21 and counting...
A week before a draft in which the Knicks own just one pick -- sixth overall -- and Donnie Walsh is keeping everybody guessing.
On Thursday he had in five more players for workouts to bring the total to 21 draft candidates who have visited the MSG Training Center this month. This group did not include any bona fide lottery picks, but it did feature a very impressive 7-foot center in DeAndre Jordan. The freshman from Texas A&M seemed like a very grounded young man and someone who is aware his status as a "sleeper" only lasts so long.
“After a while they’re going to stop saying ‘potential’ and just say ‘you peaked'," Jordan said. "So you’ve got to find it inside to be tired of hearing the word potential and want to come out here and do well.”
Hofstra's Antoine Agudio, an undersized shooting guard, has a different perspective. He's more of the longshot that is trying to prove himself worthy. Agudio, who was slowed by injuries during his senior year, did not get an invite to the Pre-draft camp in Orlando and admits that stung him. But he feels his draft stock isn't high because his teams never made it to the NCAA Tournament.
UMass forward Dante Milligan is a New York kid with close ties to the Knicks and the Garden, thanks to a "Big Brother" connection with MSG Network executive Dan Shoenberg.
Milligan has a bittersweet story as told here in the Boston Globe from when UMass went to the NIT Final Four this past season.

More summer reading for you, Fixers.
This is a very interesting story in the San Antonio Express-News about the plan to make the Spurs arena, the AT&T Center, a "green" facility.
Bexar County, which owns the AT&T Center, and Spurs Sports and Entertainment, which maintains and operates the facility, will announce today that as of June 1, it became CPS Energy's top commercial buyer of wind energy under the city-owned utility's Windtricity program . . .
The AT&T Center's agreement calls for the 750,000-square-foot building to be 100 percent powered by wind for the next two years, the longest-term wind contract CPS now offers . . .
The AT&T Center's utility bill ranges from $1.2 million to $1.5 million a year, said John Sparks, the center's vice president and general manager. Managers have been looking at ways to manage costs.
“Windtricity isn't the cheapest thing to buy on the market, but if you look at what's happening with fossil fuels, it's a good choice,” Sparks said.
Without switching to wind power, the AT&T Center's electric bill could climb as much as 28 percent in the next year, based on the cost of fuels that keep CPS' power plants running, an analysis by Sparks' staff indicated.
With plans underway for a $500 million renovation of Madison Square Garden, you would expect there will be as much emphasis on energy conservation and alternatives -- not much room in downtown Manhattan for wind farms, but solar panels on the Garden roof would certainly make sense -- as there is on improved sightlines and more luxury suites.
Just bloggin'.

If you and the wifey are watching TV tonight, check out "So You Think You Can Dance?" Not only will wifey appreciate it (you might not mind watching the women dance, too, Sailor), but you might recognize one of the 18 finalists.
The name is Courtney Galiano and she's not only one of Long Island's own (Dix Hills), she's a Knicks City Dancer. (That's her on the far right).
Here's her audition for the show along with a little featurette. Just think, the girl that used to dance to "Disco Calypso" on the Garden floor and throw t-shirts at you might one day be famous.

@Knicks4life
Don't second guess your self! Yor first assessment was correct!
2010 is a pipe dream. Players like Lebron, Paul, ect.. can easily get a career ending injury! To repeat myself, by 2010, there will
be more Super Stars made by just playing in the NBA.
People who buy this 2010 hyperbole, act like "GOD said" no more Chris Paul's or Bosh's. No more KG'S.....this league is finished with Brand New Stars!
If that's the ideaology, then in 2010 ...why don't we wait for Durant or Oden in 2014??? Then it will be wait for Leroy Tuttle from Brooklyn the current 4Th grade hoop Wiz, in 2019? Then it will be
Let's wait for Alan "The Tomahawk" Hahn Jr (Who hasn't been born yet..lol Alan) in 2026....you get the picture? NYC 2 infinity
put it best, " we draft the best we can and make a go at it from there with D'Antoni at the helm! BTW...they didn't hire D'Antoni
to rot while making cap room....do any of you? I could be very wrong.. but I doubt it!
Unlikely but interesting read from Hoopsworld
about Rasheed for Zach!

@Peaceman
yeah this whole 2010 caproom theory is pure lunacy.
why would you base your whole program on the possibility that
free agents would want to come to NY
lets get creative here.
lets dangle randolph, marbury and whom ever else
and see if we can get the best players regardless of the contract
fit the pieces to the puzzle of d'antoni's system
the biggest problem of isiah's tenure
was trading for whack players
(curry,crawford,q-rich)
and bad free agent signings
(J.James,Jarred Jeffries)
if walsh has the rep he claims he should
be able to make better moves than isiah
LETS MAKES SOMETHING HAPPEN
we need players with fire and passion
CALLING RON ARTEST.....
@ NYC 2 Infintiy,
That's Blogging my man....I got your back, Bro!
LETS MAKES SOMETHING HAPPEN
we need players with fire and passion
CALLING RON ARTEST..... WORD!!!!!!!
RUSSELL WESTBROOK IS RISING IN THE MOCK DRAFTS
Cnn sports has Seattle drafting westbrook at #4
that would drop either OJ Mayo or
Jarryd Bayless to the Knicks at #6
i saw ron artest and his two kids in mahathan on tuesday he does'nt think he is living the kings so we better look elsewhere for leadership and toughtness i'll say bring on byron davis and mante elis get rid on starnotberry nate my favorite the great cose we will get more in ellis buy out james trade rose"s expiring contract and get a good big man in the draft
I say 2010 is a pipe dream too (btw good read peaceman) i am how ever all for getting underr the cap but not bc i think lebron or paul might come but just to be more fiscally reponsible. If there is a trade that makes sense and would bring in a good fit for our system but would cost us a shot of being under the cap by 2010 i say do it. Smart decisions thats all i ask for.
Whaddaya think? Is this a good deal? The Sonics want Westbrook, who’ll be there at #6. The three-way trade sends #13(Portland) and #15 (Seattle) to the Knicks. Portland gets somebody like Barbosa or Diaw and the Sonics get #6.
The Knicks try to grab DeAndre Jordan and . . . ? ? ? ?
Is that a good deal for NY?
@ J
Look at D'Antoni's record? Who has the Suns really moved besides an ill fated SHAQ?....Which is the reason why D'Antoni left the SUNS! This guy is a winner! And..if you kook at our "misfits" .....they can play ball... Zeke just couldn't coach them after the MARBURY ABORTION!!!!!!
MICKY "D"....Will make the best out of the ATHLETES we have!
It's not like he's inheriting a LAYDEN group where SHANDON ANDERSON....is your STAR!!!!!!!!!
Don't get me wrong....Zeke sucked as a Coach.....
but his moves as a GM will be determined in the future!
@ TRANE
DJ Augustine will be our point for the future!
D'Antoni has found a similar NASH!!!!!!!!

Trane- Im confused about ur trade, who gets seatle first pick??? the knicks? portland or sonics? if its ny its well worth it but i dont see the other teams doing it
Alan, you want to talk about green buildings in NYC, please tell your new boss Mr. Dolan to visit Hearst Tower at 300 West 57th street for inspiration on how to do a building right. they can use some of those same ideas to build a green arena on the east coast. The guy in the lobby named Woody knows everything they did to make it as green as possible to hopefully set a trend in New York of responsible, innovative architecture. There is also the bank of america building on sixth ave, but it's not finished as of yet. We don't have to look to any Texas buildings for inspiration, we're NYC.
Also, for the people that want to scrap the 2010 plan, I just don't think you should lose sight of the fact that D'Antoni is on the 2008 Team USA assistant coaching staff, and is generally loved by the players around the league. If they bring home the gold this summer from China, that basketball team, the players on it (D Wade, LeBron, ect) and all the coaches will be part of something special--reclaiming the gold for America. That's not something you ever forget, not in two years, not in 40 years. Smart move by walsh that indicates to me that he is thinking ahead, something we haven't seen much of in New York thus far in the 21st century when it comes to Knick basketball.
@Jay - New York gets #13 from Portland AND #15 from Seattle. Portland gets a veteran in Barbosa or Diaw (who can be had). Right now, 10 out of the 14 players on their roster are 25 or younger. They’re looking for maturity. Seattle gets the #6 pick for their #15 pick and one player.
Look – I’m no GM. But it feels like it works for everybody. (I also wonder if Walsh could just flash some of Dolan’s $$$ at Seattle and pick up the #15 pick for CASH??? Seattle has a history of going for the green over the team.) From everything I’ve seen, this is a draft where, after the first few picks, there is virtually as much potential at #13 - #15 as there is at #7 - #10. We need talent and I’d rather have two hot young prospects with #13 and #15. What if we could luck into some combination of Alexander, Jordan and Randolph? (You have two chances instead of one. Any one of them could be an all-star in a few years. Maybe none will be. Yet they all could be, as well.) There are lots of drafts when this wouldn’t be a good deal for New York. This year, it might be worth the gamble.
I just found out there is a 7-foot FRENCH center in this year's draft. Alexis Ajinca. I think we have to take him . . . for old time's sake.
And since this is my night to play GM . . . I think the Lakers should get Artest, even if it takes Odom, although they can probably get him for less. Bynum, Gasol and Artest. A work in progress, to be sure. But that COULD develop into the foundation of a franchise for years. No way Artest lets Rondo or Allen waltz down the lane for uncontested lay-ups all night. And Artest can guard either Pierce or Allen in next year's Finals.
@Trane
Trust me on this......If the Knicks don't get involved in a Major
trade......DJ Augustin willl be the floor General who leads us to the Promised Land...without a DREAM. This Kid is the Package!!!!
We shall see!!!!! SOON!
@Peaceman
westbrook is the knick's future PG
if you check out the mock drafts
several of them have the knicks
taking westbrook(check out cnn.com)
he is big enough to guard 2s and 1s
and his athleticism is sick
check out this link:
http://www.nbadraft.net/admincp/profiles/russellwestbrook.html
i think he would be a great choice if we can't get OJ or Bayless
I hear D’Antoni was impressed by Westbrook. Augustin, too. Problem is, you can’t put Augustin on the floor with Nate, unless it’s a peewee league game.
I won’t be surprised if D’Antoni goes for a PG – my guess is that he probably will. Personally, I’d rather see him gamble on one of the bigs. Alexander, Randolph, etc. But if D’Antoni loves Augustin (and I say “if” because I have no way of knowing), but if he does, it means you can put your #6 in play, trade down, and still get him. And maybe come away with a kid like DeAndre Jordan, too. Augustin AND a big could be very interesting . . .
Trane - Maybe i wasnt clear the first time about ur trade proposal i understand the knicks would get the 13th and 15th pick from portland and seatle, and portland would get Diaw or Barbosa. SO does this mean that seatle will have the 4th and 6th pick? If thats the case then i say the trade is horrible we give the 6th pick away for the 13th and 15th? I would rather stay at 6th and pick a top rated prospect like Randolph, or Mayo, or i would even take Brook Lopez at the 6th spot if he falls than give seatle the 4th and 6th pick so we can in essense pick up an extra pick. How about trading D Lee for a mid late lottery pick or just outright buy the pick from seatle or portland?
Everything right now points to Russell Westbrook being the pick at 6. If he's Rajon Rondo on D and Monta Ellis on O, that's a legit All-Star and I'll be satisfied.
But the Knicks MUST cut Stephon Marbury. You cannot have that meth addict cancer poisoning Westbrook.
The Knicks will draft Russell Westbrook.
Everybody, including myself, is feanin' for Mayo either Mayo or Bayless, but quiet is kept, Westbrook addresses more needs than the aforementioned.
Russell Westbrook = Derek Harper.
Can yall live with that?
@ Trane - haha at the french guy
@peaceman - dude, are you bipolar? sometimes you seem so logical and reasonable (especially for this board). Other times you seem absolutely insane. I don't get the anger over the 2010 plan. That's not some far off date. That's a reasonable proposition. Even if we can't get LeBron, it is a positive strategy to be under the cap, to have room to sign free agents. That is not a bad thing. If we could be under the cap before that it would be great, but we're so tied up in bad contracts thanks to the horrid Isiah era that we just can't. Even to get under by 2010 we'll have to buy out some contracts.
This is actually a plan. This is a strategy, which is better than what you propose. You push the ideology of the Isiah era. The Ideology of flying by the seat of your pants and assembling talent regardless of the cost or the fit. It seems like your counter plan is nothing more than a wish and a prayer. It's like you expect a superstar to just fall into our laps. When I said there aren't going to be any KG's out there - I was talking about trades. No one with a superstar is putting him on the trading block and if they did we wouldn't have the assets to get him. Is there a chance that we might luck out and our draft pick might turn out to be a superstar? sure, but you can't count on that as a strategy, I agree that we need to build through the draft. But that's not going to be enough. We need some one who could one day contend for an MVP nod. That's how you win in the NBA. To count on that just happening for you is ludicrous. We have no assets for a trade that's going to fundamentally alter our team. We need to build through the draft and sign free agents. Players do want to play for ny. Historic team, the ultimate basketball city, the world's largest stage, all the media outlets, endorsements. If you want money and fame, ny is the place to be. And even more so now that we have D'antoni. Now that we will actually be able to pay them in 2010, even if we can't get LeBron, we will be able to sign the players necessary to build a winning team. The only other option is to languish in the lottery for years until you get enough talented draft picks to make a real run.
So Westbrook is going to throw Joe Joe English into the first row during a crucial playoff series with the Bulls. I don't know Bronxboy if I can live with that . . .
@ Peace. I was being sarcastic. 2010 is a plan, which is better than we have had the past 8 years, but I don't think the way people are talking about implementing it, that it is the ideal plan. As for the draft, if Bayless or Mayo are gone I'm shocked everyone wants to reach on Westbrook and Augustine based on 1 workout. If you can trade down and get multiple picks this year or even a first rounder next year I say do it and take whichever one of them was not already selected ahead of the other. Not really a college b-ball fan but I watched a couple Augustine games in college and unlike Mayo and Rose I never came away saying that guy is giong to be a superstar in the NBA. The Knicks have so many glaring needs I don't think coming away from the draft with an average PG (meaning w/o the potential to be in the top 14 PGS in the NBA at any point in his career) gets us where we need to go.
One trade that the Knicks truly should explore is Josh Howard. His contract ends before the summer of 2010 (team option the following year) and the Mavs are looking to move him. Perfect for a D'Antoni attack, I would move Crawford for him (they need a shooter), I'd ask if they want to do something with Randolph, really anybody they want. They need players, and effort players - Balkman, Jeffries etc....
Get Josh Howard.
@NYC2Infinity - You say free agents want to come here, but how are we supposed to pay them if we have no cap room?
btw, the above anonymous post is me, i forgot to put my name in
I'll be happy with what they do with the 6th pick, I think. I'd be ecstatic with westbrook, augustin, randolph, alexander, or turning it into more picks. All those options have a lot of appeal to me. The players have all impressed me. I'm actually less impressed with mayo and bayless than the players I just mentioned previously. Bayless I haven't seen enough of, but he strikes me as too much of a shoot-first point and that scares me having had enough of that over the past few years. And Mayo I just think is overrated. I think he's more suited to be a 2 guard and I think he's a good player, I just think he's not as good as the hype. There is a ton of hype and he's good, but not great.
@knicks4life - It's funny that you say that. I actually was disappointed in mayo and never walked away thinking he as a superstar nba player. I see him as the ray allen of the big three. The third best player on a championship team. Some one who's really good, maybe even makes it to a few allstar games, but not anything special.
Augustin is a pure PG and that's why I'm a little gaga over him. He's got great vision and smarts and can run an offense. That's what we've been missing for so long. Westbrook is a top notch defender and has great athleticism. I am a little nervous because of his lack of playing time at the point at ucla, but I have more confidence in his ability to make decisions and lead that bayless or mayo for some reason. Everyone wants a PG so badly because not only do we not have one, but its the most important position in D'antoni's offense and most teams in general.
dammit! I forgot to put my name in again!
oh and an actual question for Alan:
We keep getting reports that the knicks or so interested in and impressed by this player or that player (right now its westbrook), but all we seem to hear directly from the knicks is that they're going to surprise everybody. All we hear about is how much they like to surprise people. So could all the "leaks" and "reports" be some misdirection work on behalf of the knicks? What are the chances that its some one we haven't even been talking about?
russell westbrook shoots 55% from tha FT line !!!!!!!!
NO THANK YOU !!! - plus his game reminds me of gilbert arenas.
get a big man in here. randolph or jordan. THAT'S IT !!!!!
i don't know why some of u cats don't see WE NEED SIZE !!!!
get off mayo's nutsack !!
Anthony Randolph is anorexic and DeAndre Jordan is the next Jerome James.
Pass.
Man, some of you need to stop going by draft sites and watch actual games. DeAndre Jordan is trash. Another dumb and lazy player with no basketball skills who is only being talked about because he's 7 feet and has athleticism. Knicks need to stop drafting players with no true skills and questionable character.
Westbrook's big fault is his free throw percentage, but he can improve that. What's more important is if he can be the floor general we need. He isn't like gilbert arenas - he actually plays defense and he knows how to pass. He's more likely to dunk than throw up a wild 3. He's more like rajon rondo.
Randolph seems like the real deal to me. Great athleticism and offense and shot blocking ability. That's what we need.
DeAndre Jordan is a very skilled player, but you have no idea what he's going to develop into. He could be great he could very well be jerome james part 2
@ Knicks4Life,
"So Westbrook is going to throw Joe Joe English into the first row during a crucial playoff series with the Bulls. I don't know Bronxboy if I can live with that . . ."
If that was supposed to be funny, I guess I'm laffin' , but if not, I really question your b-ball acumen if you think that's all he brings to the table.
Assuming we CAN'T trade down and we keep the pick, would you rather take a chance on some trash project big that might/ight not develop (see Jerome James) or get the best player available who HAPPENS to address a very glaring need?
Or do you have something against skilled, tough backcourt defenders with tons of upside????
@ Serge....
"Anthony Randolph is anorexic and DeAndre Jordan is the next Jerome James.
Pass."
LMAO.......
What do u guys think of Brook lopez if he falls out of the top 5? I mean he isnt that athletic, but he can shoot the ball from 15ft in and averages 2.1 blocks per game in college which shows he has great timing; he also is a good rebounder. He is the best big in the draft, why not take him? If we draft him we can move Curry to the Raptors for TJ Ford (contracts match) they fill a need for both teams. Lopez would give us a very good young C that plays D and can score and block shots and rebound. I am sure he isnt less athletic than a 33 year old Shaq.
I also think we should move Lee now before he becomes a free agent and we loose him for nothing. I say trade him for a Draft pick maybe in the mid teens to say GS for their 14th pick? or the suns for the 15th? With that pick i would take either PF D. Arthur or PF Mareese Sprieth (spelling?) I know i traded Lee for basically another PF but i think either Arthur or Mareese will be better than lee (im not saying Lee isnt good) becuase they both have a better jump shot (from 15ft in) and post moves than Lee. Arthur is also a good defender and can take over at the PF spot, he reminds me of a Young mcdyess ( i mean the Nuggets mcdyess) Arthur is also a very good rebounder and average shot blocker. By next year or even by the trade deadline Zach will be a better trade commodity because his contract will be smaller and Arthur will be ready to take over as our PF of the future. I believe he will be an all star if he doesnt get injured. SO in conclusion my starting lineup would look like the following:
PG Ford
SG Crawford
SF Chandler
PF Zach
C Lopez
With the regular subs being
Nate, Arthur, Q, Balkman, Morris
***With arthur groomed to take over the PF spot**
Also Maurbury should be bought out and Morris be resigned to a minimum contract. What do you guys think???
@jay. It's not bad. At the very least its reasonable which is more than you can say for most propositions on here. here are my problems: I'm not that high in TJ Ford. I know Alan likes him, and he's certainly a capable player, I just want more from pg. Especially with D'Antoni. I want some one with more upside. solid player, just not as good as i want for pg. Also, why would the raptors take curry. I know they are dying to get rid of ford, but are they really gonna exchange him for essentially the same problem, but worse? I think Lopez is good. I have my questions about him, but i like him. That seems to be the constant in this draft. From spots 3 to 20 are talented guys that go from talented with question marks to talented, but all upside. But it isn't a bad choice. Anyone you take in this draft is a gamble other than derrick rose. And if you're taking a PF with the second pick why not just take Robin Lopez? Bring the Lopez twins to ny together. Robin Lopez is underrated (altho the more people that say that the closer he gets to overrated) and can rebound and block shots. The lopez twins work great together and would bring a lot of energy and good attitude to a team that sorely needs it. It would also be huge for press. It would get the knicks some attention that isn't about Isiah, Dolan, sex scandals, or how bad they are. Robin can play backup center and backup pf. That would just be fun for everyone.
Ultimately I think your proposition is flawed, but intriguing and definitely reasonable and plausible. I'm not sold on it, but really, at this point i'm not sold on anything.
Agree with you on buying out Marbury, but what are you basing resigning Morris on? His years at Kentucky? Isiah never developed that kid, so now he's under the gun.
@ Bronxboy, I don't think Westbrook is worth the six pick. Describing him as a "skilled, tough backcourt defenders with tons of upside," is a big stretch unless you are really Hubie Brown and describe everything inlcuding swiss cheese sandwiches as having "tons of upside." I've seen Westbrook play, honestly not a lot but enough to say I'm just not that impressed with his game.
@ Neil. I'll admit your right about Mayo. After watching him play in college I wasn't that impressed and did not see him as a Paul, Lebron, Wade type. I have fallen into the hype of believing he will be a star not based on my own observations but on what the draft experts are projecting him to be. I used to say on this blog all the time after Rose and Beasley I didn't think there was a star in the draft (saw Randolph play, don't even remember him, almost like when Marvin Williams was in college). I could see Mayo's talent but there was something missing there, that I'll be honest I couldn't put my finger on what it was.
Lopez I do remember quite well. I don't think he is athletic enough to make it in the NBA. I may be wrong because I thought the same thing about Yao, but I've seen so many stiff 7-0 footers come into the league and not make it because they don't have the speed or footwork to stay with the other talented bigs. He also got rebounds but it seemed like they were effortless rebounds and not tear your arm off rebounds like Ewing used to get. I actually was really impressed with his brother who is not half the shooter or short blocker that he is but has the hustle and heart I think the Knicks need. I'm really worried that whoever takes Love or Lopez will get two big busts.
@Jay: your lineup doesn't play any defense and I don't think it makes us that much better. Lopez is also a rookie and Morris will basically be a rookie who should be in the D-League so we don't have a center if Lopez is a bust. But it shows you how many holes we have to fill on this roster which is why I say trade down AND buy a pick in the low 20's to use on Dorsey.
Ideally i would love
if the knicks could trade for a point guard
then draft a 3,4 or 5 to fill some of our other needs.
i really like joe alexander's game.
the knicks have so many holes
that is why we should trade down and pick up multiple picks
to build a better team.
@trane
if the knicks could trade the #6 for the #14 and #15 picks i think that is a good move
more bodies...we need more bodies
@ Tha Prowler
Russel Westbrook shoots 71% from the ft I dont know where u got that info from. I saw him play alot and I believe he is going to be solid but Ellis on offensive, I seriously doubt it. Monta Ellis is only a year older than him, and he is light years ahead of Westbrook offensively. He doesnt have Ellis' ballhandling skills or mid range game. I doubt u will find a better perimeter defender in this draft though.
The best available talent on the broad when the Knicks pick assuming Mayo and Bayless are gone is probably Gordon. He has the best chance at being an immediate impact player but he lacks the point guard skills the Knicks sorely need. This draft is a crap shoot there is alot of potential but there will be many bust and many so called "sleepers" who become very good players. Im high on Mayo because of his work ethic, I hear Alexander has a similar passion to be great, that is more important to me than potential.
Just thought I'd share what John Hollinger of ESPN is saying about Anthony Randolph, who some are projecting to the Knicks.
"Seen in many quarters as a high lottery pick, Randolph has virtually nothing in his statistical record to justify such a lofty selection.
In particular, his woeful ball-handling numbers are a major red flag. Randolph had more turnovers than any prospect except Beasley and Thompson, but those two players had every play run through them; I'm still waiting to find out Randolph's excuse.
Additionally, his 49.9 true shooting percentage is alarmingly bad for a guy who is supposed to dominate athletically.
He can block shots, and the fact his team was such a mess probably didn't help his numbers any, but gambling on Randolph with a high first-round pick looks like the basketball equivalent of hitting on 19 in blackjack. Hey, maybe the dealer throws out a 2 and everyone thinks you're a genius, but chances are you're going to bust.
It appears he's going to be drafted in the middle of the first round at worst, but even that appears to be a terrible mistake -- there is no track record whatsoever of a player rated this poorly achieving pro success."
Caveat emptor
* I'm overjoyed that they kept "fan favorite" Herb Williams as Assistant Coach. That made my day :D
* Aguirre is gonezo? Wow, the parasite is toast. I guess Isiah still has a lot of "say" in these matters.
* We need a PG. Can't trust or be comfortable with Marbury or Collins or N8 or Jamaal playing the point. "Need an engine" as D'Antoni stated.
Why didn't we think of this:
http://www.nydailynews.com/sports/hockey/rangers/2008/06/19/2008-06-19_nhl_wants_to_take_rangers_away_from_jame-1.html
Either that or have the Pope drop by for a quick exorcism.
Neil- The Raptors need a low post scorer to help out Bosh so the can play the inside outside game. Plus bosh does all the things curry doesnt so they would fit well together. As for the second pick i would take Arthur over Robin Lopez beuase i think Arthur has a very good possiblilty of being a star in this league or at worse a starter that contibutes as i dont see Robin being more than a poor mans david lee. I would resign Morris cause its always good to have big bodies thats young and healthy. I am high on Ford to be able to run the DA system easily i think he has the tools, i am however worried about his knack for getting injured. But, no pain no gain right? and besides if Ford comes here and fails (ie gets injured) at least his contract is shorter than Curry's contract.
Knicks4life- No one would play D??? Lopez at the 5 spot would be a good defender and clogs the middle no more uncontested layup in the paint. Ford is a slighty better than average defender and Crawford if coached right is an average defender ( remember larry browns tenure in NY) Chandler slighty above average defender zach i cant argue, but Arthur that would be groomed to take over in a year or less is also a good defender, so i think that line up is much better than the present. Im sure it would win more than 23 games and gives us something to build with in the future ie lopez and arthur and chandler
@J – you’re right. Careless mistake on my part. But that doesn’t change anything. In fact, it makes Seattle’s pick at #15 even easier to get (maybe for cash?). And I’d still rather have two picks at 13 and 15 instead of one pick at 6.
@ Mike (from the last thread)
Your right about the Knicks needing a leader.
The most successful teams have it @ PG.
Sheed may be 33 but I'll take him for Zach in a heart beat!
Combo him and Artest and you have leaders on the defensive end!
Sheed was not the reason Detroit lost to Boston. I saw Prince
as that factor.(I really am not endorsing we get sheed unless we can exchange for zach)
D'Antoni needs to get Westbrook or Augustin and take our lumps now...the way Bosh and Paul did as rookies! Crawford will provide some leadership as he may have a stellar year under Mickey D.
No matter who we put on the floor this year...we will be much better than last year...as long as we get rid of Marbury!
IMO....take Augustin if he's there ( Durant may posture for his ex-Texas PG) but give him the keys as floor general. DJ is a "Pure" PG..and being a leader comes with that position. Who's the last Pure PG the Knicks have had??? No way D'Antoni is successful
without a Pure PG. That should be our #1 priority in this years draft!
Remember this point in time? It's almost as if I made this up?
Knicks stop Big 3, Boston
Associated Press
Published: October 23, 2007
Zach Randolph scored 23 points, Nate Robinson added 20 and the New York Knicks shut out Boston's Big Three in the fourth quarter of a 94-87 home victory Monday night.
The Knicks avenged a 40-point loss in Boston and dominated the battle of the benches behind Robinson, who sparked a first-half spurt that gave New York the lead for good. And when the Celtics got close in the fourth quarter, he made a layup and 3-pointer in a span of about 40 seconds that pushed the lead back to 10 midway through the period.
Paul Pierce scored 29 points, Kevin Garnett had 17 points and 10 rebounds and Ray Allen added 12 points for the Celtics, who lost their second straight preseason game after winning their first three. None of them scored in the fourth quarter and Allen shot just 3-for-13 and Garnett fouled out.
The Celtics beat the Knicks 101-61 last Wednesday, with the New York shooting 26 percent and putting nobody in double figures. The Knicks hit 61 points this time just over three minutes into the third quarter.
David Lee had 13 points and 14 rebounds and Stephon Marbury added 15 points for the Knicks.
Tickets for the Oct. 11 exhibition home opener against Maccabi Tel Aviv weren't part of the ticket package, and most of the fans that night were here to support the Israeli team and paid little attention to Thomas or the Knicks.
Allen landed hard after a foul by Jamal Crawford, hitting his elbow on the base of the backboard stanchion. The players came together and there was some grabbing — Pierce appeared to have his hand around Crawford's chin — but no punches were thrown and there were no technicals called.
Trailing by three late in the first quarter, the Knicks got a boost from Robinson. He made a jumper and found Lee for a bucket that gave New York a 29-28 lead after one, then he had three baskets and assisted on three others as the Knicks pushed the lead to 45-30 with 7:59 remaining in the half.
Most of that run came with Garnett and Pierce on the bench. The Knicks led 55-46 at halftime.
Pierce scored 18 points in the third quarter, when the Celtics went 13-of-16 from the foul line to cut the deficit to 77-72 heading to the fourth.
I hope D'Antoni's first move is to Get Rid of Marbury....for anyone,
even a D-leaguer! The Knicks need to rid themself's of the loser
mentality!
For those who believe in Redemption,

If this guy doesn't get a 2nd round hit....maybe the knicks should invite him to Summer League? Maybe he's our next Mason???
To you "Fixers"(or should i say "un-fixers"), if some of you guys would start analyzing the draft as a sensible GM, or even a sensible fan(i know the latter is an oxymoronic suggestion) and not the type of fan made so neurotic and psychotic by the organizational dreg the Knicks have been for the past half a dozen years or so you would understand that the sensible conclusion to the Knicks situation (or dilemma as some of you Fixer's see it) is to "DRAFT THE BEST AVAILABLE PLAYER". That is what Donnie Walsh will do (not D'antonio because he will not make the pick. Why he said those things about needing an engine to J.Bayless was more for Donnie's and Marbury's ears and no one else). Any wise and sensible GM will take the best player on their board and then address their needs, and if the two coincide that's the best of both worlds, but the best player trumps everything! Like i said before the Knicks first work out told you everything you needed to know-(1): That they were and are interested in J.Alexander and R.Westbrook at #6, and (2): If they were to trade down were interested in J.Mcgee upside and C.Budinger's pure shooting touch, and (3): They are interested in S.Hill the 7 ft. shot blocking center from Arkansas as an undrafted free agent. That's it! End of story! J.Alexander will be the pick because he's a top five player-a potential all-star on both ends of the court, fills the need for a perimeter shooter and a defensive minded player, and most important of all is that his position of "sf" is not being occupied by any relevant player. That is what Donnie Walsh understands! Fixers, their are also two point guards the Knicks could sign as undrafted free agents after the draft. One who worked out for them already-the point guard from Davidson: Jason Richards(he looked good -cool, calm, and in collect mode as he was orchestrating those upsets in the NCAA Tournament),and Russell Robinson out of Kansas another heady talented point the Knicks could and should take a flyer on! Now my 08/09 Roster: C- E.Curry PF- D.Lee SF-J.Alexander G-J.Crawford PG-S.Marbury Reserves: PG/G-N.Robinson PG-J.Richards/R.Robinson G/F-Q.Richardson F-W.Chandler F-J.Jeffries F/C-Z.Randolph C-S.Hill IR: M.Collins/ M.Rose R.Balkman Jettisoned: J.James
Now that Alan’s reporting Portland is interested in Barbosa, it makes my trade even more feasible. But I’ve decided Portland was getting too much for too little. So here is the V 2.0 version:
Portland gets Barbosa. Seattle gets New York’s #6 pick.
New York gets: Seattle’s #15, Portland’s #13 . . . AND (here’s the new component) . . . OUR OWN SECOND ROUND PICK BACK that Portland got last year for Nichols.
Everybody wins. No ? ? ? We get two serious prospects at #13 and #15 PLUS our own very early 2nd pick that we gave away last year. I think it's worth the gamble . . .
Trane- Are you talking about trhe suns and not seattle? If thats the case i wouldnt mind doing that trade but i have to see who is left on the board at 6 before i trade down. Who would you wanna take at 13 and 15? J Alexander and D Arthur? i like those two.
I am a moron. Of course I meant Phoenix. Insert "Phoenix" anywhere I typed "Seattle."
But everything else stands, because Phoenix has the #15 pick and, of course, Barbosa. Sorry for the confusion.
Thanks, J . . .
Portland gets Barbosa. Phoenix gets the #6 pick. New York gets the #13 from Portland, the #15 from Phoenix . . . AND our own second round pick back from Portland that we sent them on draft day last year for Nichols. So New York would get 2 first round picks in the low/mid-teens and a HIGH second-round pick ('cause it's ours). It's a good deal for everybody . . . I think.
Trane - your welcome lol! If mayo Bayless, Rose,BEasley are off the board by thye time the 6th pick rolls around then i would make that deal in a heart beat. I think its a fair trade for everyone involved. Portland is looking for a vet, suns looking to move up and knicks looking for more players
Jeez - I've been typing "Seattle" every time, haven't I? Sorry for the confusion, guys. Obviously, my trade is Portland, New York and PHOENIX. After all, Seattle would have a hard time trading Barbosa and the #15 pick to anybody. Thanks for hanging in there with me, J . . . glad we cleared it up. (I won't even tell you the "careless mistake" I THOUGHT I found the first time you tried reason with me.) I don't know. I think it's a win-win-win, for all three clubs. All three get what they want. Those three picks for New York could be a memorable way to launch a new era of Knicks basketball. We only have to score on one or two and it changes a lot . . . in a hurry.
And if I'm LA . . . I'm crawling across broken glass to get Artest, even if they have to send Odom. Bynum, Gasol and Artest will have a much better chance against the Celtics next year . . .
@Trane
here is the trade you were talking about between phoenix and NY
"Reports out of Phoenix indicate that the Suns are trying to package Leandro Barbosa in a draft-night trade with the Knicks. There are also rumors of a trade to Portland for Martell Webster and the #13 pick.
Knicks coach Mike D'Antoni is a known admirer of LB, but the catch is the length of Barbosa's contract -- it extends beyond 2010, which is when the Knicks hope to have created salary space for elite free agents. The draft takes place on Thursday, so we won't need to wait long to see if this pans out."
NY post(Source)
You Fixers with these trades man(you can't even get the right teams and players together let alone match the salary of the players to the picks or players your trying to trade for-I believe it's around a million dollars), that's why Thursday can't come soon enough for me! Also I'm a Marbury fan so I'm a call you out as a hypocrite "peaceman"-PEACEMAN ??? You feel K.Brumbaugh is worthy of redemption but not Marbury? Until Marbury says he wants to be traded or he don't want to play for the Knicks-my team of 40 years i will support this Knick and Born New Yorker through his trials, but if he or any Knick ever say they don't want to play for my team or want to be traded(P.Ewing !!!) "I AM DONE WITH THEM)!!! Also I'll say this if Kobe had a healthy Marbury running with him they would have beaten the patheticlly disgusting boston celtics Period !!!
