. Not saying Luke can’t get to that point because he has the potential to become a really good PG, especially with D’Antoni there to teach and groom Luke. Luke is a far more superior PG prospect than Chris Duhon. Saer Sene, just like Luke, is a poor mans version of Dikembe Mutombo. Saer has the potential to be as good as Dikembe, that is why the “Sonics” drafted him 10th overall in the 2006 draft, but he’ll probably end up being a Disanga Diop type of Center, which isn’t that bad.
TRADE 2:
New York Knicks
David Lee – Power Forward ($1,788,033-$2,682,049, 2 years)
Jamal Crawford – Shooting Guard/Point Guard ($8,640,000-$10,080,000, 3 years - player option 2nd year)
For
Option A
Orlando Magic
Hido Turkoglu – Small Forward ($6,864,200-$7,354,500, 2 years - player option 2nd year)
Brian Cook – Power Forward ($3,500,000-$3,500,000, 2 years - player option 2nd year)
Option B
Detroit Piston
Richard Hamilton ($10,562,500-$11,375,000, 2 years)
Option C
Golden State Warriors
Stephen Jackson ($7,140,000- 7,650,000, 2 years)
Why the Magic will accept the trade?
The Magic need three major things, a back up PG, a SG, and a PF. They get all three in this trade. Jamal can play SG for them, and then switch over to PG to give Nelson a rest. They also get a true PF in David Lee, who if you put him in the post with Howard, OMG, they will be out-rebounding teams by 10-plus easy and ease off double team pressure on Howard. Also, even though Hido is sign for 2 years, it is really 1 year because the 2nd year is a player option, and Hido will definitely opt out because he will probably look for a $10-12 million dollar a year payoff, so really the Magic need to trade him before this years upcoming trade deadline or they will get nothing for him. And let’s speak the truth; the Magic can’t get a better deal for Hido, than what the Knicks could offer.
Why the Knicks should make the trade?
Just like Curry, this will cut $10 million dollars off the 2010 cap. Also, this clears room for more playing time for Danilo Gallinari and gives him a teacher and mentor in Hido since they are both the same type of player. But most importantly, other than the $10 million dollar off for 2010, they get a much needed upgrade from Jamal to Hido, so this trade will only improve the team. The Knicks also get a nice little back-up power forward in Cook.
As for the other options, Option B is there in for some dumb reason the Magic didn’t accept the trade. Joe Dumars is looking to revamp the Pistons, but I don’t think it will be enough for Joe to trade Richard, but Joe still will have to think about this trade real hard. As for Option C, that trade will definitely happen if the Knicks offer it. It wouldn’t improve the team as much as Hido or Richard, but it will get rid of Jamal’s contract, which is the most important part.
TRADE 3:
New York Knicks
Jared Jeffries – Small Forward ($6,049,400-$6,883,400, 3 years - player option 3rd year)
Nate Robinson – Point Guard ($2,020,178-$2,911,077, 2 years)
Zach Randolph – Power Forward ($14,666,666-$17,333,333, 3 years)
Wilson Chandler – Small Forward ($1,173,480-$3,099,850, 4 years, team option 2nd and 3rd year)
2009 or 2010 1st round draft pick (which ever doesn't go to Utah)
For
Option A
Denver Nuggets
Marcus Camby – Center ($8,000,000-$7,650,000, 2 years)
Kenyon Martin – Power Forward ($14,181,818-$16,545,454, 3 years - player option 3rd year)
2010 2nd round draft pick
2012 2nd round draft pick
Option B
Sacramento Kings
Brad Miller – Center ($11,375,000-$12,250,000, 2 years)
Option C
Any team willing to take Jared Jeffries, Nate Robinson, Wilson Chandler and a 1st round draft pick for a player(s) with 2 years left in their contract
Why the Nuggets will accept the trade?
The Nuggets are in cap HELL with Kenyon Martin’s contract. They need to get rid of his contract and get younger. Clearly Kenyon doesn’t want to be in Denver, and the Nuggets will be happy if they can find someone willing to take Kenyon, with his bad contract and bad knees. That is where the Knicks come in. The Nuggets will get rid of Kenyon and his bad knees for a younger, talented PF in Zach Randolph. They also get a great PG prospect in Nate Robinson plus a New York Knick 1st round draft pick, which could be a potential lottery pick. Sure they lose Marcus Camby, but they get rid of Kenyon Martin, and they have Nene to take over at Center. Like I said before, another man’s garbage is another man’s gold.
Why the Knicks should make the trade?
They get rid of Jared Jeffries $6 million dollars for 2010. You combine that with Jamal’s and Curry’s contracts that comes out to $23 million dollars off the books for 2010. But also, this gives the Knicks a true Center in Camby for the next 2 years, which will only improve the team. It also gives a teacher and mentor for Sear Sene so when Marcus does leave, Sear is there to come in and fill his spot. Even though Kenyon has those bad knees, he did play a full season last year with the Nuggets, and he is a true PF, unlike Zebo. The Knicks should also be able to squeeze a couple of 2nd round picks from Denver.
As for the other options, if for some reason the Nuggets are dumb and decide not to accept the trade, Option B is there in Brad Miller, which should happen since the Kings have Spencer Hawes in the waiting and them drafting Jason Thompson in this year draft. They are looking to get younger and get some picks, and Jared Jeffries, Nate Robinson and a 1st round draft pick for Brad is a great deal for the Kings. And if the Kings turn that down, I’m sure there is a team out there willing to accept this trade.
OTHER TRANSACTION
– Sign Chris Duhon, and trade/release Stephon Marbury
OVERALL SUMMARY:
Donnie can make these trades happen. All these trades are very plausible and should happen if the Knicks can get their heads out of their own you know what and start paying attention. Not only do the Knicks cut $23 million dollars off the cap for 2010 (which the team salary would be around $25 million dollars or so), they also will have a team that can compete in the East for the next 2 years with the new revamp Knicks. If I can figure this out, how in the hell hasn’t Donnie figure this out yet. Maybe Isiah did have a plan after all. COME ON KNICKS!

NEW YORK KNICKS FUTURE:
It is the summer of 2010. Dwayne Wade has decided to opt out of his contract with the Miami Heat, and has signed with the New York Knicks for 5 years, $105 million dollars. The Knicks also work out a sign-and-trade deal with the Phoenix Suns. Phoenix signed Amare Stoudemire to the max 6 years, $125 million dollar contract and traded him to the New York Knicks for expiring contracts of Kenyon Martin and Renaldo Balkman, New York’s 2011 and 2013 1st round draft picks, and cash consideration. The Knicks also resigned Luke Ridnour to a 5 year, $42 million dollar contract, and Saer Sene to a 4 year, $25 million dollar contract, and extended Danilo Gallinari to a 3 year, $45 million dollar contract. Did anyone answer your question? Just saw it this a.m., but it was Chris Rock, Pookie, New Jack City, talking about that crack. Any chance Walsh is trying to get Deandre Jordan from the Clips?
HAHAHAHA!
Renaldo Balkman as the starting SHOOTING guard!

Thanks, Hardaway, I needed a good laugh after watching Darrell Rasner stink up the joint today.
Whooooeee! That's a good one!
@The Kid:
Excerpt frpm http://members.cox.net/lmcoon/salarycap.htm
"For one, teams cannot use a Traded Player exception to sign free agents; it can be used only to acquire existing contracts from other teams. For another, teams cannot combine a Traded Player exception with other exceptions (such as the Mid-Level exception or the 125% plus $100,000 margin from another trade) in order to trade for a more expensive player. For example, a team with a $1 million Traded Player exception cannot combine it with their $2 million player to trade for a $3 million player (see question number 72 for more information on combining exceptions).
Here is a more complicated example of a legal non-simultaneous trade: a team has a $4 million Traded Player exception from an earlier trade, and a $10 million player it currently wants to trade. Another team has three players making $4 million, $5 million and $7 million, and the teams want to do a three-for-one trade with these players. This is legal -- the $5 million and $7 million players together make less than the 125% plus $100,000 allowed for the $10 million player ($12,600,000), and the $4 million player exactly fits within the $4 million Traded Player exception. So the $4 million player actually completes the previous trade, leaving the two teams trading a $10 million player for a $5 million and a $7 million player. From the other team's perspective it's all just one big simultaneous trade: their $4 million, $5 million and $7 million players for the $10 million player."

How's Vegas?
Do you know if the (summer league team's) practices @ Valley High are open to the public?
I've called a few times and got different answers?
Team USA, I'm told are definitely closed door sessions (to the public).

This time last yr., most of you guys were so excited about Chandler, Balkie Boy, N8, Morris, etc. then what happened.
I recall Channing Frye did not have an impressive SL (his first one) , got pushed around, looked lost, etc... but he had a very good rook season.
Relax and enjoy the summertime.
Willis - I've been saying hold on to Zach for a bit (unless a great offer comes along) to bump his value if the team plays better, but you mentioned the other reason to do so - other teams are becoming more desperate. All the more reason to not rush into something rash. The Knicks have sucked for years, partly because of impulsive moves. I'd like to see that stop, an I think Walsh's go slow patient approach, while sometimes irritating to long-suffering and frustrated fans is probably best in the long run.
Jay.Ay. Hardaway clearly put some time and thought into his proposals, but realistically, this sort of wholesale transformation into a respectable team isn't going to happen. Walsh is going to take several seasons to try and right the ship (which is what makes the giveaways of future draft picks so maddening)
Summer league is at best an opportunity for a guy to catch someone's eye and maybe get a minimum contract out of it.
@ Pete
I'm on the same page with you on the patient approach. Player values have to be rehabilitated. Teams on the other end that have been taking the Knicks for suckers will have to sweat it out now. And a player can't be evaluated in one summer league game season, that may take an actual season or two.
So I initially read this story and all the comments and you all almost had me convince maybe we should hold Zboo and see if we cant rejuvinate his value.
Then I remembered the club threats and all the club stories we have heard about him. I think they should have taken the deal even if it really was for just a second rounder and gambled. We are gonna suck again this year but atleast our payroll would be smaller and without marbury and zboo it could be a team you would take alittle more pride in.
Just a thought
P.S The Nets look more like a team thats gonna be good now and have room in 2010, we gotta get out there and shake the hole team up like they did
I am not happy with whats been going on with the knicks i dont know what to do it goes back to the scott layden days trading camby for mcydess. I go to the basketball court and say im a knicks fan a get laughed out. This rookie and trades better payoff cause if they don't have this team in condition for 2010 and lebron resigns with cleveland it is his home town and they will have money also
Lee fits D'Ant's style perfectly and will thrive, he runs and finishes like D’Antoni loves, like Studamire. Every team in the league wants him. Are they crazy? Knick fans love him best.
The Clippers should come calling for Z-Bo soon. 2nd round pick is good enough, IMO.
Stop fighting, you are only fighting with yourselves. It’s only words on a computer screen. Everyone is always right in their own mind, accept it all or get a real life.

Ok the knicks aren't going to make to many moves before the season starts thats just the facts we're pretty tied up unless something happens with the Zach and Clipper deal( which will probably not happen) but if it does or doesn't D'antoni will be puttin on the floor the same team for the last 3 seasons and I think he will do pretty good with his system and these players. Call me crazy but I liked this roster last year but again the coaching was just terrible. I can't blame Isiah for all of it because he didn't want to coach he was forced to and it showed. Now we have a bunch of run n gun players fit for D'antoni style with Isiah's players including the Rooster ( Isiah scouted him and gave the recommendation!) Players who can run the break: Balkman, Steph, Nate, Crawford, Wilson, Gallo, Duhon thats a lot of runners n if we have Zach thats a lot of outlets to throw to off rebounds. I'm just sayin
